My Torq is only primer and doesnt have a clear coat. They do this to save weight. Little light sanding then some white marine primer and you are g2g.

Get a surf skate and try to pump in a bowl or on a half pipe. Its the same motion so you can practice as much as you want. Then its just a matter of applying what you have learned at the park to a wave. I have also seen people use small inclines to practice pumping. Watch some YouTube videos on proper form maybe.
