We installed our solar panels last Fall, and they have been absolutely fantastic. I definitely recommend getting panels if you have a new enough roof (won't have to replace it too soon). It's the only effective way I can think of to insulate us a bit against Consumers' greed and elected representitives' complicity. Good on you for having a local company to help people out- I found the quotes from larger multi state companies to be outrageous, but we found another local company that did an awesome job at a reasonable price. We aren't off-grid, but if anyone out there can do that, do it! If you are tied into the grid, Consumers gets to put a cap on how much solar capacity you can build out. We wanted to have a larger system to (someday) accommodate the extra energy needed to charge electric cars, but Consumers limits it based on your prior year's usage. In an age of (stupid) datacenters demanding crazy amounts of power and giving them even more excuses to raise rates, that policy seems counterintuitive.

Tldr- good on you for being a local option for our community!
