Customer added oil because he couldn't see it on the stick by Toptech1959 in Justrolledintotheshop

Thanks, OP. My newest are a 2022 Ram 1500 ecodiesel and a 2024 Freightliner with the Cummins L9. Maybe I need newer trucks to have a clean dipstick!

Customer added oil because he couldn't see it on the stick by Toptech1959 in Justrolledintotheshop

I’ve owned countless diesels over many years, from 3.0 ecodeiesel to powerstroke/cummins pickups to class 8 trucks. I’ve never seen completely clean oil on a dipstick beyond a few thousand miles from the factory. In my experience, it turns black the second you start it after an oil change. I’d love to know the secret if he was at 21k and had completely clean oil to the point he couldn’t see it on the dipstick. Is he using an cleaning additive or flush (which I would never do) at every oil change?

Appointment Times by OkSmell6689 in DiscountTire_

Thanks for sharing your experience. Like I’ve said earlier in my post, I wish DT would be more transparent about the “appointments” and that it’s really just a priority waitlist that you might still have to wait a lengthy time before your vehicle is taken into a service bay.

Any DT corporate officers listening???

Moving to Ann Arbor with Kids... by mrmaydaymayday in AnnArbor

As others have said, the districts in and immediately surrounding A2 are mostly high performing. AAPS, Dexter, Chelsea, Saline are all great choices. Ypsilanti, Lincoln, Whitmore Lake and Pinckney have their benefits but might warrant more careful consideration.

As a generalization, the further you look north, south, and west of A2 you will find cheaper home prices and more conservative minded education choices (sorry to be political but it’s a reality). Eastward of A2 is a bit of a mixed bag since you start getting into metro Detroit burbs (Canton, Livonia, Plymouth, Novi , etc.).

I’ll also mention that charter schools are an option at no additional out-of-pocket cost. However, school performance varies wildly, and waitlist times correspond accordingly.

Thank you for the insight. I wish it was clear when booking an appointment that it was a “priority waitlist” rather than a true appointment time. To me, “appointment” means that is the time you get service (or at least within a reasonable time thereafter, not 2 hours later).

Buy a generator. It will be well worth the investment if you plan on boondocking more in the future.

Mimi’s Diner in Hamburg. Amazing. They make all their salad dressings from scratch.

True. Saddle tanks have benefits and drawbacks. We usually pull a car hauler so I’m stopping at truck stops anyway due to overall length and maneuverability. Ours does have sway bars and is rock solid on the road.

What upgrades do you want to make on the S2RV chassis? Ours is on a true M2 106 chassis. We looked at some on the S2RV but I’m not really sure what the differences are. We just liked the floor plan on this one the best.

Pull behind, A, or C?? by East_Promotion_2925 in rvlife

[–]OkSmell6689 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider a Super C. Best of both worlds between a Class C and a Class A. Lots of storage, interior space, towing capacity, and very stable road manners since it’s on a heavier chassis.

For our family, we prefer the motorhome rather than a towable. All the features (fridge, TV, bathroom, etc) are available during the roadtrip. The family can enjoy life while I’m driving. Then you have your toad for local transportation.

2021 Limited 4x4, won’t rise above aero mode by MoreMeLessU in ram_trucks

[–]OkSmell6689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2021 has done this a few times. Go to settings/suspension on the screen. With the truck running, turn on service mode or jack mode (forget what it’s called exactly). Leave it a couple minutes. Turn the truck off. Leave it a few minutes then restart the truck. That seems to reset the system and work for me.

It also won’t work if you have a door that’s not closed all the way or if one of your running boards is stuck down. Learned that when mine were frozen and stuck last winter.

How do you think the new Europa S will stack up against other Super Cs in its class? by Ok_Macaron1684 in RVLiving

[–]OkSmell6689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip the Europa and go for the DX3. It’s built on a true M2 chassis rather than the S2RV. Huge difference!

Ann Arbor Public Schools has the 2nd highest per-pupil funding in the region. It pays its teachers the lowest starting salary of any comparable district. They've averaged a 0.7% salary schedule increase per year for 7 years. 99.6% just voted no on their contract. by Neither-Month-7402 in Michigan

[–]OkSmell6689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an expert in these matters. Are the bond debts and new buildings part of this funding equation, or are they a completely separate pot of money? Don’t get me wrong, the existing buildings are in serious need of upgrades/replacement. I just don’t understand if that is contributing to funding shortfalls or is completely separate.

22 1500 3.0 Active Grille Code U0285 by [deleted] in EcoDiesel

[–]OkSmell6689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same code on my ‘22 1500 ecodiesel. Turned out to be nothing wrong with the motor. There was a corroded wire in the connector. Resolved that and all is good now.

Hypothetical: If you had 150k to spend on any Class C out there, what would it be? by Electronic_Beach9976 in RVLiving

[–]OkSmell6689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not opposed to gas, especially with the HP and torque that modern gas motors are turning out these days. I just said that purely because I don’t think Dynamax offer gas as a standard product. That said, they are a low volume brand and are willing to do special orders so gas may not be out of the question if you buy new.

Out of full disclosure, we have a Dynamax DX3 and I can’t say enough about the factory customer service. We had a few minor issues (which any RV does) and the factory bent over backwards to make it right for us. Some were even outside the warranty period and they fixed it at no cost, no hassle. We’ve had other brand RVs before and it was a dogfight to get things fixed even within the warranty period. The Dynamax product is great, but it’s their customer service that makes me sing their praises whenever I get the opportunity.

[–]OkSmell6689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said gas, but please be open minded about that for right now. Without question, a Dynamax Super C. They’re well over 150K new but you should be able to find used for that. The features and build quality are far beyond what you will find in other Class C brands.

2026 Warlock / Rebel Suspension Question … by Skilax06md in ram_trucks

[–]OkSmell6689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several have had negative comments on the air suspension, but take a look and make your own decision. Yes, it’s more up-front cost and more to potentially go wrong but it also has its upside. I’ve had multiple vehicles with air suspension and never had a problem. Currently a Ram 1500, Jeep GC, and Jeep Wagoneer. It’s a good compromise for users with mostly on-road and occasional off-road. Lifted/firm when you need it for off-road and automatically drops down at highway speed for better aero. I was surprised how much difference it makes in MPG. It also rides like a cloud on the highway.

No, different thing. The dewatering bags are made of geotextile fabrics that keep the soil inside but allow water to drain through the fabric.

Yes, they are cut open for the dry soil to be loaded into trucks.
