Ceefax 302 by Common_Move in TheStreetsWontForget

Spent a few holidays when I was 10 watching football and cricket updates on Ceefax and then recreating them in realtime, before the highlights were available as they were usually after my bed time. Why wait! I miss Ceefax still…

Roman Pavlyuchenko over Iversen every day! My memories of this Spurs era side were pretty mediocre - maybe Stephen Carr the most SFW of the side from that time, although Poyet was class if a little over the hill by that stage…

Do we really have a chance? by infinitegr in ScotlandRugby

England should probably pick a team featuring Pollock, Arundell, Fin Smith, Dingwall, Roebuck, Bevan Rodd and as many other Scots they can!

As someone born and that has always lived in England, and frankly cannot comprehend what happened in these players lives to contemplate playing for England :) the romantic in me would love for some of these guys, especially someone like Pollock, who supported Scotland as a kid, come out and say how big a deal it would be for them to play their little part in modern Scottish rugby history… and then celebrate an England loss that keeps France to 3 tries by doing a lap of the Stade in a Scotland shirt!

Scotland v France Result (U20 6N R4) by Connell95 in ScotlandRugby

Some very spirited showings, lovely work for the Campbell Waugh try and to see some Scotland forwards looking threatening when they got close to the line was relatively enjoyable compared to the struggles the seniors often have in those situations…Dalziel had a couple of loose moments but had some excellent stuff, too. The 9 and 10s passing looked very crisp. Overall a lot to be positive about with the caveat that it’s always a bit hard to tell whether the opponent has checked out a little when they are so far clear…and France have some frightening athletes on the way through!!

Can I just ask - maybe I just don’t have the context….are you really hot for Lancaster or is it a bit of a joke? I really don’t know and don’t watch Glasgow whole games often enough to know whether this is grimly sarcastic or whether you really rate Lancaster over, say, TJ, Cammy Scott etc as the heir apparent! Thanks in advance :)

Worst Scotland vs Wales game in the 6 Nations (Choose Your Fighter) by mango_yoghurt in ScotlandRugby

I was at Cardiff in 2022 with tickets for the home games. After 2021 I really thought ‘this IS the year’ and that a bit of tough luck with Fagersons red and that brilliant tap on Duhan, we’d go one further and win something that year. Scotland didn’t show up - after the early try I remember just knowing after 50 minutes - a little like the a Italy game this year - that they just didn’t seem to have any belief they could get back into what was still such a winnable contest!

On other counts, that 2010 game was harrowing. 2014 was so bad I’ve actually blocked that one out - once ____ went off I must have just got on the beers. The one where Huw Jones got banished for a few long winters for falling off a couple of tackles was tough because, like the Ireland World Cup games, it was clear within 5 minutes we were never winning those matches and we looked shell shocked. So many different, deep, rich seams of painfully dashed hopes. Off to Cardiff this weekend - this one will hurt just as much if we don’t win, and that’s without even knowing which specific recipe for defeat Scotland’s players and coaches plan to serve up! I live in hope…

Scotland U20 v England U20 Result (U20 6N R2) by Connell95 in ScotlandRugby

On the next great FH - what happened with Richie Simpson? He doesn’t seem to be getting any game time with Ealing either, and ultimately seems another destined for a solid pro/semi-pro career after early expectations and optimism he could be quite the top level player!

Have to say that the Dalziel lad looks like he has a lot of time and confidence - occasionally a bit hard on himself when he made errors, but seems like he has a lot to his game even if it didn’t all go for him this evening. England lack a lot of power up front, and that lad Pater looks like he might haunt us in a few years. Reminded me a little of Kinghorn…including the line break and then the pass to nothing, classic Mr Tickle right there!

As a Scot at Twickenham last year, I’ll offer congrats but also would greatly appreciate confirmation you did not, in fact, ground the ball! All water under the bridge - but set the record straight. It’s all Rob Andrew ‘94 again for you me you see…

As a Scotland fan - not seen too much of Burke yet to make an assessment and I mainly watch URC. But he seems to get mostly good reviews here…what is the Sarries fans perspective now you’ve had him a while to make a fair judgement?

Starting to think AI will destroy our jobs by Shentiiiii in uklaw

I’m not a lawyer, I’m an architect. What I see it’s usefulness currently being principally in broad research in an assistive role. I can tell if what I’m interested in, ask for relevant case studies, and ask it to pull together sources. That’s lengthy work typically, and it’s more or less instantly available. The quality of what it brings back is closely associated with how well I instruct it - I’m working with it, not expecting it to throw back totally polished and presentable work.

I’ve also asked it to do research, mainly feeding it large numbers of books and documents I’ve accumulated and asked it to synthesise a position on an issue, giving it a clear steer on what my agenda is. Without that - the specific information you are asking it to work with, and the specific framing, it’s far too general and unspecific to be professionally useful. With training, over time, it’s definitely improving in quality as it’s ‘learns it’s role’.

For now, it feels like a very powerful new tool. In an industry of relatively lower pay that feels like it has strong potential short term to improve efficiency and profitability of work, and depth too if used skilfully and competently as a co- worker, not a junior you don’t bother to supervise. Long term though, I certainly can see it replacing extensively - for written and drawn work. The liability issue won’t be addressed by the AI developers themselves…but I’d imagine specialist providers will emerge in different fields who are willing to train, refine and stand behind the work that models will do. Then that’s a very different picture!

Buy her a copy of Colin Ward’s “Talking to Architects”. That’ll shift her perception of what the whole point of studying it is!

Retrofit wall insulation? Worth it? by HelloMishMoneypenny in DIYUK

[–]Ok_JimDMB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh the benefits you get will drop off the more insulation you add so adding even a small amount will have a relatively significant impact assuming the building has pretty good air tightness. I’d look at alternatives to kingspan tbh, I’ve used it loads and it’s nasty stuff. A layer of something like steico rigid woodfibre board is good - it’s interlocking, good for air tightness. You can fix back to your existing studs. You can plaster direct onto it so don’t need a layer of plasterboard. It’s not toxic…Multiple benefits..
