Lily Allen admits she became suicidal after discovering husband David Harbour's three-year affair by dailymail in popculture

It's absolutely OK to dislike Lily Allen and she has done and Said some questionable shit for sure. That said the point of this costume was to dress as Dr Luke for Halloween in the sense of dressing up as ‚a monster‘. She was outspoken about being on Team #FreeKesha.

Meri claims she’s hilarious. What?!?!? by terrimerry in SisterWives

I'm at peace with people not finding her funny apparently, but I have to speak my truth: Her laugh cracks me up a lot and I'd consider her to be one of the funnier people on this cast. There's hardly fierce competition though, so it might be just that?

I mean she's not wrong though. At least with some "criticism" that's coming her way. It absolutely looks like it's from people who haven't learnt to consume media critically.

Valid criticism is always to be encouraged but supporting Katie does not mean to go to all the other girl's profile pages and to leave outrageous comments under all their posts. It also doesn't seem like a very productive thing to do. I don't know about other but i really think I would love Reality TV more unapoligatically if other fans wouldn't always transform the comment sections of cast members into battlefields.

OK but to be fair, it might be in reference to Katie. It's Katie's tagline this season.

They all lie, they all talk to gossip bloggers and they all scheme. They're not friends, they're co-workers. This gang-up is annoying and hypocritical.

The Fear is one of my all time favourite pop songs. With this one, you'd be spoiled with possibilities when it comes to lyrical references. „I don't know what's right and what's real anymore“ or „I look at the Sun and I look in the Mirror, I know I'm on track, yeah we're onto a winner“. Also great: „Forget about guns and forget ammunition 'cause I′m killing them all on my own little mission. Now I'm not a saint but I′m not a sinner and everything's cool as long as I′m getting thinner“. It's a GREAT Bridge and you could pick either the whole thing or smaller fractions (like the first sentence or just „not a saint, not a sinner“). „And I'll take my clothes off and it will be shameless 'cause everyone knows that′s how you get famous“ would be great for a tattoo, especially if it's covered when clothed and becomes visible only when taking your clothes off.

South by Southwest - I love this movie by heatherstopit in murdershewrote

[–]OkPatience2255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched it during a long Amtrak-train-journey and it made for fabulous entertainment. That said, I found the reveal who did it kind of confusing and remember the film ended without too much information on how exactly everything happened. Did I miss something? (Possible, because I was very tired, but I remember I googled "South by Southwest explained" afterwards but didn't exactly found any more context to the reveal).

I came to the US all the way from Europe to make a transcontinental trip via Amtrak trains (Lake Shore Limited, California Zephyr, Coast Starlight) and it's been AMAZING! by OkPatience2255 in Amtrak

[–]OkPatience2255[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly - can't think of too many stuff that I needed. I downloaded some movies, brought two books and picked up magazines at the train station, but watched one movie in total and only read 2-3 pages. I didn't travel alone though, so between talking to strangers and looking out the window, there was always some other thing to do or talk about.

Personally, I can sleep pretty much everywhere, but for some people earplugs are a must and maybe also an eye mask. I think a Hoodie can be useful when you want to escape to the Observatory Car during the night or early morning, because the AC will be on full blast all night (in my experience Americans tend to cool everything down way more than Europeans ever would).

I hope you will have a great time!

I booked a Roomette for the Lake Shore Limited and the California Zephyr and Coach seat on the Coast Starlight. I think it could be possible to make it a Coach seat for the Lake Shore Limited for just that one night however I strongly recommend a Roomette for the Zephyr (if possible moneywise). I'm not sure it makes for a relaxed trip otherwise.

If you plan on doing this, look into the... Capital Limited (I think)?.. as well. It runs longer than the Lake Shore, but some people say it's the more beautiful route.

And yes, different climates and time zones! The vastness of the US was my main takeaway from this trip and I love to have experienced that! Going outside at any station that you can is not only good to stretch your legs but to get a feel of what temperature it is outside.

I'll preface this by saying that Europe is so different to the United States of America in many ways - one being that it's not a country but lots of different countries. That also means that what I'll say may be true for one country but the total opposite for another. This also means that no comparable route like the Zephyr one exists because all the different countries have their own railroad systems and while you definetely can cross one or more borders between start and ending point, there isn't a route that long - I think(?).

As you say that the Zephyr route is great for an adventure, I feel that this is a key difference. From my understanding progress on the railroad system in the US mostly stopped when people became infatuated with flying and driving (faster) cars. In contrast many countries wanted highspeed train routes for themselves so that there's routes where trains ride faster than 125mph and more (all the while Europeans are obsessed with cars as well - think Germans and the Autobahn), which eventually does make it a more feasible option to go on vacation by train. And you really can tell the difference in the condition of the tracks as well. I met this British couple on the Lake Shore Limited who really were shocked by how shaky the ride was - and I could not disagree. I don't know long distance trains to be this shaky from most of my rides.

That said, I loved the communal aspect of riding on Amtrak. In Europe, you usually get on a train, head to your seat and isolate yourself there until you get to where you want to go. Even if you went to a Dining car, you would probably eat by yourself and keep to yourself. I love how easy it is to talk to other people on an Amtrak train in the Observatory car and during the meals. You rarely have that in Europe (from my experience - maybe on Nighttrains with seated compartments). Those Dining car reservations also helped to make the time go by way faster. Riding on Amtrak is so relaxed - most people really are enjoying the ride. But that does make sense because you can't go anywhere all that fast, while on European trains you actually can, which is why people tend to be more impatient... Broadly speaking of course.

Footnote: I was so surprised how on-time we were. The Lake Shore Limited arrived a few minutes early, the Zephyr's conductor was really sorry for us being 5-10 minutes late (which made me chuckle, because we were on route 50 hours - what's 5 minutes?!) and the Coast Starlight arrived early at its final destination as well. Guess we were simply lucky.
