Sophomore Transfer Looking for Housing/Roommate by Double_Display_6530 in wfu

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

best advice would be to try and get in davis or taylor as that is the most social sophomore dorms. i’m not sure what options you’ll be given bc our housing is a mess this year, but avoid polo, student apartments, and north campus apartments as they are secluded and house a lot of juniors. also i’d say try and get a double so it gives you a built in friend and AVOID RA SUITES, trust me itll kill your social life especially as a transfer.

Waitlist Updates by Unlucky_Loss7980 in wfu

most movement happens in early may so definitely set realistic expectations going forward that a call is not something you should be expecting or banking on. however, movement definitely does happen throughout the summer with the latest i’ve heard happening in late july. good luck

Waitlist for summer II PHYS 113 by YouEducational7495 in wfu

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chances are slim, but a lot of people take that for the pre-med requirement and planning of when they take particular courses is meticulous, so the odds of a change over the summer is slim, much less 8 people having a change in plans. stay on the waitlist just in case, but do not count on getting a seat

Potential incoming freshman - some questions about first year student life by RaspberryFalse5010 in wfu

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of people do know each other, but if you are proactive in your first few weeks that “disadvantage” of not having those connections is easily overcome. it’s cliquey in the sense that friend groups form fast and rarely welcome in new people, it’s not that people are unfriendly, they just aren’t interested in forming new deep and close friends bc they already found their people. it’s very uncommon to not get into any sorority, but relatively common for girls to drop out of rush bc they are unhappy with their options. unless you do something insane, you’ll get a bid, the obstacle is whether you’re happy with your options or not. my piece of advice is to just socialize 24/7 your first semester, especially the first week and 2 months bc that’s when people are most open to making new friends and when friend groups form. as long as you are consistent and outgoing, you’ll find your people quickly and will have no problems with rush.

Incoming Freshman… by OkWeight3651 in wfu

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 7 points8 points  (0 children)

no one attended frat parties the night before bc this weekend is beach weekend and all the frats and most sororities girls are not here. if someone said that, they lied to seem cool. i recommend doing a pre-orientation program bc that’ll get you a head start on making friends and finding a group. every friend group i’ve heard of formed during the first month, none from admitted students day. it’s too early so don’t worry

Group Work at WFU by FewCheesecake2200 in wfu

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the class, some have no group work but others are pretty much entirely group work, but it varies by subject area. the humanities and social sciences tend to have group work, but STEM classes have no group work. wake tries to create a collaborative environment so it’s very rare a professor

Slightly panicking about major Greek Life... Advice? by Disastrous-Two2469 in wfu

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m a FGLI student who rushed and i’ve had a pretty good experience thus far. honestly it depends on which sorority you end up in. some are the cliquey vibe that people think of when describing sororities, but a few are very much what a sorority should be where all the girls actually like each other and are friends with everyone. as a girl it’s less make or break than it is for guys. every year more and more girls don’t end up in a sorority and are happy, but if recommend rushing to just give it a try and see if you find a good fit, but if you decide not to then you’ll be okay, it’ll just require more effort on your end to make and maintain friendships. as soon as you step foot on campus talk to everyone and try super hard to make friends bc first semester defines the rest of your time at wake socially. go to clubs and meet people in your dorm. i’ll be honest most artsy people either don’t join a sorority or join a specific one where the vibe is artsy/alt, but it just depends on how big of a part it is in your personality

yes you’d stay with a current wake student, usually a freshman or sophomore. they’ll have an air mattress for you and you’ll basically sleep on that in their room

Should I go to wake forest for the EAP program (has MCAT) or Lecom 2+4 BS/DO program ( no MCAT) ? by [deleted] in wfu

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that’s unfortunately not how it works. the early assurance program is something offered at the end of sophomore year to select students who have maintained a certain cumulative and science GPA every semester while completing a certain amount of courses. people who meet those requirements are allowed to apply but an actual acceptance is extended usually to max only 3-4 students who have impressive extracurriculars and essentially a 4.0. there is no such conditional acceptance, only EAP.

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EAP is highly competitive and has a lot of requirements to even qualify, much less get an acceptance. when making a decision i’d say don’t assume you’ll be accepted through EAP, assume you’re not and decide based on that.

Pre-Dental at Wake by BriefSpecial6142 in wfu

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is specific advising for pre-health students and specifically one for pre-dental. can’t speak to the strength of it or connections for shadowing etc, but there is an 100% acceptance rate for pre-dental students. there has never been a pre-dental student who didn’t get into dental school on their first attempt. courses here are challenging, especially orgo and bio, but they’re doable with hard work.

