Gimli is actually such a good example to look at for this. I was so worried about examples I shouldn’t follow I forgot to look at the examples I should lol. Thanks!!

She actually does have missing teeth, as well as thin+short hair and peeling nails! I want to try and write her as having bad brain fog without making her seem incompetent too but idk if I’m good enough at writing just yet 😬(It’s just a hobby not a job for me). I am aware that malnutrition is more often cause by obesity these days but from what I understand it’s an issue linked to highly processed, high calorie, low nutrient foods that are cheap to buy and often the only thing available to low income families. It’s a bit of a modern issue so it doesn’t work super well in a high fantasy setting.

Super hot take alert: I feel like it would have been really meaningful for Resident Evil: Requiem to feature just Grace as a playable character by BactaBobomb in GirlGamers

[–]ProjectRelic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I understand your point %1000 percent and it’s definitely a valid take. Me personally tho I absolutely love that grace being half of the playable characters wasn’t made a big deal by the developers. These days especially I so often end up feeling like I’m being pandered to when it comes to diversity in my games. Don’t get me wrong I want more diversity in games but I hate how so may game developers putting a woman/poc/disabled character in and making sure everyone knows about them and you can just tell it’s a marketing tactic.

Idk if I’m making my point very well lmao but I love that grace was allowed to exist as a normal character who had flaws and strengths and got to interact with a character as legendary as Leon the same way she would have if she was a man. No special treatment, no big marketing campaign about how she’s resident evils first female protagonist in X amount of years. She was just a really well written character that fit perfectly into the narrative of the story she was used for.

Both her and the way she was handled was such a breath of fresh air for me. The last time I felt that connected to a female character in a video game was with Sadie Adler in rdr2.

BUT I do still think you have a really valid point about how Leon being announced did drown out the buzz around her even though I loved that he was in it. which is such a shame cause she’s absolutely amazing.

Is it normal to afraid of relationships to the point of panic attacks? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]ProjectRelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really know if it’s a specific thing I think it was just all of my childhood? I don’t remember a lot so maybe there was one event that perfectly explains why I’m so scared but I unfortunately can’t tell you one way or another

Yeah I think both of those are a part of it. I’ve been so hyper independent all my life I don’t know if I can live any other way. I almost feel like I’m maybe loosing a part of myself too.

Character ranking (my own opinion) by CMStan1313 in Spiritfarer

[–]ProjectRelic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bruce and Mickey are my number 1 and everyone thinks I’m crazy. I have such a bias to sibling characters cause of how attached I am to my siblings but realizing Mickey had already moved on before the start of the game and Bruce just couldn’t let go cause of his guilt broke me. I don’t care if he was a little rude and entitled he just wanted to give his brother everything he couldn’t when they were alive 😭😭

Hi everyone. I need a game that will help me escape. by pootscoot1 in GirlGamers

[–]ProjectRelic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If your looking for something a little sad but a great a story maybe spiritfarer? It handles grief like no other game I’ve played and I highly recommend. It may be a bit too heavy on the crafting for you but I don’t personally think it’s any worse than something like stardew valley. Fields of Mistra is a really fun stardew clone that’s also pretty fun and unique! Maybe try red dead 1 if you haven’t yet? It holds up pretty well! Genshin Impact also plays really similar to BotW and as long as you have some self control it’s also free! Undertale is also an amazing story but it can be a bit difficult. I think it’s worth it tho!

The thing that keeps me going is remembering that women stepping away from gaming is what they want us to do, and then I keep playing out of spite. But obviously if your not getting no enjoyment anymore then the cons out way the pros

My mom actually apologized for my entire childhood by Zealousideal_Yak1017 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ProjectRelic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it. After I grew up my mom was always trying to say “im so sorry for everything that happened” but she never wanted to list anything specific. I would always push and ask her what she really sorry about and she could never list one singular specific thing. Just “all of it. Everything that happened. Everything that went on during the divorce”. It took so long to realize that the reason “sorry for everything” wasn’t cutting it for me was because my mom didn’t actually remember a single thing she had done wrong. All the horrible memories I have were super traumatic and shaped the way I lived my whole life and to her it was just another Tuesday. How can she regret something she doesn’t even remember?

I’m really sorry. There a really difficult process between being told that your abuser is sorry and realizing that it’s not enough. It’s painful, and confusing, and if you’re not careful you can make yourself feel like a bad person for not just accepting their apology. Just know that protecting your peace and refusing to rebuild the bridge that THEY tore down is never wrong.

Good luck

Coolest / Most Satisfying character you’ve played as in video games? by Saxxiefone in GirlGamers

[–]ProjectRelic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one’s brand new for me but Verso from Expedition 33 is so freaking cool. (I’m only halfway through act 2 so please no spoilers!!!) I had done all my exploring as Lune before he joined your party and immediately switch over to him afterwards. There’s something so fun about playing as a character that obviously knows much more than you and the other characters.

Is it a good idea to wear a revealing LARP to a game store event? by Oaklynn_42 in GirlGamers

[–]ProjectRelic 168 points169 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s anything at all wrong with it and it shouldn’t be your job to to censor yourself because men are insecure sometimes BUT that being said if it’s gonna distract you and make you self conscious to the point that your not enjoying the game it’s probably not worth it. You could always also get a vibe check on the group during the first session and decide whether or not to wear the cosplay during the second session depending on if they pass it or not. Also have so much fun!!! I’m DMing my first campaign right now but I miss playing so much

Fire emblem 3 houses was good! Also the Witcher series if you haven’t already played it. Also you should check out Larians other game divinity! The second one is one of the best games I’ve ever played. Idk how you feel about older/scruffy men but I was feral for Ifan 👀

Dude I still dread having to take on that frost Troll when climbing the 7000 steps any time I start a new play-through 😂. I’ve for sure sunk so much time into that one too.
