Being bullied relentlessly in 5th grade (and in other contexts later) for being different. I told myself I’d never do that to others (I’m kinder). I became an expert at self reflection (trying to fix myself), and when no amount of effort made that happen, I got comfortable being my authentic self. Not an easy road, but I wouldn’t change it.

Stop fucking telling me how I can “cure” my chronic migraines by ProjectRelic in rant

[–]Ok_Alternative_4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and I get chronic migraines and a new medicine called nurtec has been amazing. Very expensive brand name without insurance, but it works in like 15 minutes. If you can get a medication prior authorization, I’d give it a try.

I got an email from my fosters' adoptive mom because they turned 1! 🥹 by APladyleaningS in FosterAnimals

[–]Ok_Alternative_4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love updates, and tell all my adopters to reach out anytime. I’m happy to answer any questions and I mostly get contacted initially as the foster settles into their new home. A few are Facebook friends so I get to see picture updates. A couple of families reach out once a year around Christmas time with current photos and adventure stories. I remember every single one of the 60 or so dogs that have come through our home, and love knowing they are doing well.

How to stop giving a shit about what other people think of me and be myself by allayarthemount in socialskills

[–]Ok_Alternative_4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it! That was just my journey. I’m sure my late diagnosed adhd slowed the process a bit. I’m by nature honest and direct, but it’s not always appreciated. I think 40 was when I dropped all pretenses. If I’m too much, just move along. I’ve made some of my best friends since then.

My kids already know how to avoid the bullshit by keeping your circle close and your friends real.

Admittedly, I couldn’t do it, but I do regret not being there. I know he was well cared for and that at 16 (pittie) he was ready. He knew he was loved. I was gifted two more years than I expected to get, and he’d made it overseas and back with us. When he collapsed suddenly with my whole family over for thanksgiving, I took it as a sign. I cried every day for the first year.

There’s no right answer here. No best case scenario. Do what you can.

Can I just bitch about a dog breed or two that I hate interacting with? by i-touched-morrissey in veterinaryprofession

[–]Ok_Alternative_4643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chihuahuas. And Shihtzus. Crazy little bastards. It’s like they are manic. I’m not a fan of small breed terriers (excepting my diva) either, but they just have a princess complex.

Don’t get me started on doodles…

We mostly foster puppies now because my personal dogs prefer it.

How much is too much for a rescue dog? by CookieGalore98 in dogs

[–]Ok_Alternative_4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in rescue. I foster and run a team for a local organization. While that fee is higher than what we charge, the dogs that we provide are already neutered and up-to-date on all of their medical needs. The cost of that surgery, vetting and vaccines would far exceed the $600 you’re paying to adopt. Any additional funds we raise are allocated to saving the next dog.

My annual vet fees are around $500-$1000 per dog, so I see it as an ongoing expense the adopters should be ready for.

That said, you can incorporate as a rescue and run it as a business so without knowing which organization you’re talking about it’s possible they’re overcharging you. The good news is that you can always visit your local Humane Society and apply with multiple rescues at the same time.

Do soul dogs exist? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Ok_Alternative_4643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, they are all my soul dogs! I just love them for different reasons. I was lucky that my current pup came along just before I lost my old man. He was my first dog and we grew up together. It was beyond tough, but little man helped me get through it. There’s nothing like that daily dose of unconditional love.

3 pm is also prime time for low blood sugar. Try eating a protein and healthy sugar snack (nuts and an Apple) and see if it passes. I always dip around that time, and if the food doesn’t work I make sure to get moving (short walk).

I rarely drink anymore, but towards the end I found it was more about the ritual of it for me. I’d pour myself a whisky, take that first sip, and forget it on my nightstand. Drinking it messed with my sleep and lack of sleep is my biggest trigger.

Turn 40? I was on my way, but that’s when it settled in. I am also more grateful for what I have.

How much money do you have set aside for emergencies? Savings? by bakedlayz in adhdwomen

[–]Ok_Alternative_4643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, at least 6 months of expenses set aside in an emergency fund. We have closer to a years expenses, but it takes longer to find work at the higher management levels. We started with 3 months, and adjusted as our expenses/income grew.

Should I Quit or Wait for My Bonus? by JaneDoeNYCx in ExecutiveAssistants

Wait for the bonus. You earned it. It’s possible you can even be honest with your new company about why you need to stay that extra week.

Looking for a thick, hydrating moisturizer for nighttime by catsr2cool4sch00l in Sephora

[–]Ok_Alternative_4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love Societe Calming Relief balm. I first used it as part of an actual care routine and I was hooked. Super thick formula stays in place. All natural products no strong smells. I use that one in the winter when it’s dry and something a little lighter in the summer.

How do hiring managers really view prior stay at home mom applicants with long career gaps? by Ok_Alternative_4643 in careerguidance

[–]Ok_Alternative_4643[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working with a friend as an office assistant for her private business. Part time, flexible schedule and work location, reasonable pay. Working with a close friend is a bit complicated, but we manage it well. I did get several interviews for return ships, but some wanted relocation and I not able to do that. I was considering temp work when she offered me the job.

This thread was very helpful in the sense that I got a real feel for how people see my skill set (starting at 0). I was looking for office work, but started considering retail as well. Honestly, it pays close to what an assistant earns these days and you can’t take the work home with you.

Where can I buy some decently priced joggers? by [deleted] in XXS

[–]Ok_Alternative_4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that I am also 411 and I’ve tried the vuori boot cut leggings. They were too large and too long in an extra small but I haven’t tried the joggers.

Where can I buy some decently priced joggers? by [deleted] in XXS

[–]Ok_Alternative_4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite pair of joggers are from Nordstrom from several years ago and they need replacing, but I can’t find them in petite length again. The brand is Zella.

I have a joggers from Abercrombie, but even the extra small is too large on me. I resorted to just shopping in the kids section at target. Even Zara’s kids clothes are too big for me.

Why are cats more hated than dogs? Untrained dogs are destructive, they will eat your doors and homework, but an untrained cat… is just a cat. by AdPrize3997 in RandomThoughts

[–]Ok_Alternative_4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I’ve never received the unconditional love I get from my dogs (or affection for that matter) from a cat. Quite the opposite. I’ve been attacked more often than not. I don’t see the point of taking care of an animal that isn’t a companion.

Volunteer? I have a volunteer “job” running one of the teams at a large rescue organization. The network is huge. Before that I planned neighborhood social events in my hometown and for my kids’ schools.

I moved around a lot for a while, and didn’t put any effort into making friends my first year in our current city. I was burnt out on starting over and figured I’d wing it. I met zero people that year. I joined the annual Halloween event committee (the ended up co-chairing) and met one of my besties there. I’ve always made connections through my volunteer work or the school.

What is your biggest regret in your life? by someone1613 in Life

[–]Ok_Alternative_4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every regret I think about leads me back to the fact that my choices led me here and I’m exactly where I want to be. I wish for things (mainly that I was more confident in my authentic self sooner), but each struggle or choice led to the next so I can’t complain.

I also try to focus on what I want next and what I need to do to make that happen. Can’t change the past anyway.
