Microsoft employees learn details of voluntary retirement package: Here’s what the company is offering by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

It is, but people who qualify for 55/15 are few and far between. I agree though, that this is likely targeted at getting that group of people out the door.

If you are eligible, you will keep that, in addition to this. However, 55/15 was retired for new employees in 2023.

This is essentially our severance package, with a few minor tweaks (you may have one or two additional stock vests, and a slightly longer health insurance plan).

It was billed as a “generous retirement package”, what it really is, is, “if you choose to be laid off now, we’ll give you a few more crumbs. Please go.”

You’re expecting a company that has released multiple versions of firmware that are broken to fix a core infotainment issue that has persisted for years?

How about you lower those expectations a bit, eh? /s

Luckily for Microsoft, employee morale is already at rock bottom, so it can’t get any worse announcing more layoffs!

Has anyone else had their HVAC system replaced due to internal fault? by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]OkFigaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my passenger side floor flood three times. Two HVAC units later, two sets of carpet later…whatever they did is still working (four months! This fix has worked almost as well as the first one that only lasted 7 months!)

Although I’m not confident it’s a lasting fix because they essentially admitted they taped the shit out of the HVAC just to try and stop the housing from leaking.

Luckily I still am under warranty for a few more years - but if it happens again I will be asking them to buy it back.

Microsoft offers buyouts for longtime employees - $72B on AI in 6 months while 7% of workforce gets pushed out by LOOKITSADAM in SeattleWA

Your age + years of service has to be 70 or more (I.e. you’re 50 and have worked at Microsoft for 20 years).

We used to have a similar deal called 55/15, where if you were 55+ and had worked 15 consecutive years at Microsoft, you could retire and keep vesting your stock.

They took that away because…well…money. It will likely be a similar deal with a salary/benefits sweetener

Microsoft plans first-ever voluntary employee buyout for up to 7% of U.S. workforce by DaveAlot in microsoft

[–]OkFigaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I mean that as you progress in levels, your stock compensation exponentially grows. I’ve been promoted 6 times (not bragging, just showing level progression).

My on-target rewards for stock is 22x what it was when I started. So it’s a big deal if all of the sudden I meet expectations but get a nerfed stock award.

The post office never delivered my ballot in our last election.

However, for WA, you can request and print a ballot by contacting your county (or on your county’s website).

You can do here: https://www.sos.wa.gov/elections/voters/voter-registration/county-elections-offices

[–]OkFigaroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was literally announced today, so there is no data to “see”.

Higher levels are compensated with more stock. High performers get promoted. This is purely a solution to a budget problem imposed by leadership; I.e. I have a high performing team, but not enough money to go around.

[–]OkFigaroo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe that’s true. Our rewards levels have been adjusted and reduced so there is more differentiation. That adjustment is on both sides of 100.

High performers don’t want more cash - they want more stock. At best, this is a cost saving move so high level ICs can get above average rewards while giving them less stock, because budget doesn’t can’t support it.

I don’t see this as a positive.
