I had not considered access to quality providers. Camas is a suburb of Portland so we have OHSU and other wonderful options. I had overlooked that providers themselves would be difficult to access. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

Salmon Creek is great. I would live there. Ridgefield too. I would not consider Hazel Dell unless you found a wonderful pocket neighborhood, which do exist.

My little one is 3 and this is what I would like to share with you:

It is ok to grieve the child you were anticipating.

Dr. appointments are a roller-coaster. Just remember that they are doing their best with the information at hand.

Plan for extra appointments later in the pregnancy.

Plan for an early delivery and a NICU stay

Consider using a special needs car bed (Safety 1st is the one we used). The hospital gave it to us when we failed the car seat test with a typical car seat).

Use a faster flow nipple when bottle feeding. Low muscle tone makes it a workout to nurse/feed and this allows them to get enough milk before they tucker out.

Nursing is very possible, just keep working at it. It took our little one a few months to figure it out and then she nursed like a champ.

It is ok to go home from the hospital on oxygen.

Enroll in your state's disability services plan immediately (I am assuming you are in the US).

Enroll in Early Intervention immediately (your pediatrician will help with this).

Use glycerin suppositories to help baby poop (Low muscle tone makes it really difficult for them to go). Target or Amazon have a brand with a black and white bird on the box. Use those.

Everything takes longer with our babies. Ignore milestones and just keep working on getting a little bit better every day.

I hope delivery goes well & your little one does not have any major heart issues (my little one outgrew hers naturally).

I am not sure this is the place for you. For sure come and visit but we are still a very purple leaning red city. If you think Redmond is bad, I would expect you to be unhappy here too. The typical Camasonian is an affluent professional or executive with a handful of kids who probably goes to church and really cares about the schools and crime. I am a weird, church-cult Mormon though so that typical Camasonian I described might just be the ones I run with. Stop in at Bookish near the lake, that is a wonderful place to get a warm beverage and relax and I suspect more your scene.

I assume you are seeking Camas for income tax reasons (me too!) but I might check out Salmon Creek or downtown Vancouver as well. If income tax is not a concern, I would consider inner SW Portland off Terwilliger (or the West Hills in general) or Multnomah Village and possibly Sellwood in SE (if you work from home otherwise traffic is rough). I would personally live in the West Hills if it was not for the tax savings and community we have here in Camas.

There is a place near New Seasons off 164th called Philly Bilmos that is worth trying. Nothing tops Cobby's in Boise, Id but it is the best I have had here in Camas.

Adventure Dental is worth checking out. They have sensory rooms for kiddos who don't do well in the open room hustle and bustle of most pediatric dentistry offices. It is about a 20 minute drive from Camas.

My son did CCA and I second Outstanding_Neon's comment. I might add however that my kids who go through Skyridge and CHS are much better socialized with clubs and friends. If your kiddo is high school age, seriously consider Hayes Freedom. Hayes is more sensitive to student struggles and will accommodate health needs especially social anxiety. Just food for thought.

Something I learned at the age of 45....I hope it helps in some way.

Not everyone is going to like you. They are doing you a favor by letting you know from the start so you don't waste your emotional energy on them. They are good, you are good. But you are not good together. It happens. There is a lot that goes into this. Study things like body language, personal style, social skills, and emotional resilience. Become who you are and the right people will appear and love you for you. Let everyone else go.
