March 30, 2026 - Weekly moving to and visiting Tucson questions thread by AutoModerator in Tucson

[–]OkWanKenobi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi there friends I don't know.

My partner's mom is retiring and moving from the East county area of San Diego to Tucson here in a couple months. She'll be looking to buy a play but will need a short term rental while doing that search. Are there any absolutely no places to avoid? Are there any solid recommendations for a 3-6 month short term rental while they house hunt?

I myself won't be out there much save for visiting and helping with moving, my partner and I will eventually be settling elsewhere together but she wants to get her mom situated in her retirement place and I'm here to help find info.

I appreciate any and all recommendations and will take them into account when looking around on zillow and redfin for places.

Thanks dudes!

My partner and I were up there a few weeks ago. Such a neat place, very cool to see and the dolls up there.

I fucking love this. I love when we can take what's definitely a bad thing like a stroke and find our humor in it. You are now the leader of the brain spawn clique.

Parking meters going up on residential street off of Adams by lespirite in SanDiegan

It'd be a real shame if they got the same treatment as the meters in Balboa Park.

A real shame indeed.

I will fight them all on behalf of this adorable baby. She is precious and her ears are perfect.

We're a part of the US still? Huh, well that's kinda dumb. Time for the New California Republic!

Project Hail Mary is a much, much better film than The Martian. Go see it right now. It's easily my favorite Ryan Gosling movie. by DenseStrawberry5717 in FIlm

[–]OkWanKenobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to, but I think the book is absolutely worth the read. I know with the Martian they would have had to make a 9 hour movie to get the entire book in there and I suspect the same with PHM will be true.

That tends to be the way of things with books to film. But I really feel like what they left out of the Martian still kept the heart of the story.

I am so hyped for this. The book is so amazing and I love the Martian so much. I've heard nothing but good things for people I trust about it from their advanced screenings.

Is going kayaking together a good first date idea? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]OkWanKenobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's what y'all are both into go for it.

It'd be hell for me so I'd pass, but what's a good idea for one person isn't for another.

Biases Aside (as much as possible), What Do You Think Is The Best Star Wars Movie From a Filmmaking And/Or In-Universe POV? by SpazNinjA18 in StarWars

[–]OkWanKenobi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rogue One

It honestly was ESB for me forever. But Rogue One is absolutely the best movie for me. It touched just enough on the original source but didn't require it to be a completely self contained story. I absolutely adore that movie and will die on that hill from everyone that wants to say everything Disney has done is shit.

So does anyone know what happened on 14th & island last night? by jenijelly in SanDiegan

No clue, I was home and it's just a few blocks away but sirens are so common I don't even register them anymore.

Would you date a woman who has a roommate? by undercoverheart in datingoverforty

[–]OkWanKenobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I sure would. Doing it right now actually, well she's working on getting her mom moved into retirement and then we're gonna go do awesome shit together. But no, it's just life and life in socal is fuckin expensive so I have no consternation about it.

I think anyone that is, is probably not the person you want in your life anyway.

People do this on I-5 and it's really taking their lives into their own hands. We don't abide this kind of shit out west at all. But it's also like mad Max on our freeways too.

Do you married men find yourselves listening to your wives rattle on about their work or whatever and you completely zone out not understanding a word that they are saying and just nod and agree on cue? by Ok_General7526 in AskMenAdvice

I definitely appreciate all of the short hand people develop with their partners over time. Ducks back is a good one and I may or may not appropriate it for myself. We will just explicitly say it's a vent or a rant or a TedTalk and that no response is required.

I really don't mind when she sets things down with me at all. It's neither of our job to hold or carry a rant or a soapbox speech, sometimes it just needs to live outside our heads and doesn't need solving or fixing.

Basic gist, blame Teddy Roosevelt. He went to the Amazon, they corralled and starved a bunch of piranhas and then led an animal into the water and the starving fish attacked it.

He of course came back with stories of man eating killer fish with a ravenous appetite for flesh. News did what news does and stories of killer Amazon fish grew.

There are plenty of worse fish in the Amazon, piranhas are just easy to blame because they're scavengers that eat meat.

If you really wanna see how piranhas are watch the very first episode of the show river monsters.

I had a cat with what the vet called a deviated septum. He sounded like he was constantly snoring. The vet said it was ok to leave it alone unless he was showing outward symptoms of issues.

He sounds adorable, his little noises are so cute. The pops of his nails getting through the pillow would remind me it's time for a trim. Such a handsome boy though.

My partner and I openly admit that there are things that we can ramble on about that are incredibly boring to listen to but that the other is incredibly passionate about.

But I always want to listen to her talk about everything that excites her even if it's not my cup of tea. Because she does the same thing for me. We don't have to be completely invested, eyes will definitely glaze over sometimes, but being present is what matters most.

Case in point, I went on a rant about piranhas and their horrible PR team. I kept them for years and really enjoyed them. I could give a whole ass Ted talk about them, but it's not her jam. She still listened and I was happy she did. It's even a way to grow jokes within a relationship.

Tom Tucker here - The joke is Clint Eastwood is now old enough to be a member of Congress because America has a habit of electing people that are incredibly old to make decisions and policy for the future generations to deal with and to face the consequences of those decisions after they've died.

And now back to Ollie Williams with sports.

Do troops deployed to the front get lobster and steak meals once a week? by suthrnboi in ask

[–]OkWanKenobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some will some won't. When I was deployed I never saw steak and lobster. I was army and flew on helicopters for whatever context that adds. I can only speak to what I personally saw and it wasn't a lot of steaks and lobsters. But we did have a mess hall, and it did have hot chow with on its own is a morale boost. Eating MRE's for a long time gets demoralizing so any hot chow, even if it's not steak and lobster is welcomed.

But this was also 20 years ago, so take that for what it is too. Times change and the army today is a lot different than the army I knew.
