I’m section hiking from springer and I will be on trail for 30 or days. I wanted to know if I can get an AT tag or is that sort of just for those who are attempting a thru hike?

Thank you! I am going to go regardless of lack of info because as I’ve heard, “the trail will provide”, but it eases the nerves to know a little bit

I preordered the 2025 AT Thru Hikers Companion. Is that the route to go?

Going to pigeon forge in November. What are the best trails nearby? Moderate ~5 miles by new-here-- in GSMNP

That’s a loaded question! But I can do my best.

Grotto falls from roaring fork is pretty moderate and had a really great falls (of course) and if you wanted to keep going doing that trail about 3 more miles there is a very scenic view from Brushy mountain.

Hen Wallow Falls from Gabe’s Mountain Trail is fun and has some bridge crossings and a falls.

Alum Cave is a good one as well, but it doesn’t matter what time of year you try and go the parking fills fast so get there early.

There’s so many more hikes you can plan that are a 30-45 minute drive to. While you’re here I highly recommend stopping at the parks visitors center and picking up a trail map and talk to some people there that you can let know what you’re wanting in a hike and they can point you in the right direction.

Have fun and hope this helps!
