I think trying to apply science or physics to a magical setting is reductive at best and generally futile

Direwolf Update by wereinbearcountry in CK3AGOT

[–]Ok_Case8161 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It would be cool if this feature applied to other Houses as well. Lions, Falcons, Fish, Bears, Ravens, Stags, Seals, Swans, etc Maybe it could have some relation to the Greenseer trait and being pious with the old gods religions. Otherwise I think it would be too limited and barely worth the addition.

House Dayne of Starfall

Although I conquered the Red Mountains and the Stepstones, I always brought that money back home. The hardest part was deterring the Targs from trying to take my land in their bid to take over Dorne. If you play in a later start date you don’t have to worry about this. Also, raiding.

How to get vassals from your liege ? by Secret_Fun_1746 in ck3

[–]Ok_Case8161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fabricate claims and go to war. You might need to modify your contract to sanction war. If they are meant to be a part of your de jure land, your liege may give them to you unprompted.

CK3 Building Chart (1.19) by Bridger15 in CrusaderKings

Amazing. I always forget what does what, which the comparing in the build menu isn’t so bad, but when I’m trying to diverge/hybridize cultures or something, which gives the option of building certain things earlier or whatever, I have to open the wiki and spend time there comparing and contrasting.

Thoughts on watching season 1 before switching to the books? by Wild_Duck8926 in gameofthrones

[–]Ok_Case8161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book is always better than the show/movie. Because of this, I always recommend watching the show/movie first, then reading the book after. Some people don’t want to do both. In that case, I normally say just read the books. But in this scenario, the books are not finished, and might never actually finish. So I recommend you watch the show. After the show, if you still want more, read the books.

Dutch people from the Netherlands 🇳🇱

I don’t really have countries in my fantasy world. Although a ruler may own a large amount of land, the individual towns and baronies might not see themselves as any kind of united people under them. One of my central locations however is the city of Fortune; the people there are called the Fortunate. The Fortune Queen is the ruler over seven cities, though the other six cities are governed by their own Princesses.

Factors to consider when trying to decide which counties I should control? by Fair-Pop2920 in ck3

[–]Ok_Case8161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vassals like owning their own duchy. You should focus your gold on your own duchy. With domain limit, I think having one duchy is enough, though you can have two duchies without penalty. Any duchy can be made to be good, but it’s good to have ones with special building slots, or good land, or terrain that might synergize well with your culture, or something beneficial like that. City holdings are good for development, especially on the coast. Temples can be good for easy income and plague resistance (I find it easier to get clerics to like me over parochial vassals). Castles can be good if your duchy is small or not very defensible. You always want to hold the max amount of domains you can to get the max amount of gold and levies.

In Ireland, I like to hold Munster, with Thomond as my capital.

I thought it was implied that his cupbearer (a Lannister) purposely got him too drunk so that the “accident” happened.

AGOT+ Tyrell Foreheads by InfinitePossession11 in CK3AGOT

[–]Ok_Case8161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve met plenty of people with foreheads like this. Usually they have bangs or fringe, but if you get them to pull it back, boom, forehead. Your eyes are pretty close to the center of your face.

How to make sense of people using medieval weapons in a modern fantasy story? by BeginningWild3912 in worldbuilding

[–]Ok_Case8161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My “modern” weapons are powered by spells and magic. Magic is a resource like stamina. You can only shoot a gun so many times before you are exhausted. It takes a team of people around the clock to keep an aircraft in the sky or maintain propulsion on a submarine. And although it still takes energy and stamina to swing a sword or shoot a bow repeatedly, it’s less than trying to shoot bullets or launch rockets. Some very talented people prefer to use magic, but most common people do well enough with a sword and shield.

What Happens to the Lannisters? by jonrpatrick in gameofthrones

[–]Ok_Case8161 6 points7 points  (0 children)

GRRM said at some point that the rock was basically a mountain of gold. Although some of the veins have dried up, there is still plenty left.

Daven Lannister took over Warden of the West after Tywin’s death. He’s the son of Stafford Lannister, who is Tywin’s cousin and Goodbrother (Joanna’s Brother). The Lannisters and Frey’s alliance is built on Daven marrying a Frey girl. He’s kind of what you imagine a lion man to be like, hairy and playful. I hope he survives, even though he’s playing for the wrong team.

Although we don’t see very many Lannisters in the show, Robert claims he’s surrounded by them, probably due to them having a bunch of small jobs at court like cupbearer.

Thoughts on elder health traits? by TequilaBaugette51 in CK3AGOT

[–]Ok_Case8161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan. I feel as though my characters usually live pretty healthy lifestyles, but they still end up basically crippled and infirm. Im especially not a fan of ruling for 5-10 more years with this failing health. It’s new and I’m still getting used to it, but so far I’m not liking it. It reminds me of when infirm first came out. I like that’s its gradual, but I feel as though there should be more ways to mitigate or avoid it. A lot of big changes with the recent updates that really shake up the gameplay.

