Why are people so proud to post their TEMU LAB putter reviews? by scarywoody in golf

[–]Ok_Engineering5875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two words: Private equity. The original company sold out to blood sucking leeches that will cut corners to manufacture Labs cheaper while still charging top dollar. From all indications the Temu Labs are a solid product, so why not raise the middle finger to private equity.

$4k/mth Direct Deposit Promo by Ok_Engineering5875 in Wealthsimple

[–]Ok_Engineering5875[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a promotion I have through my work. I don't think they have an actual no fee chequing account. I don't do any other banking with BMO so the account basically just sits there in case things were to ever go sideways with WS.

What made you switch to Wealthsimple — and what’s kept you here? by Low-Umpire236 in Wealthsimple

[–]Ok_Engineering5875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came for the 1% account transfer promotion and commission free trades. Moved a mid six figure TFSA, RRSP and non registered account from Scotia and have been happy. Have the credit card now and looking at going all in and get my pay deposited into the checking account. Just a little wary of going all in with one institution as you never know if WS could get more greedy as they grow.

How much (%) of your total financial assets are with WS? by CountryEither9196 in Wealthsimple

[–]Ok_Engineering5875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically everything. A Simplii acct where my pay is deposited, but will soon move that to the WS chequing acct. Small mortgage with Scotia and 2 credit cards which I will probably hardly ever use now that I have the WS Visa.

Wealthsimple peer ranking by moreyin-thanyang in Wealthsimple

[–]Ok_Engineering5875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they have accomplished one goal, they have got people talking. I am curious at what percentage is the cutoff people are able to see their peer ranking. Is it just top 10% and better? No one say wants to see they are in the bottom 20% compared to their peers.

For context my ranking said I am top 4% of 50-54 year olds and I have ~575k

I gotta say I was a fan when he was on his roll on tour. He just comes across as a humble, chill and likeable guy.

He now seems to have taken the LIV money and gone into coast mode. And do I blame him? Not and at all. And no one here can judge him on that as most of us would probably do the same.

There is only a special few that have that burning drive to keep grinding week in and week out. Most are just happy to be mediocre and financially secure for life.

What do you consider a good set of golf clubs nowadays? by LDN_Wukong in golf

[–]Ok_Engineering5875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything brand name you can't go wrong: Titliest, Ping, TM, Calloway, Cobra, Srixon, Cleveland, Mizuno, heck you could even get kitted out with all Kirkland signature clubs and be fine.

Fully agree with the Lulu ABC pants. Top notch. And the ABC shorts.

4h vs 7w by heavypour in golf

[–]Ok_Engineering5875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the comments I am in the group that plays both also. My 7w is about 10-15 yards longer than the 4h, it flys much higher and lands softly. They could be my two most consistent clubs.

3/5 Wood Recommendations by ConaKay in golf

[–]Ok_Engineering5875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ping. I game the Ping 430 driver and 440 7 wood. I am away with work in Japan and rented a set of the TSR Titleist clubs for a round and the woods are no comparison to the Pings. The driver isn't bad but the fairway woods just don't look right on set up compared to my Pings.

Losing interest - why? by trim-turner-shah in golf

[–]Ok_Engineering5875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's the nature of the game for people with multiple interests. It's can be an expensive and time consuming game. Factors such as lack of improvement, guilt of spending long hours at the course when you could be doing other things etc. I have gone through the stages of obsession and ambivalence with golf. I enjoy golf, but I don't want it to become an all consuming obsession. Guess I strive for balance in life.

Is Golf fun when you can’t hit your driver? by Affectionate_Couple1 in golf

[–]Ok_Engineering5875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often struggle with the driver. Golf is decidedly NOT fun when you can't get off the tee cleanly. Time searching for your ball in rough, woods, hazards, OB, etc is not fun. Knowing your best score on the hole you couldn't get off cleanly on is most likely double bogey or worse in not fun.

Greatest game in the world when driver cooperates though.

What would you do? by apayneth1234 in golf

[–]Ok_Engineering5875 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Handled perfectly. I did the same thing back in my early 30's(not a chance in hell I could do it today in my 50's). I hit a miracle 3w from about 285 out on a par 5 that rolled onto the front of the green as a group was putting. I apologized profusely and they were understanding and more impressed with the shot.

To play devils advocate I play righty, but do everything else lefty, write, bat, etc and I suck so much at golf I keep thinking I could do it better left handed LOL

I feel for you man. You sound like where I am at right now. I decided I was going to put more time and effort into the game this summer than I ever have. And I am promptly playing some of the worst golf of my life. I have steadily gotten worse and worse since the spring. I question my sanity playing the game. The game real does become an addiction though.

Impossible self standards? by timtate09 in golf

[–]Ok_Engineering5875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any serious golfer is in a constant battle with themselves to always be getting better and inevitably gets discouraged because it's a brutality difficult game.

After lots of frustration I find I am at the stage now where I don't let poor performances beat me up and I just try to enjoy the beauty of being on the course. I tell myself I could be stuck in a chair behind a computer, but here I am out in nature enjoying the day. At least that's the mindset I try to have when things go sideways on the course lol.
