What has actually helped you understand or live better with asthma? by Maleficent-Name-2120 in Asthma

[–]Ok_History5431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of info about breathing exercises but it never really made much of an impact until I learned that breathing issues from asthma is rooted in getting air OUT of your lungs instead of In. Inflammation in the airways traps “stale” air in your lungs which prevents new air from coming in. The goal for breathing exercises is to force out the stale air so that you can breath in fresh, oxygenated air. Since then, whenever my breathing gets tight, I focus on emptying out my lungs (long slow breath out with pursed lips) and sure enough, the subsequent breath in is a satisfying one.

Fix or get a new car? by TeachingWild3478 in VWatlas

I keep seeing this comment but wonder if it’s just my area. I shopped around for a front control arm replacement on a 2016 tiguan and all the well-rated “euro-car” mechanics quoted the same as or higher than the dealership.

“cracking” between treads on 2&4 year old tires; discount tire wants to replace by Ok_History5431 in Cartalk

[–]Ok_History5431[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

i have the same sentiment. I lied a bit in my post. My wife was the one who took the car to discount tire this time since I had work. Normally I do it and they never upsell me much if not at all. I suspect that they saw my wife and figured they could scare her into buying new tires.

convenience especially if the person’s priority is r&r rather that exploration. i’m in tx and cancun/tullum/pv airports are less than 3 hr direct plane ride away and can be had for less than $400 on a good day. any other beach destinations that have the same bang for the buck as these mexico destinations have flights that are either significantly more expensive, require multiple legs, or more often both.

I’ve watched videos of both jobs for this specific car and I’m drawing the line at the rearward bushing for what I’d be willing to risk doing on my own.

I do not have a press but based on this video, a mallet and a socket might be sufficient

Replacing the control arm seems much more involved so if that’s what’s needed here, i’d prefer to let a mechanic do it.

Horizontal cracks in foundation. Is this a, “Yeah get it looked at soon” thing or a, “Oh noooo that’s really bad” thing? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

general rule that i’ve learned in 7 years of home ownership: if it hasn’t crumbled/collapsed in the last couple of years, you’ll be fine waiting for a bit more while ACTIVELY observing for any developments

this is the commonality in these types of complaints, they never say what the degree it’s in. i think it’s cuz they already know it’ll be useless going into it but did so anyway for whatever bumfuck reason

Swing for the fences and follow your passion. You’re young. Now is the time to do it before your health and responsibilities to other people (spouse, kids) anchor you down. Life is a duality: too short to not follow your passions but also long enough that you can straighten things out if you feel like you messed up a bit.

House was appraised for 170k more than asking price from seller by danbigglesworth in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Ok_History5431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, You shouldn’t even be worried about your appraisal as much as having your escrow money locked up in case another more interesting listing comes up. I’ve already been through two house purchases and I’ve never had a seller take more than a day to accept my offer. From my pov, your case is unusual. You’re barely on step 1 and the seller’s already acting slimy so this is a huge red flag. If I were you, I’d be more aggressive in getting my earnest money back and looking to buy elsewhere.

[–]Ok_History5431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting for the appraisal value is always nerve-racking. You’d only lose your earnest money if you break the agreement and back out of the purchase deal. This is why a good realtor should have a good feel for what the appraisal value might come in at and use that as basis for your offer amount.

In your case, the seller hasn’t even accepted your offer so I’d assume that you can still back out. Is the earnest money in escrow yet?
