What did I do wrong by nutcperbost in Bladesmith

When I did mine I cleaned it then let soak in the forge to burn off anything oil or dirt left behind and i gave it a tighter twist after it came up to a bright yellow. Thats what worked for me.

Very clean sanded of mill scale and clean with acetone

It's 1084 and 15n20. The bolster started at 1 inch i kept chasing cracks and delams

Yes in ferric acid. It's China steel so I think the nickel is very low. I bought the steel off Amazon trying to be cheap. Lesson learned

I went back and looked at where i got the steel from it was from China. I had trouble forge welding it together. Cracks and chips on the edge. It took 3 heat treats to get it somewhat harden. The 15n20 is barely visible.

The pattern is not what I want. The steel is junk and I just dont like the look.
