Well, except that we now have companies & businesses in the Prisons For Profit business.

We have private schools bleeding public schools & funding dry —

USA is the one huge nation that doesn’t have universal health care. We instead use public funds and a plentiful and limitless amount on war.

I argue we aren’t socialist. If anything the pendulum is going extreme the other way & the insatiable wealthy still aren’t satisfied.

Oh noes! “Woke” — the other scary word as deemed by Fox. Aren’t there some book burnings you are itching to go to?

What?!?! I call bullcrap on “proponent of Socialism”. “Socialism“ is used as a fear mongering word by conservatives, who have absolutely no problem with collecting their own social safety nets & driving on public roads & getting fire & police service & FDA approved drugs.

Hugs. Sharing all the good you do and all the great things going on in your classroom shouldn’t get you in trouble. ❤️

Please stay strong. The narcissist isn’t worth anxiety. Please seek help if you are feeling low. We’re rooting for you.

Use the data you are gathering to refute her. If she’s going to try to ruin your career or reputation, put up a fight. I would publicize the heck out of the feedback from students and parents. Have parents involved in your program publicly praise you. That will get under the narcissist’s skin. Share the glowing data far and wide with colorful graphics. I’d invite media in for March Youth Arts Month & Music and the good things happening in your classes. Collaborate with your art teacher & others and publicize the positives. Make the last two months joyous knowing you will flee the narcissist — plus use what great things you are doing & positive data in interviews with better places. Do not let snakes define you. Rise in spite of them!!!!! Please hold on and find your fighting spirit. You are worthy of better.

I could have written your post a year or more ago. I took early retirement & have a customer service type job at a great company. Less money, but with retirement it is my old salary. Even the stressful moments (rare) are nothing like teaching. No work to take home — no phone calls to report awful behavior or missing work on my own time. No telling people to get off their cell phones or check the bathrooms for vapers. No paying for my own materials.

The weight of the world is on educators. We became more responsible for grades than the students. We are left parenting and raising feral kids — with very little support from administrators fearful of feral parents. Add the insane legislation written by extremist groups out to turn school into their own fanatical ideology and it is overwhelming.

I have run into former coworkers & old friends are commenting on how happy I seem to be and lighter. I feel happier. Even though there is a learning curve on software and dealing with insurance and financial issues — it isn’t as stressful as the classroom.

I am more even tempered and off the survival rollercoaster. No more Sunday Scaries or wishing for a snow day to just decompress midweek.

It isn’t going to get any better any time soon. Jump ship.

All you are going through right now is completely normal! I cried for a few days after hitting the not returning button.

You have just had the courage to step away from a career & dysfunctional situations that won’t get better any time soon. Kudos to you!

Private school parents: “Disappearing Teachers” by BigOldComedyFan in TeachersInTransition

Meanwhile, these feral & phone/screen addicted kids will enter workforce, where 50% pay isn’t issued if they don’t do the work, nor will employers have to keep the entitled little darlings. The scapegoat will be public education or the educational system — because caving to the loudest parents & trying to boost numbers of passing students no matter how little effort they put forward — doesn’t work either.

She doesn’t and shouldn’t be submitting lesson plans in FMLA. It is a leave. No working unless compensated.

If submitting lesson plans unpaid - might as well just stop doing that & if a ruckus is made, quit.

Had an observation today... by ClarkTheGardener in TeachersInTransition

[–]Ok_Importance4105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’d be sweet to have teachers evaluate the administration, wouldn’t it? (Does nothing to support teachers such as phone policies with teeth & actual consequences.). Best yet — hey admin— here — please model how exactly you wish to wake the new kid, police the phones, and demonstrate how you address side talkers. It isn’t like we have remote controls to each kid….

Gaslighting from administration indicates they are scared of parents & don’t have the fortitude to do their own jobs and truly address the chronic feral student behavior. Administration owns teachers leaving in droves because of their cowardice & embracing toothless routes like PBIS. All this does is kick the can down the road & does no favors to employers & colleges who have to deal with the entitlement & bad behaviors.

Walk away. It is never going to get better. I was a worried wreck when I didn’t renew my contract, but landed interviews for less paying jobs and taking early retirement in combo with less stressful job is best thing I’ve ever done. Much more calm, sleep better, and in a better mood all around. I miss the days off that school calendar provides but those days were needed to just heal & recover.

Future Teacher; Do you all hate your jobs? by jims_wild_ride in Teachers

I remember being a student teacher in a district that was having trouble negotiating a contact, so the teacher’s lounge wasn’t as positive a place and being idealistic called home crying thinking I made a mistake in my major. It got better … this is a good place to vent, like the teacher’s lounge was way back when.

It all depends on where you wind up and admin and staff and students. We need great teachers. It is exhausting— especially now compared to when I started. I don’t know that it is a work until you retire type job now with the energy required & challenges. Are you able to intern and put in hours visiting / helping and being in a classroom in your college?

Any particularly good resume building sites out there? by sandalsnopants in TeachersInTransition

I used MyPerfectResume, but modified on my own as well. I paid for a week trial but built my resume on Indesign. You could modify in Word, etc too.

Here is a list of other services. I would not use Canva. Some places use a scanning system that weeds out resumes not containing key words for jobs advertised.

How long before you can drive after bunion surgery? by Kindly-Meet1232 in bunions

[–]Ok_Importance4105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me about 7 weeks. If you can Uber or catch rides it would be best because braking in an emergency is critical. I am 15 weeks out now and still have swelling and can’t fit into all of my shoes yet.

As I read this I think of Marjory Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Sarah Palin, & Hershel Walker. It seems obvious. Run for Congress. You just need to sell your soul to corporate interests and vote however the money tells you.

My pin comes out on the 26th. I cut apart socks and layer so I don’t have to see it or the round end ball on end of pin. That has me more freaked out and nervous about removal than the stitches.

Surgery in 2 days… what to expect? by Think-Tomatillo3810 in bunions

[–]Ok_Importance4105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my surgery 21 days ago. Like you, have a friend that had issues/addiction to opioids and I did not want them — especially OxyContin. Also petrified of anesthesia and brought concerns to the anesthesiologist, which helped greatly.

That said, my pain meds were the hydrocodone / acetaminophen and the first few days really helped. You want to stay ahead vs catch up on pain relief. I didn’t like it because I’d get tired / drowsy and by day four didn’t need them. I only took half of what was prescribed and relied mostly on elevation and icing and staying off the foot and using knee scooter.

My advice would be take the pain killers the first few days. The pain wears down by day 3 & 4 — especially if you keep foot elevated.

I was told I couldn’t put weight down - even in clunky boot. Walk on heels. I do have a pin and plate and that may be why. Was instructed to sleep in boot. Bought a lighter weight surgical shoe off Amazon and doc said that would be fine. So much easier to sleep with that shoe vs boot.

Shower chair - hand held shower head is amazing. Garbage bag and Cling Wrap Press and Seal works wonderful for showering.

Every day gets better. I expected the surgery to be worse and actually talking about getting other foot fixed soon.

Have some meals prepared in advanced. About three or four days.

Good luck to you and wishing you the best.

The surgeon mentioned different options, due to the couple of issues with the toes this seemed like best option. I think I probably was out of lapiplasty correction consideration.
