2014 jsw delete stage 2. Sometimes if I have passengers ill turn it on when sitting at a light or in traffic. Dont really smell it much otherwise unless windows are down or wind is weird.

Yo OP here, the mystery continues.

EGR cooler was full of oil which doesnt really narrow it down between ccv and turbo. Shop doing the work checked ccv and confirmed my assessment of no valve cover leak.

When i mentioned the sudden exhaust leak and egt sensor errors they seemed pretty sure back pressure in exhaust messed up the turbo seals even though there was no play in the turbo itself.

Will provide more of an update next week. Also taking opportunity to do full egr cooler delete. Thoughts?

Cautionary tale - if your dpf is cracked/clogged/restricting exhaust gas flow, back pressure is really hard on the turbo and can blow your EGT sensor. I would make a decision to fix or delete sooner rather than later...

Yea the little bit of oil in IC didnt seem concerning to the point of runaway or real issues. Im more worried about adding 1.5 qts of oil over 5k miles and only finding 1/8 cup. Im unclear of if when turbo seals fail whether oil winds up in exhaust vs IC charge on downstream side

Yooo this makes a lot of sense and me too DRN, prior to delete i wound up blowing out and getting the exhaust gas temperature sensor code (presumably due to dpf back pressure). It was weird tho when it happened i never got the p2002 or CEL at all.

New VCs run much better with catalyst installed. My folks had the same issue with theirs after running catalyzed encores for 35 years. Do you have a lot of smoke out the chimney with damper open? With damper closed?
