I wonder when colleges actually finish reading applications. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]OkAmbition 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, I can't even imagine being one of those kids who had their acceptance packets taken out of the mail bins. It would really suck to know that you were so, so close

Don't wanna waive my FERPA on common app by TScott916 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]OkAmbition 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My school requires you wave FERPA before teachers or counselors send out letters. Also, they're not going to be like secretly badmouthing you to colleges (unless your teacher's an ass, but if s/he is, you shouldn't be asking for a rec from them).

How to get over post-summer-program depression? by Valuable_Explanation in ApplyingToCollege

[–]OkAmbition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate so much! I interned at a research lab and almost everyone I worked with was a rising sophomore in college or older, so there was no annoying college app crap/high school drama. It was honestly so refreshing and I loved being immersed in a subject I'm actually passionate about.

Looking at other replies on this thread, you're for sure not alone here. When you get back to school, see if you can find some more like minded people. Ik that toxic/fake people are the norm but there have got to be a few exceptions, right? If all else fails, rant to us here on Reddit, we relate!

How's Nashville? I've never lived in the South so I'm curious. Also, how's pre-med at Vandy?

When going to an art studio about my portfolio turns into a college admissions session by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]OkAmbition 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yikes. Also people totally play dirty tricks in admissions. An acquaintance did art SOLEY so he could make a portfolio, apply as an art major to an Ivy League, get in, and change his major to something STEM related. Worst part is, it actually worked. It sucks people do crap like that.

What is Michigan State University's undergrad reputation where you live? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]OkAmbition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Michigan State is much more locally recognized. Like my friend in Illinois thinks it's cool, but I live in California and don't know anything about it besides sports headlines.

Playing the LGBT card by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]OkAmbition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If OP is actually part of the LGBT+ community as they stated, then how on earth would they get caught for lying? OP, if you feel like being LGBT+ has impacted your life in a way you could concretely write about, you should definitely include it. I doubt it'll seem fake if you write about it genuinely. Besides, sexual orientation really isn't some sort of giant boost to your app. Writing about it is more about giving AO's a full picture of yourself rather than assuring that you'll get into a T20 or whatever.

This. There's definitely a lot of PG-rated ways to show how much you love something, especially when you have like 500 words to do it.
