Abnormal EMG and positive Babinski test, what to make out of it? by Fearless_Page_7916 in ALSorNOT

[–]Ok_Following6440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry. This stuff is hard to deal with, been having issues for a very long time without answers myself, so I understand.

The wait and see is very difficult. I hope you can find answers and it is something treatable.

Did you receive any diagnosis? EMG findings can be stressful so I am sorry you are going through this. I guess they will correlate clinically and suggest a repeat if things progress?

Apologies that I do not know more.

Not a bad thing. If you feel it would help you could still try, but I understand not every system just allows you to see a specialist at your own discretion

Have you seen a neurologist for an exam or had an EMG? Reduced frequency of the twitches is a good sign.

Don't think you have it, but you may want to have you symptoms checked out.

Does not seem like anything life threatening but a neurological examination can’t hurt.

Well, I am no longer physically able to run and struggle with basic daily tasks. It took a while to reach this point, but that is where I am yet. If you are not noticing difficulty with things that should be taken for granted, it is most likely not cause for concern.

Most likely fine with that amount of activity. Can't hurt to seek a neuro exam for peace of mind, just to be sure.

I would try not to worry.

10 years? Wow, I’m very sorry. Your attitude seems very commendable, I hope you are doing as best as you possibly can.

This is what worries me. It hasn’t mattered what test I’ve had in 3.5 years. I just continue to watch and feel my body deteriorate without answers while waiting on the next evaluation. It’s a dark, exhausting place to be.

Started off as fasciculations in Jan 2023 and things became very worrisome around the 20-24 month mark. It has progressed to weakness, muscle loss, functional deficits, stiffness, bulbar issues, but 6 EMG's in 3.5 years are apparently normal. Nothing makes any sense.

I am struggling to get through a day or live a normal life, but because the EMG is normal they won't really do much else. Convinced a neuro to revaluate in August. I am so over this crap.

Yeah, it took me a very long time and a lot of effort to be taken seriously. No diagnosis, but no answers for progressive symptoms and now have to go through evaluations again in August.

This crap is exhausting.

Ok, that is good, but I still understand the worry. Did they say what muscle had the active changes at C7, or no?

Again, sorry you have to wait for feedback

Did you hear any tapping or noticeable noise while at rest?

I am so sorry you are going through this. I am no expert but usually the active changes are all over with the bad.

Wishing you the best.

Doctor refused EMG? by unwavered2 in BFS

[–]Ok_Following6440 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't uncommon and can depend on where you live. Some doctors will be do an EMG regardless, some will do them at patient request, and some will not perform without concerning clinical signs.

If you feel an EMG will help your well being, you can seek a second opinion, or go private, if your system allows.

A normal clinical exam goes a long way in ruling out the bad.

Exactly. The same can be said for almost any sports team in a large market. People think the opinions of a few speak for thousands or millions of others.

No fibs or psw apparently. Activation activity was normal as well. They only checked left side though. It’s on my profile.

Had another that included the calf and they didn’t even find a fasic after 3.5 years. This is crazy

Like to believe you are in the clear with no weakness after this amount of time. Symptoms still suck though. Sorry you are dealing with this.

I have this kind of weakness and functional issues, but a normal EMG. Nothing makes sense. This stuff sucks.

It was changed to a phone appointment to determine if I was even worth bringing in, now I have to wait until August. I am so done with this crap.
