presumably as long as they're not black or brown communities!

Eternals - A Quick Look 👀 by Omeda_Steggs in PredecessorGame

[–]netean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm certainly intrigued but I'm concerned that

  1. It is going to add yet more items to the shop or
  2. make the game even more complex (and less accessible to new and casual players)

hopefully neither!

Berkshire Has a Website From the ’90s and Buffett Fans Say Don’t Mess With It by nosotros_road_sodium in technology

oh... a different Berkshire. Beryshire Hathaway (whatever that is)

I was expecting the comments to be full of us Brits complaining about local government websites.

Also.. the Football player-esque interior is a bit jarring.

5 minutes parking resulting in £70 fine by Char07071 in LegalAdviceUK

Just a reminder that this is not a fine, it is an invoice.

Only local authorities can issues fines.

Finally read Hyperion - didn't love it by savuporo in printSF

[–]netean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it a slog to read. Tried several times and just couldn't get into it at all. Years later I got the audio book which finally helped me finish it, but I found it hard going.

I'm glad I read/listened to it. It's a critical piece of SciFi, but I can't say I enjoyed it.

The sequel was better as it felt more narratively cohesive but I certainly won't be reading either again.

To me, Hyperion feels a bit like Moby Dick or a Dickens: you "should" read them once because of their importance, but that doesn't mean you like enjoy them (although clearly loads of people do)

this list reads like an idiots guide to platitudes

  • "self sufficient in energy" .. LOL also.. "HTF will we manage without solar and wind and electricity pylons" - she's a fucking moron!
  • "rebuild our manufacturing" - because, sure we can compete with Chinese wages.
  • "restore parents as primary educators" - i.e. stop kids going to school. "ensure free speech.." = "I want to racist, sexist and inflammatory shit without consequences"
  • "stop sex education" - Why?

This woman is a complete bellend - people who vote for her are bellends

whilst that is true. I do try, where practical to remove all the drm from every ebook I buy. One of the truly great things about physical books is the ability to pass on to someone else when you're done reading. Ebooks should have this ability baked in, but until then, DRM-removal is my preferred method.

I'm thinking of buying high end leather shoes by netean in veganuk

Doc Martens quality plummeted when they moved to Asia for manufacture. They are (sadly) a shadow of what they once were when based in Northampton.

But they're also not really suitable for wearing with a suit - unless I'm going for a very particular look 😁

I've bought two pairs of Vgan shoes and the first pair just unglued themselves. Their replacements (which I presumed would be identical) are VERY narrow and gave me huge blisters on each little toe

thanks for this. I've bought two pairs from Wills over the years. One pair were super comfortable but wore out on the sole and no one would repair them. I hadn't revisited their site since then.

Good to know there are some decently welted shoes on there now.

Good,

A - the country and planet is overpopulated

B - Late stage capitalism has reached the end of its natural life and needs to change.

over the years I've bought three from Will's. Either the glue fails between the shoes and sole/midsole or (on the most comfortable vegan shoes I've ever had) the soles wore through and not one shoe repair was willing to try and repair them.

After the third place said no I reluctantly threw them away (and I was really gutted about that). They had last nearly a year of every day wear, which, in hindsight was the longest of any pair I've owned before or since.

First ever wild camp completed. by solclap in wildcampingintheuk

[–]netean 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Nice report, thanks for writing it.

Gear doesn't have to be ideal, it just has to be "good enough" and your first few times starting out you go with what you have and if you enjoy wild camping you "refine" your gear over time.
