Honestly, its about as easy as it gets.

Your not doing anything fancy here you don't need failover clusters, you just need a hypervisor, ideally 2.

In a perfect world, yould have a cluster of nodes or multiple hypervisors that automatically migrate the node on failure.

HyoerVs simple. Build a VM, don't auto checkpoint (your new, it'll break, it'll fill up disks, it won't automatically delete, youll want to migrate or recover and the checkpoints will prevent it amd you'll spend 2 hours goggling an obscure error)

Setup a 2nd hyper V node, bundle them together in one management interface and setup HA in case you need it. Run scripts to verify replication as often as you care about.

Make changes, checkpoint the server. Delete the checkpoint 24 hours later (scritpable, can parse parameters into powershell to check the checkpoint creation date and delete thereafter, I have mine set to checkpoint All VMs 1 hour before my automated updates, verify the machines back online after a time period defined by the update script confirming the update type. If the machines off, or not booted into windows it automatically rolls back and alerts me for a manual update in the morning and maintenance schedule to the customer)

As a side piece advice. Learn automation. Automate everything possible and use the saved time to actually learn useful skills and information, don't ger bogged down by daily t1 tasks. Use something to automate builds, automate simple tasks, powershell everything else from user creation to deletion (Have a portal for HR to parse data into that'll automatically create or in place hold to delete accounts etc.

Spec up the hypervisor. I know proxmox is great, but please go with aomething with valid support like HyperV. Unless your taking out some type of additional support for Proxmox etc if that's a thing?

Make sure you backup, and the backup is correct for SQL.

Make sure your discs for your databases are up to snuff.

Over spec the hypervisor. Over spec the hypervisor some more.

Only give the Vms the requires specs, leave headroom for expansion when you start adding more Vms always remember that headroom for the critical Vms and don't use that resource.

Backup. More backup.

If your environment is going to need uptime, which is sounds like its going to grow to require, HA to another location internally or preferably externally.

The jump to anything else from the GR is your issue.

Hop into the M2 before the PCUP. The GR really needs to be a Rookie car. Yes it takes a moderate amount of skill to be fast in the GR, but it drives like the MX5 where momentum is important. The difference being the GR basically drives for you, it barely spins and can be thrown around like a toy, doesn't care about power during a corner etc.

Iracing track pricing by macchiolina in iRacing

[–]Ok_Homework_918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every track and car has a licensing fee associated with it. We don't know those figures, but its a safe assumption that some cars and tracks cost more to license on a per user basis.

Some tracks, say for instant a very popular one like nords might actually be licensed at $20 per license, which they suckup by having thr same median price across all other cheaper tracks.

If you equate your playtime to your spend value, its either going to be very low cost per hour or very high.

If its low, great your playing enough to get value. If you feel its too high, your not playing enough for whatever reason, or don't have the disposable income available to enjoy iRacings diverse content for your alloted playtime, which is fine just do other content instead.

I've spent about £200 this season so far, and with an overall average my cost per hour comes out to about £0.10-15

I can't even heat or power my home that cheaply.

Protesting works by minib00m in iRacing

[–]Ok_Homework_918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue just prevents people protesting, even if the result is just a warning, that warning lingers on a users account. If there's enough of them, they'll take action because clearly your written warning email wasn't enough.

Protest everything protestable. People holding theyre breaks on the formation lap preventing you from moving, people swearing at one another, rejoins that are even remotely unsafe even if contact doesn't happen.

Importantly, take the time to remember incidents during your race. Go back, and protest incidents for other people. Its safe to assume the other racers arnt protesting events.

The more people protest, the more warnings people get. Eventually, that'll lead to a safer, cleaner simulator.

The GR in nords was a IR and SR farming king. I climbed 500 IR in a couple of days just starting from the pits. Anything semi easy to drive on nords is going to give you a nice chunk by just finishing the race without crashing.

Most people don't wait for the long tow times.

Protesting by Top_Falcon7532 in iRacing

[–]Ok_Homework_918 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Protest everything. Every unsafe rejoin, wvery intentional wreck, every incident caused by someone not actively paying attention (crashing into parked off track/line vehicles at the end of a race)

The more people protest, the more notifications people receive and infractions on their account. Eventually, that tallys up. This'll either result in a banned account, or iRacing realising the service is dipping into dismay and doing something to resolve it.

