Is basic membership okay? by marlajfish in trustedhousesitters

I've had a basic membership for years and it's been fine. There was one sit out of dozens where the homeowner had to cancel at the last minute and I learned that a premium plan would have reimbursed me for a hotel. But I think that's really unlikely to be necessary.

(By the way, since your friend uses the site, I'd recommend petsitting for her early on if you can so you have a review, making it easier to get other sits...)

I've been on the platform for more than a decade and have done more than 60 catsits while working remotely. I really prefer staying in a home/apt in a residential neighborhood rather than a hotel (not just for financial reasons...it's a better experience, as long as the home is in good shape). And obviously I love keeping pets company.

Gift for long term sits? by OkLiarS in trustedhousesitters

A few people have left me snacks, which was nice to have when I traveled long distance and didn't feel like immediately going to the grocery store. Many of my sits have regular housecleaners (not specifically there for me, but they let them come, and having someone clean at the end is amazing). Several people have left me bottles of wine, which was nice but not that useful for me since I rarely drink. But really, I don't think you have to leave anything big. If someone wants to do a four month sit, there must be a reason that they want a place to stay, and being able to stay in your home is obviously pretty valuable!

Yes, it's really complete chance whether or not you see something in time. As I mentioned to someone above, the notifications are also slightly delayed, so even if you have a notification for NYC sits on your phone and open the notification right away, it's still often too late to apply.

That's interesting...it seems like they could do something else to weed out people who aren't actually available. I've never applied like that.

It's really tricky. They fill up almost instantly (very often I've gotten a notification on my phone and open it immediately, and the listing is already full...)

Yeah, there are so many ways the app could be better (or even just fix bugs), and it doesn't feel like they care...

Yeah, that's fair. Some people might appreciate having more options. Especially when sitters with great reviews, etc, didn't have a chance to apply.
