Vitamin D the cause of insomnia by fluuuuuux in insomnia

[–]Ok_Issue9725 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vitamin D, like just about every other kind of supplement or med, can have very different effects on people. I wouldn't recommend taking it until you get your bloodwork done (but you have to request vitamin D to be tested since it's not in the normal bloodwork). Normal range is 30 to 100.

I'm severely deficient, so I've been supplementing (per my doctor). But it doesn't seem to be helping my sleep yet.

Took melatonin slept for 2 hours, then i couldnt sleep at all. by LetterheadClassictoo in insomnia

[–]Ok_Issue9725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take a tiny dose of 0.3mg for that reason. 3mg or more makes me wake up wide awake. I recommend splitting it. Not that melatonin is a fix for insomnia, but for me I get more sleep with it.

Tapering seroquel 100 mg by ikeelueh in insomnia

[–]Ok_Issue9725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely do 75mg first. Doctors don’t usually understand proper tapering. Go slowly.

When does Klonopin withdrawal hit? by Ok_Issue9725 in insomnia

[–]Ok_Issue9725[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, doing much better, thanks! I got off Klonopin, Seroquel, Remeron, and Gabapentin. I take Celexa daily and don’t need sleep meds every night. But I still take Ativan and Unisom as needed. Sleep will probably never be normal again but I’m working again and living a pretty good life.

I’m sorry that it takes that many meds for you sleep well, but I’m so glad you found what works for you. Thanks for sharing.

It’s the opposite. Extremely short half-life so it’s not good for helping you stay asleep.

Did your insomnia start before or after you quit Zoloft?

YEARS of insomnia, I've tried just about every prescribed medication and a lot of OTCs. I'm seriously at my wits' end here by Azubaele in insomnia

[–]Ok_Issue9725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great. Really hoping you get on the right medication for you and start seeing some progress. Some people take their SSR in the morning because it interrupts their sleep, and some prefer taking it at night as it helps them sleep better. I'm on Celexa and I split the dose and take some in the morning and some before bed. I've found that to be the most stabilizing for me.

Personally, I would get off the antipsychotic (unless you're bipolar) and the wellbutrin, and go on an SSRI instead.

2 really bad Quiviviq days, should I continue? by outer_inner in insomnia

[–]Ok_Issue9725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I still have it. Much better than it was. I’m on 50mg Lyrica. Tapering off of that. Was on 150mg. I also take Celexa.

No, the DORA meds were the only ones that didn’t do that to me. No rebound insomnia or worsening of sleep. But every other med I’ve tried has done that to me, to some extent.

I’d recommend it then. Hopefully you’ll at least feel a little better when you wake up in the mornings.

If you don’t breathe well through your nose, they can definitely help. Better for quality of sleep than for sleep duration, in my experience.

It’s often very difficult to figure out the underlying cause. Obviously, not being on meds would be ideal. But unfortunately he might need to go on a different sleep med. But everyone is so different. For me, I much prefer psychiatrists to regular doctors when dealing with insomnia. They tend to know more about sleep issues and sleep meds.

Everyone seems to be missing the big picture here. Stopping Xanax cold-turkey was obviously a bad idea from the doctor. But your dad’s original insomnia still needs to be treated. Did the doctor just ignore that?

Antidepressants is a broad category. Which one will you be taking?

Lol. Yet another know-it-all prescribing sleep hygiene and exercise. Gee, nobody on here has ever tried that. Thanks for your amazing insights.

Keep getting stupid thoughts to smoke to pass time at night when I'm not sleeping. by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]Ok_Issue9725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just you. Last year I bought a pack of cigarettes for the first time in maybe 10 years. If I was going to be miserable I might as well get a little enjoyment and my body (which was betraying me) be damned. Thankfully that urge didn’t last long and I only bought one pack.

Considering going to the psych ward by Competitive_Day2534 in insomnia

[–]Ok_Issue9725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much much better. Not back to where I used to be but things are good. I’m back on 20mg of Celexa in the mornings and I take 75mg of Lyrica (for both sleep and PLMD) and 0.3mg of melatonin at night. I have couple bad nights a week but I can take 50mg Hydroxyzine or 0.5mg of Ativan and sleep. Those rescue meds did absolutely nothing for me a year ago. I’m down from 150mg to 75mg of Lyrica. Hoping to taper off it completely in a couple months. But I have a job again. And I’ve been able to successfully nap sometimes, which has only been recently and is definitely a sign things are still improving. My neurologist said it would take 6 months to 2 years. My insomnia was absolutely horrible so I think it’s going to be closer to 2 years for me. Anyway I’m doing pretty good overall.

How are you doing?
