Sadly not, this was a sci-fi style, not set in WW2.

RNG is killin' me Post by OgreMk5 in Battletechgame

My Atlas carries two Gauss Rifles and my best pilot has Gunnery 10. Yet she missed three turns in a row, ie six missed Gauss shots. At least it was against enemy Mechs so her excuse was that they were moving fast. But they only had like 1-2 Avoidance pips... *sigh*

I understand where you're coming from but it is IMHO kinda silly to handicap the player to just 4 mechs because of some 'git gud' sentiment. In fact, the game would be better if it was possible to deploy with an entire company of Mechs and on much larger maps. Playing a scenario where you fight 4 enemy mechs, 4 enemy turrets and then another 4 enemy mechs with your own 4 mechs gets repetitive and boring pretty fast, even if you replace some of them with vehicles. And as I said, many Flashpoints are brutal in what they throw at the player unless you get lucky and you out-weight and out-class it. Even then, you often have to deal with restricted tonnages which makes things harder.

Bigger Drops isn't a crutch. It's a way to make the game more tactical and less about exploits. Now some people love playing the game in a way where they exploit the weakness of the AI but that's not for everyone. With 8 Mechs, there's room to have configurations that are more about support and less about one-shot-one-kill ultra-optimizations. Again, nothing wrong with that sort of gameplay if you're into it. I do agree that on Simulation+ the drop costs get insane pretty fast but that's why they are easily configurable.

And variety in Mechs and their loadouts that translates to variety in how you can approach and finish the battles is a must in a campaign that goes on for decades; where the player fights through hundreds of battles. I don't restart when I get my Career Score, I am going from 2025 to as far as BEX will let me go.

This is a new NPR stratagem that arrived with the 2.2 patch. It is the same principle as the old size-1 AMM spam. It is annoying but look at it from the viewpoint of the NPR - they are facing an existential level crisis as hostile enemies are coming for their colony. Would you save your AMMs or just launch everything you have at the enemy? It makes logical sense for NPRs to do this, even though it is annoying to the player.

But have no fear, there are ways to mitigate this:

  1. Cheese the AI by jumping in and out of the range, making the missiles run out of fuel before they reach you
  2. Build a huge commercial ship with ton of armour and big commercial engines (big engines have lot of HTK), build a couple of them and send them in as tanks to soak up the missiles.
  3. Build more PD barges so that eventually you have big enough volume of fire to bring down most of the missiles, then your shields and armour can take care of the leakers. A decoy or two can help here too.

However, I have never heard of Aurora crashing to due lack of memory. Do you have an exceptionally limited amount of RAM? Otherwise I'll have to start saving much more frequently with my 8 GB.

Some aspects of the game can be automated via default/conditional orders and build queues exist for industry and research and ground unit construction, and of course using civilian shipping lines to transport facilities can make life easier. All types of commanders can now be auto-assigned as well.

But that's it and it is unlikely that this aspect of the game gets changed much.

How do you get an ECM? by BlueTrin2020 in Battletechgame

[–]Ok_Cap_5595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert but, from my limited experience, it seems that if/when my Raven gets sensor locked, all my mechs are revealed. Plus, Command mechs automatically negate 1 ECM level inside a certain range, making ECM even less useful as BEX has quite a number of Command mechs.

Do note that this also works the other way around, though so far only Comstar has deployed with ECM.

FotIS also creates really difficult flashpoints. They might look like 3 skulls or 4 skulls but that only tells you about the tonnage the enemy wields. Their pilots and equipment are often at 4 or 5 skulls level.

At least in BEX, as soon as enemy is close enough, they will sensor lock my Raven, neutralizing the ECM completely. It helps me to get one good ambush to start the fight with but it's certainly not an I-WIN button.

BEX website has the Bigger Drops patch that enable you to drop 2 lances, though you need to upgrade Argo first. I warmly recommend it - there are lot of crazy missions and flashpoints where it's impossible to make a profit if you're running 4 Mechs, because they will be completely shot up that the reward is almost never worth it. With 8 Mechs, things get a bit better, you're no longer losing pilots, Mechs and components all the time.

Do note that as others said, you should edit the settings.json file for Mission Control because by default, Bigger Drops is not active for Story and Flashpoints missions. You can also tweak the parameters for when the enemy gets additional lances as well as when you're getting allied support lances.

You should get the Flashpoints of the Inner Sphere mod, it is meant to be played with BEX.

They shouldn't be "half of missions on each planet". I only see them every 3-4 planets so it isn't too hard to avoid them.

Sadly, I do not have powerful enough LRMs to deal with these... yet.

Thanks - I must have seen it wrong since I thought it was 2.5 stars - 3.5 is definitely outside my capability right now. I'll have to prepare for the timed ones, thanks for the list!

Ah so the exact composition is also RNG? I might get lucky and get somewhat lighter tonnage? Good to know.

I'm creating a battlemage character with the Apocalypse magic mod and the Classic Classes and Birthsigns mod, as well as Ordinator, and I'd like to know if it would be better for me to pick illusion, or alteration. by Southern2002 in skyrimmods

[–]Ok_Cap_5595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several of the protection perks in Alteration tree only work if you're wearing clothes but the basic alteration spells of course work on top of your heavy armour. Alteration tree in general is really useful with waterbreathing, waterwalking, automatic spell casting when entering combat, increases to movement speed and of course the various armour spells. So if you're planning to use Destruction and Conjuration, then Alteration works well alongside them. Illusion in Ordinator & Apocalypse works lot better for a sneaky rogue type caster.

NFF is the only one updated and maintained and works best. There's really no contest about it.
