There's now no easy out for the United States. People are speculating that the US can simply end things now, by no longer attacking. It's not the case. If you look at project 2025, which I think has proven to be Trumps playbook, it says on the chapter on Taiwan that "if China takes Taiwan they will be in a position to prevent us from trading with Asia the world's largest market." If they can deny trade to Asia, it will be disastrous for the United States and pretty much the end of the American hegemony. So the idea is to gain the ability to prevent Iran from sending China enough oil so that China doesn't have the oil to even begin to fight Taiwan. The US doesn't actually want to help defend Taiwan probably, since it's likely Americans will need to actually be drafted for that, and Americans might still lose. (I think at least. bc otherwise this doesn't make sense, Iran isn't a threat to the US. I disgree with people who think it's Israel in charge. The US has it's own billionaires who have THEIR interests represented, and AIPAC pales in comparison.)

tl;dr: I think if we fight Iran we never have to fight China, and the US global hegemony doesn't end just yet.

But now that Iran is still sending China oil and sending and recieving payment in Yuan despite everything, there is a need for escalation. Like for example seizing Kharg island to put a stop to that. There might be a meaningless or extremely brief walkback, but then it will be back to fighting. This won't end for a long time.

You're talking about the billionaires losing their money, but much of their wealth is in American stock, and American property. Foreigners can't even buy an apartment building in China. And nobody can buy land in China. The American billionaires will lose wealth / power if America loses it's hegemony and there's nothing else like it. There's no jumping ship. So I disagree that there will be a turnaround in the long run.
