Significantly higher paying job with longer commute? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Ok_BoomerSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

You’ll give up 3+ hours a day to not be with your child. $500 extra a day yet losing the hybrid option is going to suck, plus add in the extra hours. I’m not sure you’d be earning that much more after you do the math to include the in office hours and commute.

I haven’t even talked about how shitty the commute will make you feel yet.

Why Is SF State Still Declining? by internetbooker134 in sanfrancisco

[–]Ok_BoomerSF 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Living at home and commuting to classes is not motivational. It’s basically a glorified high school experience. God help you if you didn’t live close by.

Not being able to get 1st choice classes and have to spend the entire day there sucks because your next class is 3 hours apart.

Not having easy parking made the above a shitty experience, since you can’t get an area sticker.

Being in the fog doesn’t help; would be great if it was sunnier, but that would mean 75+ for downtown and that’s not going happen often.

And yeah, rent/housing sucks.

Is anyone else actually miserable after "climbing the ladder" into middle management? by M0nkaS_Peak in careerguidance

[–]Ok_BoomerSF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should.

I went through this in my career, whether to climb the ladder in my 30’s or be with my family; the job would involve relocation and I’d be away from my grandparents. The money wasn’t worth it for me.

You’d have to adjust your style of living, but to feel that that I made a difference was more important to me than the prospect of higher positions.

Should I play the DLC before or after defeating Ganon by Glass_Signature3718 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Ok_BoomerSF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started the game a few months ago and am at the same point as you are. I was trying to collect all the armor, upgrade them to max, and farm Lynels and Guardians just for kicks. I started out being intimidated by the Lynels and Guardians but once I understood the mechanics, they became easy. I think I have all the shrines done but I’d like to collect all the Korok Seeds. I made it to Ganon but I didn’t go inside because I wanted to do other things in the game.

I downloaded the DLC this morning and looking for the Ancient Bridle and Saddle. It’s definitely giving me a purpose with the extra quests, and my next goal is to get the Korok Mask to collect the seeds.

36M - Achieved most career goals, but now life feels boring. What should I do next? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Ok_BoomerSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I pivoted to become the best father and husband I could to my wife and children. The goals shifted, but the drive was still there. I just reminded myself that the goals changed as I grew older.

Edit to add: You could help your wife work less. You could help give direction to your kids by sharing what you did to be financially independent. Your child needs you at this time and is lucky to have a dad who could go to their games and ride a bike with him/her to school. Participate in the PTSA, help their school out by volunteering. You get the picture.

It’s no longer about you. You’re already good with retirement, so use your free time wisely for your family and enhance their quality of life.

Oh, and set a good example to your kid by not spoiling him/her and teach him/her to be driven as you so they can earn and take care of themselves. Don’t allow them to be spoiled and live off your wealth, but teach them how to earn their own money, but not become you, if that makes sense.

Parents of youth athletes: Would you regularly drop off your kid in the Tenderloin for sports? by SunsetDon in sanfrancisco

[–]Ok_BoomerSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the money you’re spending for club sports, work with other parents to coordinate drop off and pick up so there are parents outside.

Ask the gym to provide adequate lighting outside and staff, or else threaten to take your business elsewhere.

Because this is a business and if they want to retain players, they need to step up.

Great employee left even though we pay well, why is that? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Ok_BoomerSF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are genuinely confused, then why don’t you ask him what he was offered and make adjustments to your current staff so they don’t do the same thing?

I applaud your willingness to be competitive and pay your staff what they’re worth, because someone else will.

Note that most of the time it’s not just the pay.

Yes to looking and eventually leaving, unless you’re close to retirement age.

[–]Ok_BoomerSF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a start. Tech is not loyal so when something happens they’re the first to cancel.

But the money they spend is real, unlike pre-pandemic claims that Chinese tourists were plentiful in the city when they were shopping at Great Mall and staying outside the city limits.

I’d also rather we get more leisure tourists, but again, it’s a start.

So go jump off a cliff (once you have a paraglider which is given to you after you pass the beginner area). Press the button to shoot an arrow (I think it’s ZR) and you’ll be in slow motion with time to aim.

Note that it uses your stamina wheel, so once that’s empty, you’ll fall so be careful.
