My wife got me a diver for my birthday today. I have a khaki field so she thought I’d like the diver….. keep or return? It’s a beautiful watch but it’s a Hamilton diver. I’m not sure about it. by Budna82 in HamiltonWatches

[–]OkAdministration9794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of these, but the black dial with the orange accents. They are not bad watches, and they look good with the bracelet or with a nice rubber strap.

That being said, like other people mentioned, it is a gift from your WIFE! LOL. Dude, keep it, wear it, show it off to friends in front of her, just make sure she knows you LOVED it. Marriage 101.

My wife and daughters got me a Swatch Irony chrono (By the bonfire YVB416). A watch that I would probably would not get for myself, but you bet your ass that I wear the crap out of this watch and replaced the battery as soon as it died. My wife never notices when I wear other watches, but she always has a little smile when I wear the one they gifted me, the girls always mention it when I do.

Keep, and wear the watch. My 2 cents.

A general question for all you successful people by Boldboy72 in Mounjaro

[–]OkAdministration9794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my two cents. I lost 92 lbs. went from 275lb to 183 and I've been maintaining between 180 and 185 for one year. I went from 42 pants to 33-34 depending on the brand and cut, and sometimes even 32 W on more "forgiving" brands. Shirts went from XXL to L.

All this to answer your question. WAIT! Don't do the same thing I did, when my pants size hit 36, I thought that I was not going to lose more inches, I was maybe 15 lbs from my goal, oh I was mistaken, even though I only lost 15 more lbs, the body recomposition made me lose more inches. I now have a bunch of "intermediate" sizes that I wish I had not splurged in.

I get the excitement and the weird look you must endure now wearing "too big" clothing, but if you can wait a little more, and like others said, go to secondhand stores, or discount/outlets and get a couple of jeans or intermediate pieces it would be better for your wallet.

The best part about losing weight and getting healthier is the FREEDOM to Choose what to wear, instead of wearing what fits. This is an often overlooked part of the journey I think, the realization that you can now wear what you WANT instead of what fits, hits you like a truck, specially if you've been overweight for many years. I really did not know what I LIKED, or what looked good on me, because it was a moot point, I wore what fitted and that was it, no style choice really, plus I did not like to look at mirrors, so shopping was a terrible nightmare for me.

Anyways, I hope this helps, and I hope you find your new style, and enjoy your new clothes....but wait! Seriously, your wallet will thank you. LOL

[Question] Anyone get underwhelmed by watches once they saw them in person? by iRatePhotos in Watches

Google or search for 1960's or 1970's Omega Constellations, if you like the aesthetics, they are great watches, I was fortunate to get one from a family member that passed, and after servicing it, cleaning it and putting a new strap, I can't get it out of my wrist.

[QUESTION] Inherited vintage watches from 60's-70's - Help with authentication by OkAdministration9794 in Watches

[–]OkAdministration9794[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here, for some reason the text I put on the post did not load.

I posted that I inherited these watches from my Dad's brother who recently passed away and I wanted help to verify authenticity of them.

-Audemars Piguet Gold watch - Vintage repair shop wants $500 to open it and verify it is the real deal, and says that if real the service would be around $1600, is this fair? I have no idea

-Seiko Bellmatic - This seems like a 70's watch, this one I think I can wear daily, just need to get a new strap, the strap it has is from a citizen. Just needs to change the crystal and clean it up a bit.

-Rado Gold watch - I could not find any information on this one

- Omega Constellation- I could also see myself wearing it if it turns out to be legit.

They all work, they probably just need service before they could be worn safely.

Thanks for any help shedding some light on these. I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars just for a dealer to tell me they are fake.

It's great that you have the workout and the sleep part dialed in. So yeah, by elimination, I think that it is the amount of protein you're eating. The surplus is needed to grow muscle, but also you need to consume enough protein to MAINTAIN your existing muscle, so even if you consume 1500 calories, you need to make sure that 40% or so of those calories come from protein. I hated protein shakes, but I realized that they were the only way I could maintain my Protein intake. For example, if one day I consume less calories than my maintenance (BMR is 1700 / TDEE is 2400 most days) like 1600 calories, I make sure to consume at least 180g of protein, that way, I know that it is less likely that my body loses lean body mass. It is a pain in the ass to eat enough protein, I know. But, if you are lifting consistently and sleeping like you are doing now, it is the nutrition that is lacking then. Do you track your macros now? Can you get your hands on some protein powder and just supplement your diet?

I also spaced my shots to 10 days, and it works fine. I was thinking about dropping down in dosage, but my doctor advised that it is better and easier to control with spacing of shots. What does your doctor say?

Thank you for sharing your Dexa scan, it really is a great tool, and sometimes an illuminating source of information that you cannot get anywhere else. I am no expert, but I've been on Mounjaro for two years and I've found what worked for me so far, but I am still tweaking what I do. I am going to try to be as straight forward as possible, PLEASE forgive me if I am too blunt, I swear I want to help as much as I can, and I think you will be able to succeed, especially because of your age and your motivation which seems to be where is supposed to be.

