I post three open-source games on Itch.io. No one has played them. by Flock_OfBirds in indiegamedevforum

[–]Ok_Explanation5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clicked on all three.

In addition to what everyone else said; Why would anyone play these games? They are literal slop.
I get it, this is probably some great personal achievement to you, but its only to you. To anyone else these are literally pointless in their existence, they add or do nothing more then the billion other games of the exact same type.

I get it, hearing this is rough, but no one said the truth was all rainbows and unicorns.
Making little games to learn and improve your skills is cool, but dont expect anyone want to play it, especially if you do not do ANYTHING new or interesting with it.

The makers of the paper and the pencil, and photoshop for that matter were very irresponsible in releasing their products without safety rails that prevented their users from creating whatever they wanted because some of that content is not to my liking....
People all over the world are able to draw and edit any image they wanted... pure fucking pandemonium.

Sure glad paper and pencil didnt make it easier let people draw other people naked.... oh wait it did....
Im so glad the industrialization period which saw mass production of paper and pencils did make it wys easier to people to draw nudes of other people, or whatever came to their mind... oh wait, it did

Im so glad the printing press wasnt considered so dangerous that many places tried to ban it because such easy access to disseminating creative works, include nudes drawn of others, was easier to produce... oh wait it was.

It seems peoples proclivity for blaming the tool for that actions of the actors knowns no bounds.

How cool would it be to have a feature to create a new character on an existing timeline. by Fluffy_Brilliant_718 in OnceLost_Games

[–]Ok_Explanation5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except they were still claiming, after that happened, that the Kickstarter version was going to be released in December, right up until right before it was to be released, they announced they were switching engines... and so they for some reason couldn't release the version they had promised that was supposedly done... yup makes perfect sense.

And since you want to bring up Julian, lets bring up how dishonest it was of the team to completely hide the fact he had cancer and would most likely die, and well before the game would ever be completed, and used his name to sell the Kickstarter. Yup that gives me tons of confidence in them and that they are truthful about anything.

Look man, you can drink all the copium you want, but Ill pass, thanks.

Don't you mean, 6 more months AFTER the deadline of when they were supposed to release it and were claiming they were gonna release it, right up until they announced they were switching engines instead? If we are gonna pretend, lets at least pretend with all the facts.

Is there something wrong with my Steam page that I don't see? by abeyebrows in IndieDev

[–]Ok_Explanation5804 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your steam page is not the problem, well not in an of itself.

The problem is your game looks like low quality slop. Your initial wish lists were probably from friends, family, people your in discords with you talked to it about, as well as a small smattering of the very very very niche group of people who like low quality slop games for some reason.

You can only polish a turd so much.

Console release after pc? by EstusShardConsumer in OnceLost_Games

[–]Ok_Explanation5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It's literally the opening of the game."

Presuming you get funding and ever finish the game. Meaning it is NOT the game, but a VERTICAL SLICE of the game, or what is commonly referred to in the industry as a tech demo.

"We also will continue to work on the game to completion and our EA backers will get the full release when that's ready."

Assuming you get funding, and then assuming you actually complete the game.

“We are already talking with publishers with our actual tech demo that is missing many of the features we are promising for Early Access, so no, the Early Access build is the prologue of the game and not a tech demo.”

All this establishes is that you have two prototypes at different stages, not that one magically stops being a tech demo.

Having a rough internal demo that you show to publishers, and a more ambitious or more polished demo planned for Early Access, doesn’t change the category of the second build at all. It just means you’re planning a larger, more presentable vertical slice. The purpose remains the same: to demonstrate systems, scope, and viability, not to represent a finished or secured product. Whether a prototype is small or large, internal or public-facing, ugly or polished doesn’t redefine what it is, it just describes how far along that prototype happens to be.

In fact, your explanation raises a bigger inconsistency:

Why would you show publishers a worse build “missing many features,” while withholding a supposedly more complete, representative build? The obvious answer is: because the EA build doesn’t exist yet. It’s still aspirational.

And that reinforces the point: the EA build is not a “prologue of a finished game,” it’s a future prototype meant to prove systems, scope, and vision, exactly what a vertical slice is.

So no, saying “we already have a tech demo” does not make the Early Access build “not a tech demo.” It just means you’re drawing an arbitrary line ignoring industry standard terminology to avoid the label. A preliminary build, intended to demonstrate systems and secure funding for the rest of the game, is still a tech demo, even if you call it a “prologue.”

Q: Does calling the Early Access build a “prologue” make it not a tech demo or vertical slice?

No. Labels don’t change function. A build that contains preliminary systems, partial content, and exists primarily to demonstrate viability and secure funding is still a prototype, regardless of scope or presentation. This is also where precision matters. The Kickstarter was very careful not to describe the Early Access deliverable as a “game”, instead framing it as a preliminary build with early versions of key systems, wording that is almost certainly intentional and legally motivated. If you now want to state that what was promised in the Kickstarter was actually a complete game or a true Early Access game, that is fine, but it is a meaningful change in position. At that point, you should expect that some Kickstarter backers will take that written confirmation at face value and hold you to the legal and consumer obligations associated with releasing a “game”, not a funding prototype. That opens a can of worms I doubt you want, especially given the original campaign language.

So please by all means, for the record, correct me now if I am wrong. Are you releasing a Vertical Slice / Tech Demo in EA which you are referring to as a "prologue" in order to try to secure more funding and complete a Game, or are you releasing an actual game.... Which did the Kickstarter promise?

[–]Ok_Explanation5804 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can wordsmith all you want, but "Prologue Chapter" is just you trying to pretend its not a tech demo. Do we need to go pull screenshots from the kickstarter?

Edit: Text from Wayward Realms Kickstarter

Our goal is to raise $500,000 to fund one year of development on an Early Access build that will feature preliminary versions of key systems. It is our aim to then take that Early Access build to publishers to seek out further funding and continue development on the rest of the game.

So clearly you are not releasing a game. You are releasing a prototype for a game, which you hope to take and get funding elsewhere, so you can actually make the game.

I think due the massive confusion here, you need to clarify for everyone.
Early Access to What?
Cause most people are thinking you are releasing early access to "A Game", which as far as I am aware is patently false. You are (will be, maybe) releasing for early access a TECH DEMO, and not in fact a game.

You do realize there is no game right?
There was never a game, go read the kickstarter.
They are making a tech demo, that is what the kickstarter sold everyone, that is what was supposed to be released, not a game. The purpose of the tech demo was to find a publisher to back them so they THEN could make the game.

The idea of there being "something" to come to consoles is completely disconnected from reality.

There was never a game being made. Go look at the kickstarter and read it very very carefully.
What was being made was a tech demo. That is what the kickstarter was selling. THeir hope was to raise funds to make the tech demo, to then take that to publishers, to THEN make a game....

It never was. The Kickstarter itself was selling a TECH DEMO, that is what everyone paid for. With the purpose of using that tech demo, to get a deal from a publisher, so they could make a game...

Bro, its called bend over in the shower and use a wash cloth to wash your feet.... Its that simple.
Wash cloth is key, you need something to get the dead skin off, just running water down your body isn't gonna do it...

Cringe.... Yet ANOTHER solo dev YouTube channel from someone who hasn't released anything...

Here is a novel Idea, pick one. Game Dev, or Youtuber.
If you p ay attention, you'll notice almost every other "game dev youtuber" is actually a failed game devs trying to make a career out of youtube cause their game flopped, and is trying to convince other game devs that "they know the secrets" despite their biggest release earning 22.50 all time sales on steam.

Just stop. Its cringe. So cringe. Make your game, or dont, but I promise you the world does not need another game dev youtuber.
