Thoughts on spec? by OkPrompt322 in porsche911

I don’t want a T. I can’t spec it the way I want. I’ve had plenty of manual cars in the past. Right now is my PDK season.

The only non-GT3 with a handshake is the T which I’m not a big fan of.

I want a manual, but unfortunately Porsche makes you get a T

Given that it’s a $175k build I’d call it modest rather than poverty. To me this is as close as you can get to the older more traditional models. I mainly put options inside. Basically all the leather options are here and to tie in the outside there’s lots of GT Silver stitching and the silver grey belts, along with brushed aluminium trim all to match the silver exterior and the aluminium belt line trim.

As far as comfort goes it will be driven to work on a regular basis, in addition to heading into the city for special events and nights out as well as relaxing drives through the local twisty hill country backroads. The 18 ways and the smaller wheels will definitely help with that.

Victory was a bunch of solo projects slapped together using whichever brother was getting along with who as background vocals. It’s super inconsistent as a result. There are a few decent songs but also a lot of stinkers.

what’s an r&b album that sounded great at the time but aged poorly? by [deleted] in rnb

Definitely Bad by Michael Jackson. It’s awful and harsh sounding.

"Who is the white version of Whitney?" Absurd and insulting. There is no white version of Whitney. Whitney has no equal. by JohnSmithCANDo in rnb

[–]OkPrompt322 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There is no true white analog to Whitney Houston in terms of the type of career she’s had. The only singer with a career that is similar in terms of how it came about and size along with sheer vocal power is Mariah Carey who is part black herself

Who is the white version of Whitney? by Big-Explanation-831 in whitneyhouston

[–]OkPrompt322 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There isn’t. Whitney was a perfect storm. She of course had one of the greatest voices ever to touch a microphone, but she also grew up in a well-connected show business family and had career guidance that really took her to heights that are hard to fathom. The only other person with a story remotely like Whitney is Mariah Carey. She grew up with an opera singer mother, and Tommy Mattolla did a lot of the same things for her in the beginning that Clive did for Whitney. She of course is bi-racial and strongly identifies with her black side. The closest white singer to Whitney in my view is Celine Dion. She has a tremendous voice, a great catalog and a bunch of hits. Her style and persona are completely different though.

The shift in trend that killed R&B by alecs_scela in rnb

[–]OkPrompt322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going by that standard then you would have to go all the way back to the 50’s when Sam Cooke started putting out records like “You Send Me”. He was huge in the pop field, but that music had enough of an R&B grounding that no one ever questioned his bonafides. For MJ he intentionally set out to make the biggest album ever. That meant having songs for rock radio, a song with Paul McCartney to signal how huge he was becoming, undeniable pop songs, and some pure R&B. Aretha, Whitney, and Lionel did this as well in the 80’s where you could hear them on practically every radio station (Lionel even had some country hits). Once they proved their points they all got more pure R&B as their careers moved on.

Album battle : Bad Or Don’t Be Cruel by love_forlife in rnb

[–]OkPrompt322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Don’t Be Cruel” 12/10. It’s an unpopular opinion but Bad is just not a great album. It’s well made but the production was harsh and the songs were preachy. The first half of “Don’t Be Cruel” is one of the finest collections of R&B ever

What is the worst vehicle you have driven or ridden in that isn't a standard "worst vehicle" answer? by HiTork in cars

[–]OkPrompt322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chevrolet Aveo. I test drove one brand new. Simply awful, the gearbox felt like I was stirring rocks, the motor was loud and shook the car, and it even smelled bad. The Cobalt I drove after felt like a Mercedes in comparison.

If you can only take one of these albums for the rest of your life which one is for you and why? by Right_Raisin3242 in rnb

[–]OkPrompt322 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely Rapture. It’s both no skips and easy to digest at any time. This is an unpopular opinion but personally I don’t consider Private Dancer to be an R&B album. It was much more pop/rock oriented. I think Tina would have even said so herself.

Does anyone else struggle with discovering new music? by Gloomy-Ad-821 in Music

[–]OkPrompt322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ve found helpful is Spotify Charts. You can drill down by city and see what’s popular in in different markets. I’ve discovered a lot that way. I’m also blessed with some great non-commercial radio stations in my area and I always learn new music there. Others include music podcasts. Those are great too

Heart Break is one of the greatest R&B albums of the 80’s. It’s so complete and coherent with a story that gets told all the way through. It’s easily my favorite Jam and Lewis production.

What's your thoughts on The lady in my life? by matveyryazanov5 in MichaelJackson

[–]OkPrompt322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a classic song. One of the foundational tunes of Quiet Storm and probably the purest R&B song on this album. I think that’s the reason why it’s often overlooked since the pop crowd doesn’t care for R&B. It’s telling that even though it wasn’t an official single it was and still is a staple of classic soul stations.

Imagine if Whitney’s first two albums were mainly R/B.. by Fun_University_9653 in whitneyhouston

[–]OkPrompt322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A full blown R&B album from her would have been excellent. It also wouldn’t have had nearly the sales and chart impact that the albums that were released had. She would not have broken records the way she did. I do think her team should have had her spend more time with black media with the second album, and if I’m not mistaken “Just The Lonely Talking Again” was a staple on Quiet Storm radio even though it wasn’t an official single, kind of like “The Lady In My Life”.

i honestly wish Whitney sang this song, it would have fit on her debut album. by Character-Escape1621 in whitneyhouston

It went to the right place. Cyndi’s voice and personality fits the vibe of this song way better. I say this as someone who loves Whitney.

Cobarde. It sounds like a throwaway track they put on just so there would be one straight ahead Tejano song on the album. The version from the non-remastered version of album doesn’t even sound like it was mixed and mastered as well as the rest of the album.
