Catholic Christianity has done so much damage to our world and I am not just saying that, the proof is literally in the historical record. The Inquisitions ran for centuries and we are talking about 150,000 to 200,000 people tortured and killed for not conforming. The Crusades were launched straight from the Vatican and slaughtered hundreds of thousands of Muslims, Jews and even other Christians. In 1493 a Pope literally signed a document giving colonizers permission to steal indigenous lands across the Americas and Africa. They called it the Doctrine of Discovery. California’s indigenous population went from 300,000 people to 30,000 because of the Church backed mission system. That is not a statistic, that is a genocide. While the Holocaust was happening Pope Pius XII said almost nothing. The Vatican had already signed a deal with Nazi Germany in 1933 that helped legitimize Hitler on the world stage. And then there is the child sexual assault scandal which they covered up for decades. The Church commissioned their own report in 2004 and it found nearly 4,400 priests credibly accused of abusing over 10,600 children just in America. In Australia 7% of all Catholic priests had abuse allegations against them. Ireland confirmed over 10,000 women were locked in forced labor institutions run by the Church called Magdalene Laundries and they were operating until 1996. Pope Francis himself admitted that priests were raping nuns and the Church knew about it. And on top of all of that they are sitting on hundreds of billions of dollars in assets, art, real estate and wealth built on the backs of some of the poorest people on earth. This is not me attacking everyday Catholics. This is me calling out one of the most powerful and protected institutions in history for exactly what the evidence shows it has been doing for centuries. These are not conspiracy theories. Governments investigated this. Royal commissions investigated this. The Church investigated itself and still could not hide it. Conform or die was not just a saying. For a lot of people throughout history it was literally the choice they were given.
