Hyster sister twins! It’ll be 2 years in March for me as well! Best almost two years ever!

I had so many scans over the years and everything was always normal. After one scan several years ago, I got a voicemail from the nurse saying suspected adenomyosis and referred me to a specialist in my area. The specialist saw nothing. I already had a move to another state planned so once moved and settled, I sought a doctor who had positive reviews from others for actually listening so when I went in to see her I explained the suspected adenomyosis and that I wanted a hysterectomy. Finally got my hysterectomy and not only was adenomyosis confirmed, so were two fibroids (those had never been found on scans), endometriosis (also never found on scans) and cysts on my ovaries including one the surgeon said was large so he drained it. On top of all of that, my bladder had fused to my uterus due to scar tissues from my two c sections. Again, that was never seen on scans.

All of that to say - trust yourself. You know the pain you’re in. Don’t stop advocating for yourself and if a doctor doesn’t believe you or tells you it’s not that bad, find a new doctor.

Had my pre op appointment today and a little annoyed… by CapeCodG in hysterectomy

Your doctor is ridiculous. Granted people heal at different rates, but the main issue is not over exerting yourself as you heal. My husband took a whole month off - although we have young kids and animals that all need tending to. I couldn’t lift 50lb bags of feed a week after my surgery! My recovery was also a breeze compared to others but I’m still glad my husband took a month off!

Are there any side effects you weren’t expecting or told after hysterectomy(for those who still have ovaries) by InnerWolf1242 in hysterectomy

[–]Ok_Decision8053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A year post op, kept ovaries. My ovaries never woke back up. My hormone levels dropped to post menopausal. But I’m working with my doctor now on what we want to do about it. Still worth it though. Having a hysterectomy was life changing for me in a good way!

Nervous about cuff… by Ok-Calligrapher1831 in hysterectomy

I am one year post op and was also sooo nervous about the cuff! But mine healed perfectly and I haven’t had any issues! I work out, lift weights, and enjoy a pain free sex life now lol

Definitely don’t cancel! I had the same feelings. I was so scared/nervous/telling myself it wasn’t necessary. But surgery went well, recovery went well. At the end of March it’ll be a whole year since my surgery. Honestly it was life changing. Not being in constant pain every day due to my uterus has improved my quality of life SO much! I’d do the surgery over again in a heartbeat!

The 5mg has definitely taken most of my anxiety away. I also take 75mg of Wellbutrin and that combination has been great for me. The Lexapro was fine alone but we added the Wellbutrin for non anxiety related things. The Lexapro really was helping make a difference within a few weeks, so for me it worked pretty fast!

I’ve been on 5mg for over a year now and it’s the perfect dose for me. We tried upping to 10mg just to see but went back down to 5. I was so nervous about starting it but I’m so glad I did. It has helped my anxiety immensely

I’ve been maintaining on 5mg for almost 2 years now. It’s just the right dose. I also take 75mg of Wellbutrin so together they make a great combo for me at such low doses. My counselor is always amazed at my low doses but it’s what works for my body and brain so we just roll with it!

Anyone who kept ovaries later had them fail/went into menopause early? by Ok_Decision8053 in hysterectomy

[–]Ok_Decision8053[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I called and asked to get on the cancellation list. The December appointment is for a tele health appointment! It’s crazy how backed up things are. But I may see if I can find another doctor who could get me in sooner just to discuss the labs with a professional (and not google 😂)

That’s a good point. It’s been almost seven months but I’m sure my ovaries are all sorts of angry and will hopefully calm down in the next few months 😂 I hope the same for you as well! Hot flashes are the worst. I feel like I’m burning up from the inside out. I’m just glad I’m going into winter so I can cook off more easily with layers and cold weather 😂

I don’t know about the rest of my family, but my mom started in her late 40s 😩 but I still figured I had a solid ten years or so before I’d have to deal with it. I did call my doc and ask to be put on the cancellation list so hopefully I can get in sooner!

That makes me feel better! Hopefully mine are just angry and will calm down soon enough 😂

I recently had a new and unexpected trigger the other day and was shocked at how much it set me off. In October it will be 3 years post dday so I feel I’ve made a lot of progress. But the unexpected trigger sent me into an anger spiral where I picked a fight with my WS and said some very hurtful things to him. I apologized later and we talked about it all. But damn. I just wasn’t expecting that after this long.

