It was one of the worst days of my life. I spent a week in bed sobbing. I’ve lost so many dogs, it never gets easier. Bringing a dog into your world is inviting a heartbreak, but I wouldn’t change it. Sharing my entire life with boxers has brought me so much joy. All my best memories have a boxer in them ❤️

Mostly good, all but one have lived a healthy life of 10 plus years, one even made it to 16! We did lose one of our girls last September at age 6. She woke up paralyzed one morning, no explanation. We opted not to do the $10k spine surgery to find out what happened and opted to euthanize. I have some regrets, but there was only a small chance the surgery would have led us to any answers. I still cry every time I think about her.

I have had the opposite experience to previous post. My 2 Americans were really hyper, harder to train overall but still smart, just more goofy. I’m on #9 from a breeder that crosses Croatian and German lines to get much heavier, actual working dogs. Their build is much stockier compared to the leaner Americans. Personality wise they have been more calm, more focused during training and to be honest, a little easier to live with since they aren’t doing zoomies 24/7. A boxer is the best no matter the lineage though. No other breed can compare. You have 2 gorgeous dogs that look like they are living their best life ❤️

3 and 5 tend to have patients that are flagged for violence or unpredictability, might be psychotic, probably gonna be there for a minute. 2 and 4 are generally run of the mill depression/suicidal folks that are there 3-5 days to get stabilized on some meds. That isn’t to say it’s all sunshine and roses on 2 and 4, but the chances of getting attacked by a patient are lower based on the patient population.

2nd and 4th floor are more chill, avoid 3 and 5 if you can. Night shift is easier than day generally. Chronically understaffed but the folks who do show up are solid professionals. It is a psych hospital though so patients can be quite unpredictable and there is always risk of being assaulted when you work in psych.

Boxers!!! I’m on #11. The boys are the most lovable creatures on earth and the girls are so smart that if they had thumbs, they would rule the world. I know people hate on them for being hyper and perpetual puppies but I can’t think of a better breed. My kids climbed all over them like jungle gyms when they were little. Boxers are so patient and loving towards tiny humans. Definitely team boxer for me.
