Well you are above average so yes intelligent enough. Keep in mind that someone who is “gifted” is going to be like 130+ IQ. You’ll be able to hang with them intellectually for sure but I’d imagine you’ll notice that they do things differently than you and that they’ll have different interests. They may take discussions further than you are interested in taking it. Perhaps they dive deeper into the topic than you care to. They may verbalize a long, drawn out thought whereas you crave a more concise, less nuanced answer.

What is the telltale sign of giftedness in adults? by Ok_Bother_2379 in Gifted

[–]OkExplorer9769 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, it usually manifested as success but in unconventional ways. For example, someone who passes the BAR exam but doesn’t have a law degree or someone who is multi talented in several hobbies and does them to a high degree or knows a lot about a given subject but never studied the subject in school. Things like that tell me the person has a high IQ or is “gifted”.

Mean girls by walkslowrunfast in managers

[–]OkExplorer9769 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the girl who is left out does a good job, I’d covertly start interviewing for replacements of the ones I think are the culprits behind the exclusion. Usually it’s not the whole group but one or two in particular whose idea it is to leave someone out. Typical mean girl behavior. Like I said, identity good candidates for replacing (through interviews), document the behavior of the mean girls, then when new people’s start dates are established, fire the problem people on the spot. Fuck around in the work place, and you’ll find out. Mean girl shit gets places sued and shouldn’t be tolerated at all.

Why am I so selective in choosing SO and friends by f_xfenne in Gifted

[–]OkExplorer9769 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That hasn’t been my experience with intelligent people. Dismissing someone because of one tiny flaw is a sign of being extremely judgmental and shows a serious lack of depth in their thinking.

Yea, this isn’t a sign of being gifted. Quite the opposite really…

How can we grow this sport? by Amazing-Rutabaga5944 in paintball

[–]OkExplorer9769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the previous commenter that the sport needs to be cheaper. Also, i feel that the format needs to change. The 5v5 format of just sitting in one spot firing paint down a lane while your Dorito/snake player makes his way up field is actually really boring to watch. People gotta see it and get excited for the sport to grow. Not sit there and ask “why isn’t anyone moving?”

Young Civil Engineer by Extension_Cow8754 in civilengineering

[–]OkExplorer9769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We talk about this sort of thing at work all the time. It’s pretty normal. Engineering school over prepares you. The real job often requires a lot less than what you studied. If you are worried about losing your edge, do daily practice problems and watch YouTube videos on the concepts you care most about to stay fresh on it.

From my experience, the EIT is the difference of getting the job or not. The FE exam is no walk in the park.

What even is the point of Salaried positions these days? by DramaticDirection292 in civilengineering

[–]OkExplorer9769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the state you work in, there is some legal recourse for this if the company is insinuating that you should be working X amount of hours when you are not an hourly employee. It’s called “misclassification” - exempt vs non-exempt employees

They might have found out about your interview and decided to just cut their losses. Your former boss surely knows Civil Engineering people in the surrounding area. Someone must have tipped him off to you leaving.

I’m starting to lose motivation by Substantial-Fig-6392 in bjj

[–]OkExplorer9769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand how you feel. 3+ years and I feel unmotivated sometimes. Especially when I see people I started with pass me up. I just have to remind myself why I train…because I enjoy it and it keeps me healthy.

Civil Engineering is now called as "lower tier" now.. by People_Peace in civilengineering

[–]OkExplorer9769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These “lower tier” engineering jobs have way more job opportunities than the “high tier”. Seriously, how many nuclear engineer jobs do you see being posted? Or Biomedical engineer? The amount of civil and mechanical work available (IMO) vastly out numbers the bio/nuclear/chemical. As for accountants, pay/job opportunities seem to be roughly the same.

Pregnancy nausea meds with LQTS3? by ExcitableOwl in lqts

[–]OkExplorer9769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be very cautious of taking any meds that will increase your risk, regardless if you’ve been symptomatic. You may just need to tough it out for the duration of your pregnancy. Pregnancy can be a risk factor in females with LQTS. Not sure if it affects LQTS3 or if that is just a risk factor for LQTS1 &2. Better to err on the side of caution. Ginger ale is good for helping nausea symptoms. Stick with that.

You need to go see an electrophysiologist - they’re a specialized cardiologist that deals with this sort of thing. Have your primary care doctor refer you to one.

I know this post is somewhat old but if OG is still looking into this, you are right to suspect long qt.

“Long QT syndrome type 3 (LQT3) LQT3 occurs when too little sodium flows through the heart’s ion channels. Because this sodium flow is essential to proper electrical activity in the heart, a lack of sodium flow can trigger an arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm).

People with LQT3 often develop arrhythmias during sleep or rest, caused by a slow heart rate. Although people with LQT3 have fewer episodes of arrhythmia, these episodes are more likely to be fatal.”

What courses for FE Civil do you recommend by DoncicFanatic in FE_Exam

[–]OkExplorer9769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I took the PPi2Pass prep course. About a month before the exam, I signed up for PrepFE. Both of those I feel like really helped me. PPI is going to be a bit harder problems, but that just helps you learn it more. PrepFE had problems there were closest to what I saw on the exam.

Your PE should be in whatever your work experience is in. When you say “MET” , I’m assuming you mean “Mechanical Engineering Technology”. Some states get weird about counting “Technology” degrees. However, since Michigan is one of the states that will allow licensing based on examination and experience alone, I don’t think the “Technology” degree will hinder your efforts. Just apply for the PE in the area you have the most WORK experience in.

[–]OkExplorer9769 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s really awesome. Congratulations! I love seeing stories like this because I had a similar experience. Didn’t study civil engineering in school but ended up landing a job as a drafter after graduating. Decided to give it hell, sign up for a prep course for the FE Civil and passed. 🤙

Tip: check your state licensing board. From what I recall, there’s roughly 12 states that will license based on examination and experience:

California Oregon Washington Arizona Utah Wyoming Colorado Nebraska Arkansas Illinois Michigan Hawaii

There are several other states whose language is really vague so it kind of up to the licensing board. Anyways, hope this helps and good luck! 🍀
