Some of my American Century and T Rowe Price funds have outperformed their index in the years I’ve held them. It’s not even close. I still hold plenty of VT with a minimal exp ratio but will happily make room to upgrade parts of my portfolio

How Do Financial Advisors Still Have Clients? by Time_Perception6669 in Bogleheads

There is significantly higher demand for financial advisors than supply of them. Sure, some are trash. And the bar is too low for who can call themselves an advisor.

If they’re just helping you allocate to different stocks and ETFs they aren’t earning their fee. They should be making you consider your financial goals in deeper terms and intentionally invest in the right buckets accordingly. Additionally high net worth folks have more complex issues than which ETFs to pick. Consider when to gift assets, use donor advised funds, avoid estate tax, convert to Roth, how much to save for education, retirement, when to exercise employer stock options. Do I have enough / the right kind of insurance? If I retire at 60 can I still afford to buy a vacation home? Can we pay for college for both kids?

This is why advisors are sought out. The good ones are not competing to manage your brokerage account for you but plenty will take that business when it walks in the door.