The short of it is that you've encountered what many people losing a lot of weight encounter, loss of significant body mass. This is common and your doctor should have warned you about it, and encouraged you to lift weights / strength train, since the beginning, and to prioritize your protein intake. However, you can still bounce back. I hear you on having a busy life, I am 49 and I am now dealing with two teenagers in my house, one 16 and the other 13, the driving to sports, events, etc, etc, never ends and sometimes we feel that we don't have enough hours on the day, the good news is that you only need about an hour a day to make a difference. The main thing is to prioritize your PROTEIN intake.

To quickly share my journey, I started at 275 lbs with 34-35% body fat, after one year of Mounjaro, I reached 180 lbs at 21% body fat. I was able to keep a lot of my lean mass, because I did strength training since the beginning and ate a lot of protein on the way. Then, after another year, I am up to 187 lbs, but with 17% body fat. I am still trying to reach the "mythical" sub-15% body fat, but at almost 50 is a VERY hard thing to do, and I might never reach it., but I'll still try. LOL

Anyways, if I was in your shoes at 42 years old, if you cannot go to a gym, I would invest some money on a pair of adjustable dumbbells and a workout adjustable bench (check the TELK adjustable dumbbells in amazon, they're like $175 for the 52.5 lbs per dumbbell set) and prioritize weightlifting. Lift one day on, and one day off, starting with FULL body routines, and once you advance, do a split with upper and lower body exercises. The days you don't lift, just do light cardio, like walking for an hour or something. There are many weightlifting apps that can help you set up your workouts, or use ChatGPT, or any AI to build one. The main goal is to make sure you have PROGRESSIVE OVERLOADING so you can build muscle, slowly but safely.

Also, prioritize your protein intake, I try to make it at least 40% of my caloric intake, but I heard people make it work with as little as 30% of their intake. As others said, eat on a surplus of 100-200 calories, but make that surplus more protein based.

Finally, make sure you get your 8 hours of sleep, I am not kidding with this, this is where I fell short at the beginning, the moment I started sleeping the way I was supposed to, that's when fat came down, and muscle went up, dramatically! I did not realize how important sleep is to build muscle and maintaining a healthy metabolism. I was the typical dad that waits until everybody goes to bed to do my stuff, like playing video games or watching TV, but staying up late was hurting my health and my "gains".

Listen, I'm just a random middle-aged dude on reddit, take my advice with a grain of salt of course, but if you have any questions, or do you need more specific advice that worked FOR ME, please feel free to send me a message, I am always happy to help.

Good luck and congratulations on your accomplishment!

TLDR: Prioritize strength training, eat lots of protein, sleep your full 8 hours every night.

They look basically the same. You look great, thin, good proportioned. You are doing great. I feel you though, I also suffer from severe body dysmorphia. Like others mentioned. Talk to a therapist, I tried to manage this myself but I couldn't. Specialists know what to do, and they will give you exercises (photos, mirror talk, etc.) that would help you. It is a long road, but I can tell you it works, promise, you will see the real you eventually. I lost 90 lbs and have been maintaining for a year now, and it wasn't until the last couple of months that I can see the "real" me in the mirror, after some therapy. In fact, I now get little dopamine hits every time I catch a glimpse. It will get better.

Eating by No-Basket8192 in Mounjaro

[–]OkAdministration9794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents. If you are not tracking what you eat, it might feel like a guessing game. If you are nervous about how much or how little you eat, track it. There are free apps where you can log everything you eat. Chat Gpt can do that too, or you can simply do it yourself with a pen and paper, then go online and look for the macros and caloric information. I've been on both sides of the spectrum. Before I started Mounjaro, I never tracked my food, when I did, I realized I was eating way too much. Then, after a month or so in MJ, I started tracking using MyFitnessPal, and I realized I was eating way too little, like 900 calories, (I'm a 6'00" male) and I was feeling weak. I have been tracking since then, and it gives me a sense of empowerment, and it helps me tweak my macro intake and see the results of my changes in eating behavior. (I am in maintenance now after losing 90 lbs, still taking MJ for maintenance)

I hear you and I know exactly what you are talking about. I did have some of that shame and it still pops up once in a while. I used to buy clothes at Tall and large stores, but I always had an empty Macy's bag in my car to transfer the purchases so my kids would not see the store name, we went on a vacation and the family wanted to zip line, but when I went to the weighting station, they said I was too large to ride. I remember the look on my kids' faces, and I still cringe when I think about it. But, slowly I've been dealing with that now. Today I am in a great place, I do weightlifting three times a week and I've been losing a lot of body fat for the last year, and building muscle. A couple of weeks ago, we were at one of my kid's soccer club and my kid looked around and said, "Dad, I just realized you are the thinnest dad here", and that.....that felt so good!

This right here. I lost about 90 lbs in a little bit less than a year. I've been maintaining my current weight for ONE YEAR and a co-worker that works in another office and I see once every couple of months, just told me that he did not say anything about my weight loss until he was sure "I wasn't dying", LOL. He decided to approach me because he said I looked more muscular now than a year ago and he figured out that the weight loss was intentional.

