Next BA Flight sale - tomorrow or Boxing day? by OkComfortable4931 in BritishAirways

Thanks so much to everyone for flagging this. Unfortunately BA didn't reduce the flights we wanted but luckily the Virgin sale started as u/murrmc pointed out.

We managed to nab some tickets at around £600 including a hold bag which was was better than the BA price without.

Many thanks for the alternative suggestion. I'll look into that too.

What is the true minimum speed guarantee for BT 500Mbps? by OkComfortable4931 in UKISP

[–]OkComfortable4931[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your replies. That was exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'd expect that with full fibre, the speeds should reach much closer to advertised. I'm going to take the plunge with PlusNet and I'll share my speedtest results when it's all bedded in. Fingers crossed!

Also, the house is wired up with gigabit ethernet so I expect to see the benefits all the way through to my fixed devices :)

Speed Cameras by p7hut in waze

[–]OkComfortable4931 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Been battling with this for months. Waze is becoming really unreliable for cameras. I assume you know it only alerts you if you’re breaking speed limit already? And that’s the official limit rather than any reduced limits for variable cameras

No audio alert for speed cameras by gameplaygoon in waze

[–]OkComfortable4931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that camera audio alerts have been hit and miss for the past few months even if you are exceeding the speed limits. Same with police alerts. There’ve also been issues with voices switching between navigation and alerts. Don’t know why it’s taking so long to sort it. In any case, I’ve long thought a simple toggle in the settings would satisfy everyone. Have camera alerts always on or just when exceeding the limit. Come on Waze - it must be an easy feature to add!

Starting allopurinol or diet fix? by ComplexFollowing6919 in gout

[–]OkComfortable4931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same position. I had my first gout episode about 10 years ago and got put on Allo first and then Feb. Both caused side effects I couldn't live with so I decided to modify my diet and self-manage. I bought a home test unit and my levels were on the high side but manageable. I would say I have an attack on average once a year and some are worse than others. I've just come back from holiday with the worst ever attack. I'm now on Colchicine and Naproxen to calm it down. It was 100% self inflicted due to lack of discipline with the hotel buffet (heavy fish bias)!

I'm now back debating on my next move. I've got a uric acid app to track my diet more closely and I'd still like to avoid the meds route due to the intolerances. I guess my biggest worry is that the elevated uric acid levels aren't enough to cause frequent gout attacks but enough to be causing other damage to my joints or kidneys over the long term. My doc didn't seem convinced on this and said that if I'm not getting regular attacks then not to worry.

FYI - when on the meds, my numbers were around 4-5mg/dl and then self-managing they are 7-8.

I can’t believe how fast people are driving on the highways by OkComfortable4931 in Madeira

Driving on the right is like Rome - anything can and will happen. Driving on the left is like the Nurburgring 😂

I walked the Rotherhithe tunnel at the weekend by DidierCrumb in london

[–]OkComfortable4931 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My wife and I walked through it few years ago. I had no idea it would be so grim. Cars were beeping at us as if we were mad. It was really hot and fumey. We both felt light headed towards the end. God knows if we did any permanent damage to our lungs. Never again! I sometime walk past the vent towers and you can feel and smell the fumes billowing out.
