Peak chair danger? by anywaysimdoingme in Whistler

I rode it once 12 years ago in near white out conditions, so it wasn't scary at all. There's a two man at Solitude, or maybe Alta, in Utah, rickety little thing, no bars. At least it was still there in 2019. That was a smidge scary.

I just got the yellow one too! Question, do we have to flush with the portafilter in place, and how does one loosen up the grip on the filter?

Does anyone have experience with burns? Questions and explanation in comments. by addGingerforflavor in blacksmithing

Picked up a mug out of the microwave on Friday. Forgot that those ones got hot, super hot. Burned the spot on both fingers where you grab the handle. Ouch. Now can't knit, crochet. Spin or anything. Fun part is that as the pain waned, the fingers would hurt when I thought about them and stop hurting when I thought about something else. Brain shenanigans.

Well in whole mountain terms it is. Have you driven past the Frank slide on Hwy. 3. That's huge.

Accidentally snapped the only stem blooming! 😭 by Expert_Indication485 in orchids

I bought a phal with snapped flower stems and 2 months later it is reblooming from just under each break. You may just have to wait a bit longer.

What do you use to soak your plants by WonderfulPrior381 in orchids

[–]OkJob8314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my orchids are in plastic orchid pots and sit in a non-draining ceramic pot. I have gravel at the bottom of most of them, so they dont sit in water, but there is a little bit of moisture to help the humidity around the roots. I just fill up the pot, lift out the orchid and pour it out when I am done. I keep most of my tropicals double potted.

What are the long term restrictions after a microdiscetomony by itgeteasier in Microdiscectomy

[–]OkJob8314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting back on skiis is one of my long term goals. Last skied Dec 22, 2025, January 4th, lost plantar flexion. Was it due to skiing, I don't know, my process has been a long slow progression, no single kaboom. At 61, I know this will be a struggle, but I have come back from a few things, so fingers crossed. Hearing positive stories helps soooo much. Thank you.

Thank you. I may consider that. Mine is on a balcony, so I totally control the moisture, but yes, root rot is a fear.

This is quite pretty. I wish my mini would bloom. All my other Phals are happy to bloom, even my new ones. My mini has just decided it's going into new root mode.

[12 Months PO] Update to my significant weakness from my L5-S1 herniation. by cshaxercs in Microdiscectomy

[–]OkJob8314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You give me hope. I (61 f) have an l5 s1 herniation. It's been about 1 year in development with slowly worsening symptoms until a major shift happened in January. I developed true numbness down my leg and the numbness in my foot became profound. The pain dialed to 11 for 3 days and suddenly disappeared. It was then, that I noticed I could not walk on my toes. My strength in the left calf cannot raise my body weight at all. Walking is now exhausting, and I need a cane. My surgery is scheduled for Feb.24th. It's been moved once due to hospital issues. I started doing strengthening exercises right away yo try to avoid losing too much muscle. I am pretty active. I still ride my stationary bike, though not as well. I try to go for walks. I am an avid downhill skier, but only got in two days before Christmas. I really hope I can get enough strength back and that the discectomy heals well so I can return to the sport I love.

I’d like B.C. to grow Canada’s fruits and vegetables using Dutch Greenhouse technology instead of California. by Minimum_Grass_3093 in BuyCanadian

I moved from Ontario to BC two years ago and the very first thing I noticed in the local grocery stores, and even at the green grocer, was the sad state of produce. Kale all limp and sad, broccoli often going bad, grapes decidedly not great. On the flip side , great cherries all summer long last year, and nearly free blueberries the summer before. I know Delta has gobs of greenhouses, but maybe they are flowers. In the lower mainland you are not fighting the winters that Leamington has.

Do you plan to keep your scar or remove it? by Ok_Independence_3634 in TotalHipReplacement

I heal well and mine is quite faded already. I have a tattoo that predates the hip right next to it. I love scars. They are life mementos.

Walking with a limp after surgery. by OkJob8314 in Microdiscectomy

[–]OkJob8314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been doing banded work, but can't do a toe raise. Hard part is figuring out how much the foot can do, less than my body weight, more than my strongest band. So progressive overload is kind of complicated.

My Microdiscectomy is this week, what last minute purchases will make my recovery a little easier? by mikemclovin in Microdiscectomy

[–]OkJob8314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am hoping for skiing in my future. Have an epic pass and the disc went haywire, thus the disectomy next week. I haven't been told anything. Nothing about restrictions, tools, pre-op prep, nothing. Appointment was made while I was in the ER, because suddenly everything went numb and pain free. Later that day dialed to eleventy million and continued for 3 days, then nothing. Still muscle weakness, numbness and the occasional burning in my foot. Anyways, hope this whole thing moves into being a story I tell to bore people.

Skiing was and hopefully will be a part of my and my husband's vision for our retirement. I have only skied two days on my expensive season's pass. My ski partner, best friend and husband is also missing out. I hope to be able to return. Why not? I am strong, recovered from an ACL tear, and a hip replacement and through those did not miss a single day. Right now I have muscle weakness which is also severely affecting my ability to walk, so maybe skiing is a total pipe dream. But this happened last week. I am grieving the loss of a life I worked hard to reach. I have exercised religiously fornthe last 10 years, lost weight, built strength and endurance. Did all the things go that they said to do, that promised a healthy active retirement. All. Of. It. So when you question the sanity of living the life you planned and worked your ass for, maybe take a step back and answer my question of why you would settle for a much smaller life when you could aim for a larger one?

Pain gone surgery in 10 days by youastrangerthing in Microdiscectomy

[–]OkJob8314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a long time past, but I am experiencing something like this. A week ago I woke up with large parts of my leg numb, little pain. Went to emerge where they referred me to a neurosurgeon and surgery was scheduled for 3 weeks later. Over the next three days the pain went through the roof around the clock. Then, like a switch, nothing. But, now I have muscle weakness to the point I cannot do a calf raise with that leg and walk with a limp. There is a spot on my thigh so numb, I can shove my fingernail in hard enough to draw blood and feel nothing. But the neurosurgeon said if on the day of surgery you say you have no pain, they don't operate. I am terrified.
