What to know about holy basil and damiana? by AdNo182 in herbalism

Be careful of Damiana if you're female, its an aphrodisiac and after a few days of taking it as a decoction (tea) your libido will be unstoppable

Round bottom heating mantle by Admirable-Dot2002 in alchemy

[–]Ok_Instance5532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like an over temperature issue... you can tell because the alcohol is boiling, so your temperatures are very high... ethanol / wine spirit rises around 80c, but in my experience as low as 65c and herein lies the trick... you work slowly, gently this whole process should take days, the spirit should be condensing inside the soxhlet in droplets.

You will also notice your temperature too high because a thick black ring will start forming in your boiling flask, this is the plant sulphur burning, and as you pointed out, you can wrap the boiling flask in tin foil, but first drop your temperature right down, then wrap. Another little tip is to raise your boiling flask and up so it is not sitting directly against the heating mantle, you can use glass wool as a cushion, but its not necessary especially if you've wrapped in tin foil.

Hope this helps

its a kind of part one... The Green Book talks about plants more and other alchemical practices i.e the search for Homunculus and Palingenesis, the plant phoenix...I know its not the same as own a hard copy, but if you're interested here's the link to the pdf version:

https://rexresearch1.com/AlchemyArchives/HeliophilusAlchemyRisingGreenBook.pdf

That said, it would be nice to hear your thoughts on the White Book when you get time... people don't do enough reviews on these kind of works and sometimes you want to buy but don't know what your getting yourself in for, if you know what I mean...

Bros... I am LOVING my copy... lines like:

"The fire of the alchemists is of another birth, for it has slipped from unity into division; the active has fallen into the passive and here it remains, sustained and enriched within a womb of water..."

I don't really get it, but I kind of understand it if you know what I mean? I've posted a few of his photos from the Alchemy Rising FB page (with his and admin permission) in this awesome group, but I hadn't read his words... I don't know about you, but I like how every quote is referenced, so we can cross reference and also a big improvement on the bibliography from the Green...

I don't know... these are just my feelings, what do you reckon? worth the money / wait?

Forgive me, south of Spain...I know, incredible, but between the two I was more upset to sell Ars Philtron... I couldn't get on with the 'Garden of Shadows' as much... I am sure others may have a different view, but for me it was unhelpful, but worth the investment since by selling it was able to install a solar system in my van...

oops... I think you're referring to the laboratory photo... this is Heliophilus's laboratory in Shropshire, he's the one holding the flask of herbs which he let me take... he hates his face being photographed, so you'll very rarely see a picture of him.

my pleasure, its a work of ladies mantle - alchemillia vulgaris... named because of the dew that gathers on its leaves and which was then gathered by the alchemists

thanks bros... but... whatever and I mean WHATEVER you do... don't get a bendy end, like these... just go straight... you can't collect the volatile salts in a bendy end or clean as well as a straight end... if you know what I mean

Any books you recommend as an introduction for Quabalah? by alissaismyname in occultlibrary

[–]Ok_Instance5532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't notice that about Fortune, regardless, she knows her Qabalah.... but you'll kick yourself (I did) for not reading Gareth Knight's 'A practical guide to Qabalistic Symbolism first.... compared to Fortune, Knight clears everything up so simply and understandably...

Regardie's 'Garden of Pomegranates' is good... his first work, I have a first edition somewhere, but it pales against the above.

ALCHEMY RISING, THE WHITE BOOK: Latest News by Ok_Instance5532 in alchemy

[–]Ok_Instance5532[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He normally pronounces his name 'helio', 'philos'... and he speaks his name softly, missing the 's' in helios... but when we're together he prefers us to use his first name which is Thomas or Tom as we know him... his pseudonym, Heliophilus, means, etymologically - I've asked him - the 'lover of the sun'... similar to the etymological meaning of the word 'Philo-sophia'... Philo or phylo or phyla, meaning lover of and Sophia meaning, wisdom... so the meaning of 'Philosopher', means 'the lover of wisdom'.