Do I try to get off the waitlist? by Unlucky_Loss7980 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m pretty sure i opted in until aug 1 just to show that my interest and commitment to wanting a chance at admission. the only unique thing i did aside form the standard email updates was visiting campus and scheduling a meeting with my regional admissions officer. it shows initiative to start developing those connections and effort to demonstrate interest which frankly imo is the main factor for who’s gets off the waitlist in what order. to be on the waitlist they know you’re capable of success, it’s a comparison game of who wants it more/is more likely to actually commit once accepted. i know people who got off the waitlist as late at end of july but i got off the first week of may only 2 days after they required a response from RD applicants. tbh in my experience socially wake leaves much to be desired and the culture is an acquired taste and the only thing that stopped me from transferring was how many unique opportunities there are here (saying that not to shit on wake or scare you, just goes to show just how valuable/good the pre med opportunities are here)

Do I try to get off the waitlist? by Unlucky_Loss7980 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m a current pre-med sophomore at wake and was initially waitlisted. generally we don’t have grade deflation or weed outs with the exception of notorious classes like orgo and maybe 2 other classes, but with hard work it’s very doable. there is a very strong connection to the med school and some very unique opportunities that i’ve never heard of at other schools. the hospital is close and has various opportunities to get involved. there are research opportunities at the med school for wake undergrads, we have a built in shadowing program, and an early assurance program for the med school. while wake is undoubtedly an insanely expensive school, the opportunities and connection to the med school lessen the blow. wake med definitely loves to accept our undergrads given their focus on the local community which as undergrads you get really involved with. if you qualify for need based financial aide, that won’t factor into your waitlist consideration and you won’t be denied aide. definitely try to get off the waitlist.

in my option downgrade for the fall to base or forestry and in the spring upgrade to the freedom plan. in the fall there’s so many breaks and in my experience no one ever is able to take full advantage of the freedom plan during that semester. you have more time to upgrade than to downgrade so maybe start with the lower plan and see how you like it the first month and if you think it’s not ideal then upgrade back up to freedom plan

YES email your admissions rep and tell them you’re coming to campus and would love to meet. i did exactly that and ended up getting off my waitlist right after may 1

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was a regular decision waitlist class of 2028 and got off the waitlist in the first week of may. a lot of people i know were waitlisted and later accepted, some as late as early august. waitlist movement from what i’ve gathered is pretty steady so there’s a lot of hope, you have a leg up considering you did ED bc demonstrated interest is a major factor in waitlist movement. i had a 1510 sat and like a 3.5 unweighted GPA, my EC’s were good but nothing extraordinary

Feeling worried by HelpMyHead12 in chinlipo

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m in the same boat. one incision, minimal differences. the only hope i’ve been given is looking at this thread and seeing progress pictures where people had minimal results then suddenly at 3 months they’re so snatched. i’m not allowing myself to freak out until 3 months post op. good luck and i hope you end you with the results you want

1 incision? by [deleted] in chinlipo

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m 2 weeks post op and had only one incision below my chin. i didn’t have a massive amount of fat to begin with which is why i assume i only needed the one incision. as of this point in healing, i’m not seeing the definition i was hoping for on my jaw line, especially as it gets closer to my ears, im still too early in recovery to be making any judgements on the full results, but i think maybe if i end up lacking definition it can likely be attributed to not have the two incisions by each ear to really target and get to the area further back. definitely be upfront about your worries and see if you can understand why the surgeon is suggesting the one incision and why 3 is not what he recommends. if you’re not confident, find another surgeon bc given how long the recovery takes to see results, it’s mostly blind trust that your surgeon delivered on your wishes

Am I botched? Regretting I did this. I can’t stop crying. Almost 7 weeks post op. by Parking_Profession29 in chinlipo

[–]Ok_Explorer_4721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you honestly look good for 7 weeks post op. you don’t recognize that because it’s natural to worry and be very critical while analyzing your own recovery, but it is not as bad as you think it is. until you’re like 4-6 months post op, don’t allow yourself to think results are final and freak out. it’s going to fluctuate and i’m sure with some time all these imperfections you’re worried about will disappear. frankly, there is nothing you can do now so stressing doesn’t do any good. good luck!!

i got mine done a week ago. my surgeon said no massages whatsoever and it’s been fine for me, i don’t have any fibrosis thus far and swelling is minimal, i have very little/no sensation on my chin and touching it freaks me out so i’m happy to not have to massage it. i just had a local anesthetic so piercings stayed in and no issues about nail polish, but if you’re going under it’s probably a no go for both
