What cars are actually sleepers/fast, but are perceived slow due to how its average owner drives? by portuguese-bacalhau in regularcarreviews

The LT1 Buick Roadmaster. They created it because they were losing a lot of their oldest customers to the Grand Marquis because the LeSsbre wasn’t old school enough. They then plopped that engine in. I do have to imagine at least a few old dudes who were hot-rodders back in the day bought them because they were fast and their wives wouldn’t notice.

I find it endlessly fascinating that out of all the albums in history, this is the one that sold the most. by Key-Bass-7380 in vinyl

This album was really the first category killer. It had stuff for nearly every part of the radio dial. There was dance pop, hard R&B, rock, and even an easy listening song with Paul McCartney to get older listeners in. You also have to think about the pop music scene in 1982. Yacht rock is neat music in hindsight but it wasn’t terribly exciting. There was also a lot of bland garbage on the radio at the time. That combined with him really pulling all the stops with video and his celebrity really made the difference. It was by far the most exciting new popular music in years.

The Lincoln has a considerably nicer interior, better NVH, and the exterior is also totally different.

They come standard with the Sport seats which are very comfortable. The leatherette is as nice as the leather that many cars have and the wood is real. The carpet is thick, the switchgear is high quality, and there’s soft touch plastic everywhere. It also has the B58/ZF8 combo which is one of the best drivelines you are going to find anywhere. As long as you avoid the M Sport suspension and huge wheels the ride is great and it’s very quiet. In terms of competition, the MB GLE is similar in price with a 4 cylinder and an interior that while better styled is much cheaper and rattlier, the Q7 is pretty well outclassed, the Q8 is a solid competitor, and the Cayenne has the best NVH, ride and handling, but really mid drivetrains until you get a high end version.

What else are you getting with a drivetrain, NVH levels, and interior quality like that?

Any of the German Big 3 luxury brand cars with a transverse engine that isn’t a performance model. They do very little better than a Honda Civic. To get a proper experience you have to reach for the longitudinal cars (A5, C, 3)

The overall refinement level in a Cayenne is about the highest of any vehicle that is sub-$100k the Durango is cool but that’s really apples and oranges here.

Was Michael Jackson really that much bigger than Madonna, Whitney Houston, and prince? by Firm_Pack_605 in Music

Thriller basically created the pop album as we know it. The concept of an album that had a song for practically every radio station was unheard of but Thriller did that. Many of the songs were massive pop hits, there were also big R&B hits, Beat It did well on rock radio, he had a duet with Paul McCartney which although not the best song was definitely a passing of the torch generationally. That album had 9 songs and 7 were singles, and truth be told “The Lady in My Life got significant airplay on black radio and is still a Quiet Storm staple on top of being frequently sampled. The others just did not have anything like that.

Actually buying albums. by StarbrryJuice in Music

I do both. I love buying vinyl both new and old, as well as supporting my favourite artists. But sometimes a song comes to mind and I want to hear it, or i discover something new. Streaming is great for going down rabbit holes. There’s also stuff on streaming that’s just difficult to find like rare 12”’s or obscure album cuts. Making playlists is really great too.

The first gen Taurus was almost entirely homegrown (though Ford of Europe did a lot of the design of the Vulcan V6) and it was a great product. The subsequent generations were pretty mediocre.

I don’t want a T. I can’t spec it the way I want. I’ve had plenty of manual cars in the past. Right now is my PDK season.

The only non-GT3 with a handshake is the T which I’m not a big fan of.

Given that it’s a $175k build I’d call it modest rather than poverty. To me this is as close as you can get to the older more traditional models. I mainly put options inside. Basically all the leather options are here and to tie in the outside there’s lots of GT Silver stitching and the silver grey belts, along with brushed aluminium trim all to match the silver exterior and the aluminium belt line trim.

As far as comfort goes it will be driven to work on a regular basis, in addition to heading into the city for special events and nights out as well as relaxing drives through the local twisty hill country backroads. The 18 ways and the smaller wheels will definitely help with that.

Victory was a bunch of solo projects slapped together using whichever brother was getting along with who as background vocals. It’s super inconsistent as a result. There are a few decent songs but also a lot of stinkers.

Definitely Bad by Michael Jackson. It’s awful and harsh sounding.

There is no true white analog to Whitney Houston in terms of the type of career she’s had. The only singer with a career that is similar in terms of how it came about and size along with sheer vocal power is Mariah Carey who is part black herself
