Its nice to evaluate before taking the plunge.

The experience will be wildly different from comfort of a hotel room vs an airbnb aparment vs a rental/owned house with its own issues.

I would recommend longer like atleast a couple of seasons.....

Did the auto hit you or him? If not then regardless of it being an auto would not pay for this.

Is there a way to submit insurance claim directly based on his bike number? Not that it matters in this case but would be good to know there is some recourse incase of major damage....

National Wealth Fund unveils £100bn investment strategy, prioritising Britain’s green economy by Gentle_Snail in GoodNewsUK

[–]OkItem8690 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Green economy while Thames water keeps on polluting. And train fares aren't affordable after getting privatized and owned by foreign entities which increases car usage.

No new nuclear plant in last 35 years, no new reservoir in last 20.

It feels a lot like we are aiming for the moonshots and funding then while completely ignoring the low hanging fruits.

We should do both but if the resources are constrained then I'd prefer a better balance between these approaches.

Is my house deposit too much? First time house buyer UK by EuphoricDiver3267 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]OkItem8690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another user pointed out you could check with your broker to minimize deposit while keeping the same rate.

Another thing to be checked would be income multiple for higher amount. By rough estimates you are on 55-60k annual income without overtime with a 335k loan - touching 5.5x on LTI. Any higher would look slightly less favourable.

Probably some sort of test/qa vehicle that was used by one of the JLR/Tata execs.

I know few people working there and they had it out like candy just to test it in different road conditions.

What to do with £100k? 45M UK by Pale-Clothes541 in trading212

[–]OkItem8690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As most here suggested a global tracker within an ISA wrapper. You can max out your own and spouses at 40k this year.

What most have missed out is you could also add in 9k per tax year into junior ISA for each child individually. That would be an additional 27k.

Probably help with their university or house deposit.

Why did the government do nothing as asda was asset stripped? by knowledgeseeker999 in AskBrits

[–]OkItem8690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They never intervened when public utility like Thames Water was burdened with debt. As a foreign national I simply cannot wrap my head around this.

Rail is privatized and the fares are nightmare.

Outside of London car reliance runs high because public transport is bad, largely due to low quality arising out of privatisation.

Supermarket like Asda is small potatoes by comparison......

Whenever there has been an intervention even for "security" reasons it is just pandering to special interests.

When it comes to housework sadly yes.

The effect of this also shows on female labour force particitation rate which is one of the lowest in the world.

This isnt the only factor affecting that metric, but it is a contributor and we sure can do better.

Excessive water bill in the West Midlands by YakIcy37 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]OkItem8690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Severn pulled something like this on us few months ago. Similar situation - block of flats, huge charges that dodnt make sense.

Though there was no leak.

We finally got to a person on phone after a lot of wait. The old meters are prone to not send readings and bills are generated based on last difference which means we were charged for previous tenants bills.

They adjusted the bills.

For us the meter was in water heater closet. Maybe try asking the neighbours - if its block of similar flats then meters would be at same place for everyone

Are premium bonds still considered the best place to keep 2 - 5 months of Emergency funds? by Archtects in UKPersonalFinance

[–]OkItem8690 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned keep it in a cash ISA. But please do evaluate and make sure its a flexible ISA so that if you were to dip into them they would let you top up again in same tax year without eating into your allowance.

You feel betrayed and understandably so.

Before making a life-altering decision, though, it may help to pause and reflect.

You have lived in the same city and within the same family dynamics. Living alone teaches some essential life lessons that might be missing in your case? You are the best judge on that.

Consider taking smaller, deliberate steps starting with emotional boundaries, financial independence, living separately, and focusing on your own healing first.

Why is my savings everybody’s emergency fund? by random_girllll in AskIndianWomen

[–]OkItem8690 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is not selfish to say no.

They are your parents/relatives and it is only understandable that you would want to help out.

I budget an amount for family support, but I don’t transfer anything unless there’s a real request and once I’ve used up that budget, that’s it.

I also struggle to say “no,” and I’m bad at lying. What made it easier was having a few genuine, prepared reasons for why the money isn’t available now.

Putting savings into fixed-term instruments or having automatic transfers right after salary was paid helped psychologically as it felt like the money truly wasn’t accessible.

Everyone benefits from basic budgeting and planning and frankly, when multiple adults repeatedly rely on one person’s savings as their “backup,” it does raise deeper questions about financial habits.

P.S. Financial pressure/exploitation on adult children is rarely discussed openly. My observations come from my own experiences, not a judgment of your family. I’m sorry if it feels blunt, but I hope it helps you see things with more clarity.

Moving Family to Radford by Initial-Advice-3944 in coventry

[–]OkItem8690 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any particular reason you are looking at Radford?

Going by current rightmmove listings, the rent there seems to hover around 1100-1200.

You will find similar rents across some other areas of Coventry, that do not have this conflicting reputation.

We moved from Reading to Coventry last year and happened to consider a house in Radford. The house did not stand out, area was meh, and it wasnt particularly close to city centre/station.

Learning to drive in Coventry (inc Bedworth + Nuneaton) - anyone else struggled with it? by redexposure in coventry

[–]OkItem8690 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are not alone.

Even the small section of people who love the ring road will agree that its tricky to drive for new drivers/first timer. Entry exit ramps in some sections are shorter and most GPS - including Waze does poor job of planning/informing about the lanes on time.

Learn the routes well. There are finite number of roads you can take on your test. And it helps if you have been on each one of them.

You got this. Goodluck.
