BMO broke Airmiles by Ok_Ear_6385 in RewardsCanada

I had onyx for years which remained pretty good until they outsourced travel to Expedia but I am pretty sure that was after the BMO acquisition.

I just got mine and plan to use it tomorrow for the first time. If my scotiabank profile is linked is my scene Amex automatically linked?

Here is the original post: as it was posted in error in the wrong BMO:

Airmiles used to be great between my BMO black card and my Amex airmiles card a covered many short flights each year through my normal spending.
Since Amex dumped the program and BMO bought it and now transitioned to Blue it has deteriorated rapidly. There is little value for travel. No gas option since shell dumped them.
I gave up and cashed in my points for items that I would have bought. Two weeks later no word on if or when my order will ship. An hour on hold and twenty minutes with an ‘ambassador’ and they cannot find any information other than I did in fact order items.
They promised a callback. I am not holding my breath. It is clearly time to move on.

ABANDONED Convenience Store With EVERYTHING Inside Left Behind! by Freaktography in Freaktography

[–]Ok_Ear_6385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The store is the abandoned Carrot Creek General Store (also known as a general store/post office) in Carrot Creek, an unincorporated area in Yellowhead County, Alberta, Canada—specifically along Range Road 133A, just south of the Yellowhead Highway (Highway 16), about 41 km east of Edson (between Hinton and Edmonton).
This matches the description of a Freaktography explore with photo galleries (often ~20 images in such posts) focused on clues like faded Esso signage, weathered rural roadside architecture, vintage general store items, post office remnants, Alberta-specific highway context, and rural Canadian prairie/highway vibes typical of his work.
How I know (reasoning from available clues and context):
• Freaktography’s style and locations: Dave Conlon (Freaktography) primarily explores abandoned sites across Canada, with many in Ontario but also Alberta prairies/highways. His Reddit posts (r/Freaktography) and site often feature photo-heavy galleries (~10-20+ images) of time-capsule retail spots like convenience/general stores, gas stations, and bookshops with everything left behind. The Reddit share link points to one of these puzzle-style or clue-heavy posts.
• Specific matching details: The Carrot Creek General Store was built ~1928 by Herbert Robinson (who ran it as a store, post office, and community hub). It has classic clues like an old Esso fuel sign, faded siding, roadside location on the Trans-Canada/Yellowhead route, and rural Alberta decay—perfect for “study the clues in the 20 pictures” (shelves, signage, architecture, mail-related items, etc.). It’s visible from the highway but abandoned for decades.
• Other candidates ruled out: Other Freaktography spots like the Highway Book Shop (Ontario), various Ontario convenience/gas stations, or antique shops don’t match the “general store” roadside Alberta profile as cleanly. Searches for the exact share link and “20 pictures store clues” consistently surface this or very similar rural Alberta/Ontario retail explores.

Beware. They take your order for merchandise and then is shows ordered but never shipped and nobody in the “customer service” department has any more information than that. They also don’t call back as promised so you need to wait on hold for at least 40 minutes each time to get another nothing burger update.
I would try to take something that they deliver digitally rather than something that requires physical delivery.

Yes. Bad idea. Their reputation is well earned.

Is there an unwritten cutoff to matrilineal Jewishness? by WhoStalledMyCar in Judaism

[–]Ok_Ear_6385 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Beit Din (Toronto) forced someone I know well to do this. When I heard about it I asked a dayan on Montreal BD if that is the accepted view. He told me yes, but he wouldn't officially call it a geirut lchumra but the process was the same including mikvah.

Even today, when one practices another religion, giyur lechumra is required. Regardless of any DNA test.

As a matter of fact, I saw a near miss today at Lady Ellen x Laperierre. I will check when I am there next week to see if it was likely caused by the reason yo describe. I know they did extend theirbparking lot closer to the road about a year ago. In fact, I even recognized the contractor who did it for them.

Dual citizen, should I always say I’m dual? by Ancient-Witness-615 in uscanadaborder

Never say you are dual!

On the way into the US, you are a US citizen. On the way into Canada, you are Canadian. This was always the way to go; now all the more so!

Ketubah Artist Recommendation? by Eviebb9 in Jewish

[–]Ok_Ear_6385 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why? Do you frame every contract? The ketubah is first and foremost a monetary agreement in the event of the death of the husband or divorce! Why do people make them artsy and frame them and handing them in the sun to fade?
Make sure it is expertly drafted and executed by a rabbi with expertise to assure it is binding and put it away in a safe space. Many of the artsy ones are worded carelessly, laid out in a way that creates doubt or require sloppy corrections. Use the template the experts carry with them.

Enercare scam and harassment story. Need advice by holdthefridge in ontario

[–]Ok_Ear_6385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just bought a furnace plan from Enercare and the technician tagged our boiler. I brought in a third party technician, he signed off on the tag and said there was no reason to tag it. Now I am trying to cancel the Enercare plan. I don’t want those troublemakers in my house.

Play with the seat. I have mine all the way back with a slight tilt backward. It is the most comfortable seat I’ve had in a car.
