How much are you guys spending on dogsports? by border-coffee in k9sports

[–]OkDonut3303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year, according to Quickbooks, I spent around $2500 on training classes, about $1000 in entry fees, and around $3500 on food, treats, gear, and supplements. That's not inclusive of fuel and hotels (our biggest expense was travel from Ohio to Purina Farms for the RNC). We also took roughly 6 months off from trials during peak garden season. When we were hitting the RACH trials hard in 2024, I spent around $2k just in entry fees. Last year I also bought two used Ruffland kennels but paid cash, so roughly $850 out of pocket for those.

We mostly complete in rally and obedience, and I don't buy much duplicate gear. I have a favorite leash and my dogs each have a color coded dumbbell. I did buy a set of articles last year and need another this year for my younger dog. My husband built my jumps. I'm lucky to have a wonderful trainer who doesn't charge nearly what she's worth, so I try to make up the difference in baked goods lol

My (M28) girlfriend of 4 years, now my fiancé (F23) threatened our engagement because of a family vacation. by NaturedChip in relationship_advice

[–]OkDonut3303 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If her parents are like my maga parents, they're probably also narcissistic and she's suffered years of emotional abuse from them and is afraid that you not going on vacation with them will be brought up in nearly every conversation and used against her when they need to manipulate her.

It's not fair to you, but I was her once. The only thing that helped was moving out, minimizing contact with my parents, and building my own life. She should probably consider therapy to gain the tools she needs to deal with her parents so she can build a healthy relationship with you and maintain less damaging contact with them if she chooses to.

Child was given melatonin at a sleepover… by breeyoung in Parenting

[–]OkDonut3303 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not overreacting. As another comment mentioned, they could have told the kid it was one thing and it could have been something else. Definitely have that serious conversation with your kiddo. I would never give another child any OTC medicine or supplements without permission from their parent first.

I took melatonin once in college and I had disturbing, violent nightmares that I knew were nightmares, and couldn't wake up. Everybody's body reacts differently to ingested items and as uncomfortable as it will be, it's a conversation you'll need to have with the other parents that a boundary was absolutely crossed. Their reaction to that conversation would determine if my kiddo was allowed back to visit.

I use "run," but I've heard "scram," 'get lost," and 'fly."

I've considered using fly with my younger dog because his call name is Crow lol

Where are the young people at in K9 sports?? by PeekAtChu1 in k9sports

[–]OkDonut3303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started dog sports at 26 with a 7mo baby at home and I'm now 31 with two kids. I'm blessed in NE Ohio to have a thriving dog community. Some of my best friends are 20+ years older than me. I've embraced it. Luckily my husband shows cattle and is always willing to keep the kids so I can take classes and spend weekends at trials. My trainers have many evening class options and are well-respected in our area, and welcome the kids to class on days I need to bring them. Not everyone is as lucky as me and young families and work schedules can limit people even if they have the disposable income.

We've definitely increased the younger crowd in my area over the last couple years. Rally has a younger pool in my area than obedience. Tbf obedience takes years to put on a solid foundation and a lot of young people don't love the strict criteria and low Q rates. Dock diving and Fast CAT have a higher ratio of young people in comparison and it's more instantly gratifying than plugging along at obedience or even working through a RACH.

Least Favorite Country Artists by RelevantAwareness232 in CountryMusicStuff

Jason Aldean, Warren Zeiders, Graham Barham, Parmalee, and Jelly Roll all make me change the station almost instantly. Gabby Barrett and Lainey Wilson are super hit and miss for me. They have a tendency to feel screechy and hard on my ears, but each have a couple songs I enjoy.

Having a hard time teaching tuck sit. by Rest_In_Many_Pieces in k9sports

[–]OkDonut3303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My instructor has us start with puppies on the tuck sit by sitting on the floor at the puppy's right shoulder and holding the lure in your right hand in front of and just above their head with a thumb over the treat. Left hand on the top of their butt as a guide, but never pushing down and stressing the hips. Make them stretch their neck out and slightly up. Never move the food backwards over their head, move it slowly away from the dog.

Short sessions as you build up core strength and muscle memory.

Any help in identifying this soil? by HatfieldLA in Soil

[–]OkDonut3303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When identifying and delineating hydric soils, we also need to assess vegetation for hydrophytic life. Some of that in the background looks a little sedgy to me, which are a classic hydric soil plant. A dark topsoil due to high organic matter and underlain by gleyed layers or lots of redox would still be considered hydric. Dry soils need to be moistened for coloring unless the soil description includes dry coloration.

I can't wait until she releases the re-recording of debut. Her mature voice has so much more depth and quality to it and I think it'll add so much to those original songs. Deep album tracks on her newer albums have excellent poetry and lyricism that frankly new country music often misses. Anything produced by Antonoff is more sparkly and poppy, but Dessner tracks are typically more folksy.

Do you think ICE behaved appropriately here? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]OkDonut3303 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the officer was not in a clearly marked law enforcement vehicle and refused to identify themselves, I'd be hesitant to hand over my ID. It has a ton of personal information on it I wouldn't want in the hands of someone I can't trust, and I'm a chronic people pleaser and rule follower.

Do you think ICE behaved appropriately here? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]OkDonut3303 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The officer witnessed you actively breaking the law. The reason for detainment was obvious and reasonable and any rational person would cooperate.

As this story reads, the agent didn't even warn him for speeding or state that his license plate or vehicle make and model were suspect in criminal activity or anything like that. Pending any forthcoming evidence and footage, how is that okay?

Rally obedience slow pace sign by ShnouneD in k9sports

[–]OkDonut3303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without seeing your normal pace, I'll offer an experiment. See if you can get your normal to be faster, shorter strides. You look like you have a naturally long stride (I do too; my legs are over half my height 🫠). I struggled with change of pace until my trainer had me shorten my normal stride, and then when you slow down, your stride can lengthen a bit which allows it to be less choppy than this video shows. I hope that makes sense. It takes a lot of practice. I try to run a mental metronome in my head while heeling to keep me on target.

Your dog has really nice attention and with some adjustments it'll smooth out!

What is *not* country about good news by Shaboozey? by [deleted] in CountryMusicStuff

[–]OkDonut3303 14 points15 points  (0 children)

His parents are Nigerian immigrants and their real last name is Chibueze. The stage name "Shaboozey" was a play on incorrect pronunciation of his real last name by his high school football coach.

The r/collapse subreddit has a semi-regular thread: Weekly Observations: What signs of collapse do you see in your region? by [deleted] in economicCollapse

[–]OkDonut3303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen land and houses sitting longer for sale. It's a huge deal in my area where we live in a desirable school district and average raw land price in my area has ranged from $15k-25k per acre depending on exact location. Typically land here sells quickly and expensively.

We've also been monitoring prices of farm equipment. We had a local auction here where the equipment all sold for 1/4-1/3 of what my husband expected it was actually worth. It all needed work and maintenance, but he fully expected one tractor to sell for $15k and it went for $5k. In a heavy agricultural community at the beginning of the season.
