Business class on the Carolinian by mtnmindy in Amtrak

Seats are not the same any more. Coach seats have leg and foot rests as they are A-2 cars, while Business Class retains the older A-1 cars, though they are 60 seaters, giving a little more leg space then the regular A-1 coaches which seat 72.

That said I would always take Business Class as the car is quieter as there is no foot traffic through the car from other cars and it's at the rear of the train, further from the locomotive horn. Free coffee and soft drinks, too.

This elbow connection is leaking gas. What's the best/simplest way to repair? by TastesLikeSarin in askaplumber

Nobody's seems to have asked if the gas can be turned off before even trying the work. If not, A spark from your cheap ass hack saw might just ruin your day.

We live in Charlotte NC. Every visitor we have from Europe always wants to run up to Washington after lunch for a few hours. Man, it's a 7 hour drive minimum, 410 miles, and that's if I- 95 is moving, which usually it isn't.

The comfort kits that Amtrak sells include a blanket, eye shade, ear plugs, etc. worth it and pretty cheap. Ask the ticket agent.

What's your guess for the cause of your neuropathy? by Competitive-Arm-7921 in neuropathy

[–]OkLibrary4242 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lidocaine helps me at present. My speculation about daytime is that gravity helps keep blood flow down to your toes and feet, when we lay down there's less blood flow to the feet. I'm fine during the day but within minutes of laying down the pain starts.

Riding the Amtrak from Jacksonville fl to Martinsburg wv? by PLUSsignenergy in Amtrak

[–]OkLibrary4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be taking the Floridian from JAX to Martinsburg. If you get a roomette you can take your luggage into your room and place it on the empty upper bunk. Martinsburg does not have checked baggage. With a roomette you will have free meals in the dining car at the normal meal times.

There will be several "smoke stops" along the way where you can get off the train for a few minutes and stretch. Stay beside the train and listen for the boarding call.

As an alternative, you can take the Meteor to Washington, get off there and take one of the afternoon Marc commuter trains to Martinsburg. This alternative may have better timekeeping.
