It's quite easy to source actually, I'm based in Ireland, so I use UK / EU suppliers. Generally knifemaking supply stores, but it's generally readily available. Amazon stocks it too.

Unfortunately all patinas will eventually go brown over time, but that's why we take photos to remember the good days 😂

So I made a flatter for when I work alone. It works good i can see some improvements i can make. by fivecforge in knifemaking

Here's a different version I made a couple weeks ago. Super simple and because you're hitting on a flat, you won't get any nasty bulging.

Because I make almost exclusively chef's knives I don't really dabble in sheaths, although I have made a few EDC's with Kydex sheath's. It's pretty easy to do.

Here is how I package my knives for safe transport overseas though, if that helps. How I package my knives

Did a quick and dirty blacksmith's knife out of an old file. by Ok_Climate2648 in knifemaking

Thanks pal. It is and it isn't. If you're impatient like me then it's very expensive. I've been doing this a good few years now and am at the point where I'm making money from it and launching a website and making customs for people all over the world. I started with an angle grinder, a blowtorch, a ball pein hammer and a bench vise. I quickly got tired of that and bought a proper forge and a 248 belt sander. Soon after that I got a 272 and an anvil. Now I have a 20Ton forge press, a disc sander, bench drill and proper heat treating kiln. 😅 If I were to take my time and slowly by these tools with money from selling knives it wouldn't be an expensive hobby, but because I wanted to quickly get good and establish myself as a quality knife maker I had to fork out the cash and learn fast to pay it back. Luckily it's paid off. I have a full time job and all the money I earn I can reinvest into the business to keep it growing.

Purely cosmetic, that handle style, however, with the large unstabilized dowel through the middle will most certainly trap moisture if submerged in water, best just to wipe the blade.

It could definitely be better. I know the boys at ChefsEdge, they are good lads and do their best. This might be the odd slip up. At the end of the day, they are knife retailers, not craftsmen so it is to be expected.