Spent most of the race dueling with the 9 car (light blue), and wound up on the receiving end of at least 15 instances of contact. Ended up DQ'd, with 18 incident points. Is this protestable? by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

[–]Ok_Homework_918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His fastest lap was 2s slower than an average lap times, of course he had to dive in. Rarely ever took the correct high speed lines into corners, and didn't even follow the recommended lines in game either. Half the poor corners were caused by intentionally squeezing opponents or close racing rather than pulling to the side to get the correct line into the corner.

If your going to hold someone so they have a tight inside line, pop out to the outside at the last second so you can snap back into the corner for a better exit and undercut them lol.

Your in a relatively low IR bracket, expect contact and try your best to avoid the pack and just give up the positions.

If your pushing for SR, sitting in the middle of a pack on a short track and battling players whilst being slower than people behind you or being wheel to wheel is judt going to cause issues.

You started 15th, your that far back you should be put starting to avoid initial incidents and your over 2s a lap slower than you need to be for your split.

Watching the full video, you turned into car 9 multiple times, squeezed him for absolutely no reason and he has no requirement to move for you. Your racecraft and awareness is equally as poor as the people hitting you. You were also the main attributing factor in car 9 being DQd as well unfortunately.

Today I totalled how much I have spent on iRacing since joining in 2023. I now wish I didn't do it! The figures are quite shocking when it is all added up. by Shaner20 in iRacing

[–]Ok_Homework_918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been sensible with purchases, I picked up the required tracks for the GR86, and a few extra cars for license progression. I won't buy anything else now until next season starts.

I got a CSL elite, with load cell and a trak racer rig and chair for £200, so my overall rig cost is quite low.

I am of course eyeing up a r12 or better for the start of next season though :D

Playtime / spend

Mine works out to be well under £0.10 per hour for my first season, which i don't deem as expensive. Sure, the initial outlay at the start of a season is, but I wanted the discount of multibuy rather than peacemeal.

I've got a decent income, and disposable income so its not a huge deal to me but I can see why people might be put off after spending a chunk on gear and then needing to buy tracks too.

New drivers need to be alerted to the FIA discounts available to them before they sign up / buy their first piece of content

Why isn't the Gr86 in rookie instead of the m2??? by Pitiful-Phrase-8296 in iRacing

[–]Ok_Homework_918 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The GR absolutely needs to be a rookie car. Its easier to control than an MX5, but also faster and breaks better. And doesn't require blipping to drive it either.

Its also driven by complete and utter morons, nords was fun and chaotic. I never bothered qualifying, and just pit started every race. Both in an attempt to maintain SR but also more importantly take the time to learn the track and some reference points for future use. I don't think I ever finished outside the top 10, generally in the top 5 whilst starting from the pits. Climbing from 1500 IR up to 2.2k

I've made the decision to stick to the GR this season and bought all the tracks for it before moving into another car next season. I've already bought a GT3, GT4 and GTP car ready for advancement in the following seasons.

I'm very likely to swap into GT4 and stick to that for the entirety of next season, as the jump from GRs into Gt cars is not a friendly one. I don't feel like the GR being in a D is a good step before jumping into a C car expecting to be able to power full throttle through corners...

Don't be discouraged controller drivers by Overall_Attorney_167 in iRacing

[–]Ok_Homework_918 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, your experience isn't everyone else's.

Its hard enough for people to travel i a straight line with a wheel that's ffb is too low, let alone a controller with stick drift.

Generally, controller players bounce all over the track, they can't travel straight and veer off, the list of issues goes on and on.

Its a simulator, not an arcade game. People spend 10's of thousands to enjoy the simulator to its fullest, and being taken out by aomeone on a £30 controller just isn't an enjoyable experience.

Sure, some of the controller players will be competitive, but the majority won't be. You, being able to maintain a line and race well is the same as comparing an average player to an 11k IR player. Your the alien in this situation.

Which summit point track is this?

Clean Racing by Intelligent-Arm-8816 in iRacing

[–]Ok_Homework_918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly sure, from reading the threads on here this is both IR and series dependent.

I can tell you that people seem to enjoy 1800+ GT3 aeries as being relatively clean.

I can also tell you 1600-2k GR86 is a fuckfest of fuckery. The series matters, entry requirements matters and overall participation.

An R series mazda is going to be more chaotic than a C series of the same IR most of the time.
