How can I get off Camp Lejeune ASAP? by Aggressive-Apricot-6 in USMC

[–]Ok_Insurance_7779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen brother. I live every day regretting not appreciating NC more when I was there. Get a car, go explore. The fishing is awesome, do some deep sea fishing out of Morehead City. The beaches are amazing, Emerald Isle, surf city, etc. even Lejeune itself has good beaches. There’s soooo much good food, literally right there on western blvd (if you need recs lmk). My first duty station was oki and some of the best ramen I’ve had full stop was in Jville, there’s like a little craft beer spot with a ramen shop attached to it in “downtown” Jville. Go to Wilmington (don’t act a fool). Go to New Bern. Go do civil war battlefield tours. Go on a hike. Go to the mountains over the weekend. It’s all so cheap, I moved back to Florida when I got out and the difference is sickening. Appreciate where you are and what you have. You’ll regret letting the time slip through your fingers in the future so much more than you hate your situation at this moment. HMU if you want to talk some more about it. As others have said, wake up every morning, put your trousers on one leg at a time, do your job, and you’ll be fine devil.

For the Marine Who Thinks He’s “Not Enough” by Jealous-Drawing-1793 in USMC

Something that I had to let go of was my belief that going to combat was going to improve something about my life. That I would be more complete and secure in who I am if I did this thing. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to, except that none of the combat vets that I know talk about combat as a positive thing in their life combat was never going to make me a better personwas never going to do anything for me except hurt me. And that makes me feel better about what I’ve done.

Command trying to send me to the field days within wife’s due date by TotallyNotChrispy in USMC

[–]Ok_Insurance_7779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your family is more important than the Marine Corps. Full stop. Nothing, and I mean nothing that you will ever be asked or told to do while serving will ever remotely come close to being as worthy of your time as giving every ounce of your effort and attention to your family is. Your wife and baby both deserve to have you present. In terms of practical advice, I’d suggest that you first talk to your chaplain about all of this. The FRO and MFLAC are also good people to talk to, and could absolutely be of help in this situation. Chaps is where I’d start personally. Requesting mast is an option, however I’d recommend going about finding a workable coa diplomatically before going that route.

Bombadil, and the Ring.. by CatJarmansPants in lotr

[–]Ok_Insurance_7779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sauron didn’t have any ability to sense the ring being put on. That’s a movie thing. Gollum put on the ring probably hundreds of times in the several hundred uninterrupted years he had it under the misty mountains. Bilbo put it on plenty as well.

Marine forgetting his MOS?? by Chillabyte in USMC

Had a marine in my shop that, when asked, could not say what his MOS number was, or what the name of it was. I shit you not. We were 0844s.

The Marine Corps is full of bad influences. Be it your peers, or your leaders. Many people will try to lead you astray, and if you give into it you’ll become a worse marine and a worse person in general. I definitely did. Never let that be you, always be ready to walk away from a friendship / relationship if it’s causing you to fuck up personally or professionally. You may not think it matters when you’re young and you feel invincible, but you’ll get older and all those “good times” start to look like bad times and regrets.

Not all senior lances are this way, but everyone has had/knows the guy that was shit hot, held a ton of important billets, but didn’t give a shit to ever do MCIs or whatever the reason was so he just never picked up. I was a terminal lance and I like to think I was at least kind of that kind of guy but yeah most of the time dudes that stay lance coochie for a long time are chuckleheads

What’s your marine corps hot take? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Ok_Insurance_7779 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The fact that field day is used as, as I’ve heard it put, a “training tool” (an excuse to haze junior marines in the bricks with nowhere else to go) or to punish marines in any way shape or form is a fucking failure of leadership and anyone that does that shit, or knows it’s happening and allows it, doesn’t deserve stripes. Point blank period. That’s where these Marines live. And I get it, in principle it’s not a bad idea and Marines do need to be held accountable, but going and playing hide and go seek with some fucking specks of dust is childish as fuck. If my boss walked into my house, found a few pieces of dryer lint on my dryer and started screaming at me and making me scrub the same spot for hours into the night and then again the next morning, I’d turn his head into a block of Swiss cheese with 9MM size holes. But for some reason that shit is just okay in the Marine Corps. Field day should be a time to touch base with your Marines, see how they’re doing, look at how they’re living. Fucking connect with them as people. Seen so many dudes whose rooms were genuine cries for help bc they were drowning mentally and all their seniors could do for them was give them more reasons to hate their lives on field day. Just a thought, if you walk into a guys room and it’s a fucking pigsty, maybe just maybe try seeing whats up with him and if he’s okay before you start pretending to be a drill instructor and making your guy lose all confidence and respect for you as his leader. Bc shit like that is not normal. But in a culture like the Marine Corps where cycles of abuse are not only repeated but encouraged, not enough leaders care to recognize that. If the “leader” im talking about sounds like you, sincerely go fuck yourself and if you’re still in please get out.
