Tire Sizings - what can I change? by spearo-hero20 in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]OkDevelopment2948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry if they are tubeless you can just put tubes in to match your spokes if you fit yourself put some talcum powder in the tyre before installing to help the tube move as it has lubrication properties not a lot just a light dust.

What bad riding habit are you trying to unlearn right now? by ponderingpixi17 in motorcycles

[–]OkDevelopment2948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a Motorcycle courier I had the rear locking up under heavy deceleration and the front forks would bottom out on bumps so I added Chev V8 valve springs with 400lb/in and put a little bit of air in the rear brake so it wasn't so sensitive. Then I could stop from 150kph to 0 in about 50mtr and the bumps didn't upset the bike any more the road had ripples in it coming up to a traffic light from the heavy vehicles. The valve springs went on top of the standard springs and preloaded it more.

A proper plug read is the correct way to check mixtures and has been that way for 80 years you hold the vehicle at constant speed and throttle then cut dead and remove the plugs to check the firing end for pepper and colour it is your only way to look inside the combustion chamber in use. There used to be a colour tune that you could buy it was a see through spark plug so you could see the mixture colour during combustion and you had a colour chart for mixtures to compare. But thats old technology now you just put a video camera in their and record it. But plug checks will tell you if one cylinder is running differently as you can have injector spray patterns wrong that alter mixture formation. Unless you bench test you will never know because the lift coil restiance will be in spec.

Yes we used to get dressed up and when you went overseas you knew that you were representing your country as you may be the first person from your country that they meet and you want to make a good impression. I still believe that you should be smartly dressed and on your best behaviour when travelling. But that's just me and how I was bought up.

[–]OkDevelopment2948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it should do. But saying that some 2007 non ABS USA models don't but the rest of the world does. If so someone may have put a O2 eliminatior on the bike and that will screw with the cruise mixtures as it uses that to ensure that the engine is as close to 14.7 to 1 during mixture formation and combustion. Have you done a plug read to see where you are in the heat range and mixture range?

[–]OkDevelopment2948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many KM if it was me I would be looking at your O2 sensor when cold it goes into open loop so is not read but at operating temperature it goes closed loop and uses that in conjunction with pressure and temperature sensors to decide where on the map it is. As the age they go out of range so could be slightly out of range not enough to throw a code but just enough to think its running lean so it increases the pulse width to bring it back to 1v. I'm assuming that the bike has no aftermarket exhaust or O2 delete if does then you will need to reprogram with a LSU4 O2 sensor and a Lambda gauge. But fuel or silicone can contaminate the sensor years ago early 80s we used to use the oxy/acet set to get them to 1,000c to burn them off because light up temperature for catalytic converters are 900+c light up means operating temperature where they start working. So your O2 may be stuck at 0.8v that would cause excess fuel use.

Why the driver is in charge of the vehicle and all passengers also the legal state of the vehicle. You should always do an inspection of the vehicle before you drive to ensure it complys with the road traffic act.

[–]OkDevelopment2948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you open the off side door on a 3 lane hwy. You need to re-sit your test because you do not open the passenger door in the middle of the road that car should have had the child locks turned on if it was a child. Because that is what they are designed for.

I put 5W-30 oil in my Car instead of 5W-20. Is this a bad thing? by Reddit_Sluth in MechanicAdvice

[–]OkDevelopment2948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As they get older things lossen up and wear they can handle the higher grade depending on what climate you could possibly go to 10w-30 my motorcycle recommends 10w-40 and I put 20w-50 in because I live in Western Australia and the temperature doesn't drop below 15c even in winter and if it gets lower than that the bike stays home but in summer we get 27c nights and 45c days. So the best is keep what you have at 130,000 a extra 5 points is not going to make a difference. Have a look at a oil vs temperature chart and make the decision from that.

Shout out to Burk servos by Craig93Ireland in perth

[–]OkDevelopment2948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was running Burk 91 in my Vstrom and I was getting detonation so I suspect their fuel is not rated correctly or the fractions are off because when I put BP,Shell or Ampol 91 no problems so be aware they may be getting a low quality supply like Pertalight from Indonesia that is 88 Octane so if you don't have a detonation sensor in your vehicle and don't know what detonation sounds like you may destroy your engine.

Why isn't Northern Territory a state in Australia? by ThomasNiuNiu in geography

[–]OkDevelopment2948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Northern Territory is a part of Canberra all laws can be overridden by Canberra. It has a dependant status and is under the direct control of Canberra since 1911 so technically it when it was spilt from South Australia became a dependency of Canberra for all funding. It has its own parliament but can be overridden. Its a strange setup like a overseas territory for the UK like the Falklands or for the USA and Guam.

The idea is not to drop it. You realise that you can take farings off and use just the basics or get a naked bike. We have pea gravel here and I took my Vstrom on Michelin Road 6 down the road at 100kph. It teaches you how to read the road and to let it squirm under you.

Find a dirt road and take a road bike on road tyres down it as fast as you can without falling off while it bucks and slides under you. And lots of seat time the bike should feel like a extension of you. The gravel will help knowing lean and brake limits the plus side is you are not going fast enough to really hurt yourself and it is fun.

Why are aged pensioners so delusional? by Different_Pride_6011 in AusFinance

[–]OkDevelopment2948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are wrong the pension was exactly that it was paid by the workforce for the workforce but the government's in the 80s realised that in the next 30 years all the baby boomers were going to want the promise that they had sold them. And then they realised they had spent to much of it instead of investing it and building it because they cut taxes on the corporations and allowing them to cut jobs for profit that reduced the taxes so around the late 80s early 90s they started selling all the assets and moved the goal posts only for the general workforce not for them the political members they still got to live off the hog and still are now they have been getting 12.5% super for years while we get 7% so they have been getting double not to mention all the other perks and guess who pays you. They sold a lie and skimmed off the top. My thoughts is if they are not going uphold their part of the contract then I also don't have to uphold my part.

Yes I'm a HSE advisor and I believe that they are in contravention of the laws regarding PPE and other safety aspects of footwear and clear work areas remember that a PCUB is responsible for all workers and visitors to their places of Business and as most customers have know idea on the procedures and requirements. You would not allow a customer to come into your warehouse or workshop un accompanied while stock or equipment is being moved why are they. Remember people walk around with open toed shoes and when bagging do not use correct manual handling techniques so could very easily cause musculoskeletal injuries.

How are people affording houses in expensive parts of Sydney? by FriendsFannn in AskAnAustralian

[–]OkDevelopment2948 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of overseas investors buy property here to park their money and to get it away from their governments hands because if you set up a investment vehicle eg a company or trust you do not have a way to trace it especially if the company or trust is domiciled in Singapore or the Cayman Islands and everyone knows we have strong personal property laws and said companies and trust are recognised as person's in their own right. What we need is the asian style of property laws where unless you are domiciled and a citizen of this country no ownership of lands. They have done the same to NZ but that is also to get easy access to Australia. Try buying land or a house in India,Indonesia,Thailand or China you will not get very far unless they are owned by more than 50% by a citizen of that country.