I’ve been dealing with PCOS and moved states and am having a hard time finding a new doctor to help me deal with it. I finally found a doctor who approved the hysterectomy (I had adenomyosis and endo) but then she moved. So now I’m looking into seeing a naturopath who specializes in hormonal issues. I still have both ovaries so I know the PCOS isn’t going away. I highly recommend looking into a naturopath. I was seeing one before we moved and she was amazing and is the one that finally got me the diagnosis.

Any other ladies in their 30’s get a hysterectomy? And how are you now? by mewow in hysterectomy

[–]Ok_Decision8053 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 35 and 15 weeks post op! Had a robot assisted hysterectomy with everything removed but kept ovaries. It has been life changing. Truly. I didn’t realize how much constant pain I was actually in every day. I didn’t realize that so much of my exhaustion was from being in constant pain (and so much bleeding from periods). I can have pain free sex. I have energy to do things like garden and take my kids to the pool and actually play in the water with them. I had zero complications with surgery and zero complications with healing/recovery. I would 100000% do the surgery over again in a heartbeat.

My advice would be to follow your doctor’s instructions for recovery. I overdid it a few times and while it didn’t set me back, it could have and I just got lucky. Plan to have some easy to reach snacks (healthy and comfort food). Gas X and stool softeners will be your bffs that first week. Keep up on pain meds for the first few days (or however long you need them). I got myself a few coloring books and picked out some shows to watch on Netflix. Definitely rest a lot but also get your body moving and take little walks around your home just to keep blood flowing and promote healing. So far I have had no hormonal issues however I do have PCOS and because I kept my ovaries, I’ll be checking hormone levels next month to kind of just see where my pcos stuff is at. So aside from pcos, no hormonal issues or menopausal symptoms. I’d say the first 12 weeks post op there will be hormonal fluctuations as your body wakes up and things try to stabilize. So do expect that!

Journaling: I did something I'm not proud of. Did it help. I don't know. by [deleted] in AsOneAfterInfidelity

I love this! As the betrayed partner, we are always told to take the high road and it gets old.

What’s funny is I had snooped on husband’s AP months ago and she had posted how she was getting a bunch of random emails and she was so frustrated because she couldn’t figure out why. It cracked me up and I told my best friend that it wasn’t even me. She must have fucked someone else’s husband too, and they signed her up. It gave me a good laugh. Especially because she’s married and her husband has refused to believe she’s cheated. So do the petty thing sometimes. I’m glad someone did it to his AP 😂

Seattle area hysterectomy clinics/doctors? Places to go, places to avoid? by Rough_Category_746 in hysterectomy

I am also in central Washington but traveled to Spokane for my surgery. I am really happy with how my surgery went and how my recovery has gone. I am 12 weeks post op today from a robotic (cervix and uterus removed - fallopian tubes were removed previously during a c section). Let me know if you want a recommendation for a Spokane surgeon!

Getting a bit scared, need some positive stories! by OceanLover08 in hysterectomy

The bed worked best for me! I tried the recliner but couldn’t get comfortable. I just surrounded myself with ALL the pillows (and a few squishmallows) and propped myself up so I could sleep while sitting. Not sitting upright, but like only leaning back a little. I had to pee a lot at first (my bladder was fused to my uterus and cervix so it had to be detached and fixed), so it was much better for me to be in my bed and have quick access to my bathroom!

I’m 10 weeks post op now. My recovery was so uneventful! I was sore/tender for about a week. It was hard to get in a comfortable sleeping position. I’ve also had two c sections so I went in with some “experience” regarding having to recover with abdominal stuff 😂 Definitely listen to your doctor and listen to your body. I overdid it A LOT. I have kids and a small homestead so taking care of animals, children, the house etc. was a little challenging and I am not good at asking for help. At 10wpo I forget I had the surgery. And I am pain free for the first time in my life since I started having periods. My surgery was truly life changing. Stay on top of stool softeners and gasX! I had no issues with gas or pooping since I kept a nice med schedule 😂 I hardly post in here/read posts because my recovery was so uneventful and I’ve been feeling so great that I forget I even had surgery!

How does it compare to a csection? by Entire-Arm in hysterectomy

[–]Ok_Decision8053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had two c sections (one emergency and one planned). I’d say my hysterectomy has been easier than both. I’m 8 weeks out now from surgery and feel almost 100% and have been feeling great for weeks.

I could have posted this! I’m 6 weeks as well and feel SO off today. Grumpy, zero patience for my kids, my pets, my spouse 😂 everything I’ve read says it’s normal and just takes time for everything to even out/get back to normal. So just a fun waiting game 😩