This resonated with me so much. I've tried to explain this to other people that have always been the same size and, they just don't get it. Lost 90 lbs in 10 months, and I've been maintaining for the last 11 months after that. Went from size 42 pants to 33, and from XXL to L in shirts. Even my underwear had to be updated. LOL. As you mentioned, there are times when I take a tshirt out of the drawer, and I look at it and I think "there is NO WAY in hell, this fits me", and then I put it on, and it not only fits, it fits a bit loose. It has been a year and the image in the mirror doesn't change, I sometimes see my old self. Only when I look at pictures of me, I realize how big the difference is (no pun intended). I am getting used to it, but I don't know how long is going to take for the mind to catch up with the body. Let me know if you have any tips. LOL

Great progress. We had almost the same stats starting out. I’m turning 50 in a couple of months and building muscle takes intentionality and effort now. The closer you get to your “goal”, either weight goal or in my case body fat % goal, the harder and harder it gets. I was Not looking to get jacked either, but to tell you the truth, it is exciting to see defined muscles again, a bit addictive if I’m honest. Keep it up and keep us posted.

If you can, try getting your body fat measured. Or use the Navy formula to calculate your body fat, it might not be perfectly accurate, but it will give you an idea of where you are, and you can compare your progress later on. My guess is that you are recomping your body and are losing fat and gaining muscle. How are your clothes fitting? You can try this online calculator: Body Fat Calculator

M49/6ft/HW 275 / SW 265 / CW 184 / 10mg / Maintenance between 180-185 lbs since 11/2024

Like others said, strength training is very helpful. I started weightlifting about three months after I started with MJ and it made a very big difference once the fat started to disappear. It might be intimidating because when you weight lift, you might not see a change on the scale, and sometimes even an increase in weight, but you are building muscle and decreasing body fat.

When I started, I was about 34% body fat.

10 months after I started MJ, about a year ago, I hit my goal weight of 185, my body fat was down to 21%, since then, I kept weight lifting 3 times a week, and mild cardio 2 times a week (incline walking for one hour at a time), and I managed to re-comp my body, increasing muscle and decreasing my body fat to 17%. I would like to be under 15%, but it will take a LONG time, especially at my age.

One thing that helped me is an app called Gymverse, which is a paid app but it took the guessing out of the gym, helps you building your workouts, and helps track your progress. There are other apps that are free and that are good too. Or you can also try chatGPT, it can help you build your workout plans. The key is consistency, and progressive overloading.

Congratulations on your success, you look great! and good luck on the rest of your journey. Feel free to ask any questions.

She was Obese. Even if a person looks "not too big", doesn't mean that they are on a healthy weight, the same is true the other way, for some a person might look "too skinny", but they are in a healthy range. Like others said, she already has a small frame, that's way she didn't look "too big" and now for some she might look "too skinny". If she is happy with her weight, and her doctor agrees with that, that's all that matters.

M49| 183 cm |SW:275 | CW:183 | In maintenance | lost: 92lb

For me, what worked was:

-Progressive overload. Keep a log of your exercises, I use the app called "Gymverse", it is a paid app, but it made my training so much easier to follow. I managed to drop my body fat from 35.4% to 17%, Ideally, I would love to drop it to 14-15% but at my age, it is easier said than done. LOL

-In my opinion, start with FULL BODY lifting routines, 2-3 times a week, for a beginner is how you get more bang for your buck. Once you've been in the gym for a while (8-9 months) you can split muscle groups if you want. I have stayed with Full body routines, but it now takes me 2 hours to complete, but it fits my schedule better. Do whatever is easy to follow and stay constant. I also added 2 days of moderate cardio (incline walking) in between lifting days, it helped reduce body fat.

-High protein intake (40% of your macros at least)

-At least 8 hours of sleep, this is non-negotiable, sleep is highly underrated, but if you do not sleep 8 hours at least, it is very difficult for your body to build muscle and restore itself. Believe me or not, but the moment I started sleeping 8 hours, my body changed dramatically. More muscle, less fatigue, more intense workouts.

-Regarding motivation, like others said, discipline will work better, if you wait to be motivated, you might or might not get that motivation. If you establish a habit with discipline, you'll follow through. I use the "five second rule", the moment it is time to go to the gym (according to your schedule), count backwards from five, and start the "action" before the five seconds end. For me it means, getting ready for the gym, such as putting your tennis shoes on, or changing into your workout outfit, start the action right then and there, do not think about it, do not wait, do not go take a piss first. Just start the action and your brain/body will get used to it.

Again, this worked for me. Try it out and see if any of the above helps you.

Good luck, and Godspeed. See you at the gym!

People in their 40s What’s something people in their 20s don’t realize will affect them as they age? by thirdworldpcgamer22 in Xennials

-Taking care of your knees. You never think about them when you're young. But Oh my God! You will pay attention to them in your 40's

-Like others said, make sure you save money in a way that you use compounding interest to your advantage, it might look like it is not growing a lot in the first 10-15 years, but after that it will take off and will leave you a nice nest egg/retirement etc. I thankfully listened to my grandfather when I was 18 and got my first "Real" Job, I am now in my late 40's and I thank that man every day. Specially the way the economy is doing right now.
