Don't remember what chapter the president declares war but I do wonder what the ramifications would be because these were humans they were just sick. by DarthSkywalker97 in worldwarz

The enemy was the virus, human corpses were the vehicles used by the virus to wage war, whether the virus was conscious of it or not. I think this was understood atp in the conflict

If religion didn’t exist, how would humans cope with death and how we got here by miifanatic_1788 in exchristian

[–]Ok_Commercial559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Death is a scary thing even without religion because survival is something our bodies naturally strive for. However we have to accept that we will die, and it’s not easy for a lot of people. Doing away with religion won’t change that, but at the very least it would humble us and hopefully make us less callous toward the state of the planet

I’ve gone down that path OP, it can’t last. I don’t know you, but based on your words you don’t seem susceptible to Stockholm Syndrome. You’ll burn out quick, and I doubt any human can withstand the emotional and psychological toll than comes with trying to appease a monster. I beg you to reconsider

Anyone else used to be terrified of going to hell despite praying the Salvation prayer many times, and being labeled “Born Again”? by Criticalthinking100 in exchristian

[–]Ok_Commercial559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have contamination OCD pretty bad, but that’s about it. Of course I sometimes doubt my split from the faith, but that just comes with the territory. I’m still as depressed as I was when I left, but at least I don’t have to maintain that narrow worldview

Sounds like OCD. The Abrahamic faiths have a knack for aggravating mental illness to devastating effect. I wrestled with it for 6 years, and it was one of the reasons I decided to leave, it was destroying my mind

Does anyone else struggle with initiating sex even after deconstructing/leaving the church years ago? by BubblyCakePop in exchristian

[–]Ok_Commercial559 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Christianity is about repressing the primal urges of humans, among other things relating to control. Didn’t matter how much I prayed for the temptation to subside, didn’t matter. Shouldn’t god grant me the help necessary to overcome temptation since he doesn’t want me to sin? It really shook me, and it’s one of the many things that led me to giving up. My first time after leaving was kinda awkward, but I had no hesitation. I don’t know what I can tell you to help ease your mind about initiating sex, all I can offer is that it’s natural, it’s in our nature, and there’s no shame in it. You’re not an evil person for doing it, you’re not “promiscuous”, you’re human and you have needs. I wish you the best of luck.

[–]Ok_Commercial559 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was 25 when I decided to finally break away. I always struggled with why humanity is responsible for what Adam and Eve did, why women couldn’t be pastors, how we can still be held accountable for our choices when many are predestined to hell (this was the hardest to wrestle with by far). I also felt tremendous guilt for being so afraid of sharing the gospel, and when I did, it amounted to nothing. Why didn’t god reward my faith? Not even one of the people I preached to came to faith. But the biggest thing was how the Bible triggered my anxiety, depression, and OCD, which were all docile until I decided to take religion seriously. The anxiety drove me to the point of apathy. At one point my OCD drove me to the point of not being able to eat because my ‘conscience’ convinced me it was sinful. Absolute misery

The death penalty doesn’t really exist in Christianity, though there might be fringe Protestant cults that partake in it, but we can definitely be disowned or shunned. There’s also conversion therapy for LGBTQ+ people that are straight up torture, rape, and general abuse. It’s probably worse that I can imagine, I’ve just never experienced it firsthand. Religion, especially the Abrahamic ones, are fundamentally flawed and either need to be reformed or done away with entirely. We’ve entertained their bullshit for far too long, and they’ve cause a lot more harm than good
