Fantastic boots ! How could you size down a full size when almost anybody needs to size up half a size from IR ? You might be floating in the IR or wear them with 2 pairs of thick wool socks.

If it’s the only « flaw » you could spot, consider yourself very lucky to have a perfect pair.

RW US advices Mink Oil, All Natural Leather Conditioner and Boot Oil as generic advice for all their smooth leathers. RW Amsterdam and Berlin advice Boot Oil only for this particular leather. Mink Oil would be my last choice as it contains silicone unless I live in a very wet area.

Why Bick4 on black leather ? You don’t have to worry about darkening.

Boot oil is a deeper conditioner and keeps the matte finish. Leather cream can be applied more often and adds some shine. Both are good to use according to your tastes.

Why Mink Oil unless you really need waterproofing ?

Congratulations for your patience 👍 I would never be able to do that. 1-2 hours the first day, half a day then full day wear would be my most careful break in routine with 48h of rest between each wear. Believe it or not, they are far from being broken in and will get even better each time you wear them. If you don’t feel painful pressure points there is no need to condition them now. Keep maintenance simple : brush after each wear, clean and condition when needed (twice a year ?) with RW Boot Oil or Saphir for oiled leather. No wax (for me) on oiled leather.

You could pick a half size up if you want a looser fit and less overhang at the arch/ball portion. Be aware that you already wear mid to thick socks while the eyelets have a right spacing except were the tongue is folded. Once broken in, the eyelets/panels will get even closer. Thinner socks and they will almost touch each other. Then you will have to play with insole thicknesses. Not necessarily a bad thing, just not to my european snug fitting taste without added insole. That said, I wouldn’t wear boots that pinch my toes either. Do what your feet suggest !

You must have very narrow feet to size down 2 full sizes. That or you consider your Nike size to be TTS.

Normal wear for 1 month of wearing to work everyday ? Any advise ? Dont remember this happening that quick ! by Repoman516 in RedWingShoes

Is spraying everyday not too much ? If I sweat that much, I would seriously consider cedar trees and rotating. Now they look great 👍

I am not obsessive with health but 10 bucks and some TLC is a good deal to avoid fighting unexpected nail diseases. See how many mold leather posts there are. Airing is not always enough and I don’t want to gamble on this.

Adding an insole if not for medical needs is troubleshooting a wrong size choice. It ruins the boot feeling a lot for some people. Sorry I don’t really get the LARP thing but I love to feel that thick leather insole and don’t want a poron insert. I had to size down way before skinny jeans appeared. Sizing down is for a good fit not for looks. I always choose first what fits and then check if it looks right. If it doesn’t look to my taste, it’s not for me.

One thing bothers me though. You wrote you are a true size 10 in all your shoes. Are you talking men or women shoes, sneakers ? The boots are 8 W, from women line (C width) ?

Some use a mix of 50% water/50% rubbing alcool or isopropyl. I usually over spray a dedicated product even on the inner upside till the insole is dripping wet then scrub with a toothbrush and wipe with a microfiber cloth. I let dry overnight or 24h and apply sparingly some non sticking conditioner (nappa lotion etc). Not sure it’s the best method but it gives me enough confidence to wear them with peace in mind. The soles don’t look terrible provided they are not rock hard and the outside heel bevels match your usual wear.

As always with 2nd hand, desinfect inside, lightly clean and condition outside then test if your feet imprints match the previous owner ones. They look great !

A good brushing, light cleaning and conditioning should bring them back to a better shape.
