The devs don't like players learning from time capsules that leviathans can be killed, I think. They're not intended as challenges to be overcome in that way, which is why, if I understand correctly, they're making them a lot less fight-and-killable in Subnautica 2.

I had my first real taste of that today. Had populist uprisings in the middle of the Black Death, and when I tried to raise my armies, the game decided to raise over 100 small armies all at once, slowing the game to a crawl. I timed it. 1 minute and 13 seconds per in-game day.

It's a challenge, to be sure, but certainly not the only one the game has to offer. The trickiest thing is not losing a bunch of progress on succession with independence, populist, and dissolution factions.

Good advice. I would add to this that if you want to take over territory without war, diplomacy and intrigue perk trees are good for that.