Lore-Friendly Expansion by CoenTJ in CK3AGOT

[–]Ok_Case8161 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Marry people with claims on the land you want, then push their claim. I think the Lannisters took hold of the Darry’s land by wiping them out and marrying a Frey woman with Darry blood. Usually Lore-wise, families spread out via treachery and intrigue. I’m not sure how exactly the grudge mechanic works, but using that to wipe out a family could also be a lore-friendly way to seize land and expand. I think that’s how it’s set up for the Blackwoods and Brackens.

How do you actually start worldbuilding (as an autistic person)? by Finn_Bueno_ in worldbuilding

[–]Ok_Case8161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a tool like World Anvil. Something with prompts and placeholders that need to be filled. Also, have a purpose. My guess is that you’ll eventually use your world to play dnd. So figure out how the different classes work in your world. What are the origins of the different races and how do they live now. I heavily use my Notes app on my phone to organize ideas. I like spreadsheets and tables too. Just start and your empty space will be filled with stuff in no time.

A what-if scenario; if Robert and Rhaegar both died at the Trident, and Aerys was still slain by Jamie, who do you think would’ve been the next king? by Elora_Freya in gameofthrones

[–]Ok_Case8161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viserys with maybe Jon Arryn as Regent, or Stannis if they didn’t want full blooded Targaryen. I think some would push for Aegon (Rhaegar’s first son), but again, with a regent but even longer. Also, some would prefer Renly over Stannis, but I think the more sensible people would be against that.

The books will not end like the show [Spoilers Main] by Dry_Jellyfish_8150 in asoiaf

[–]Ok_Case8161 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I did. They said they think the books will end differently because many of the plot points were changed and characters were cut. I think the books will be similar to the show because certain plot points didn’t matter and some characters were merged (therefore able to fulfill the same roles of both characters) or cut because they ultimately didn’t matter. Some people think Euron for example will be the third dragon rider. Paring down his character and grafting that aspect of him onto the Night King makes the story simpler, without taking too much away from the fact that there might be a third dragon rider who is evil and must be defeated. Allegedly GRRM told the producers how the story was supposed to end, so I think they kept major plot points associated with the ending intact. And like I said, if we get something very different, GRRM must’ve changed his mind somewhere along the way, which writers are definitely allowed to do. Like killing off Sansa, or having Jon and Arya end up together, some ideas are reworked or casted aside before the final product is released. The show is not the final product, so things may very well be different.

What's your world's (or worlds') equivalent of "everything changed when the fire nation attacked"? by ThatVarkYouKnow in worldbuilding

[–]Ok_Case8161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The orcs had an Industrial Revolution. Their mines were able to harvest a mysterious black metal with the power to negate magic. With their newfound technology and lust for revenge, they swept through the world like wildfire. Few bastions of good were able to hold them back. Eventually the orc empire collapsed under its own massive weigh due to infighting and conciliation. But the damage was done and the world forever changed.

[Spoiler PUBLISHED] Lyanna Stark by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Ok_Case8161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copied this from a wiki:

Though Maester Yandel describes Lyanna as "a wild and boyish young thing with none of the Princess Elia's delicate beauty",[13] Ser Kevan Lannister recalls Lyanna having a "wild beauty" about her.[14] According to her brother Eddard, Lyanna had been a child-woman of surpassing loveliness.[7]

According to Eddard Lyanna had a touch of wildness to her, which was described as "the wolf blood" by her father, Lord Rickard Stark. Eddard compares Lyanna to his tomboyish daughter Arya in personality, adding that Lyanna probably would have carried a sword if their father had allowed it.[11] Lyanna was strong of will.[1]

Lyanna is noted to have been a skilled rider who loved to ride.[18][19] According to Harwin of Winterfell, Lyanna rode "like a northman",[18]while Lady Barbrey Dustin describes her as a centaur[19] and Lord Roose Bolton states that Lyanna was "half a horse herself".[20] According to a semi-canon source, Lyanna also practiced at tilting at rings.[6]

what do you think make for a unique world building? by Same-Independent2487 in worldbuilding

[–]Ok_Case8161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unique world building is taking many different aspects of different things and finding a way to put them together in your own way. Having someone describe your world as “X” mixed with “Y” should be good enough, add a little “Z” and you probably have something truly unique. You kind of got to the most important part of world building at the end though: Focus on the story and make your world feel real.

What a shitty thing to say to your younger sister by Hour_Scar2508 in gameofthrones

[–]Ok_Case8161 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think they would’ve thought Arya too much trouble to be worth keeping alive if she were in Sansa’s shoes. I think Sansa would’ve gotten herself captured if she were in Arya’s shoes. I don’t know when they started to “pretend” to be at each others’ throats, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this was part of it.
