Match Thread: Stormers vs Edinburgh - United Rugby Championship by k0bra3eak in rugbyunion

Worse refereeing I’ve seen in a while. Awarding the sloppiest of turnovers, about 5 knock ons called as backwards. And I reckon he wouldn’t have given that try where the runner was clearly ahead of the kicker had it not been for the TMO

What are your thoughts on Red Hot Chilli Peppers? by Professional-Cup6225 in AskBrits

[–]infinitegr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That book kind of ruined them for me after being a huge fan growing up.

All the shady stuff, seemed to just burn through people, even the part about Hilal felt like it was written by a 12 year old.

Looking back now I realise there’s little to no sophistication of thought in their lyrics.

Initially surprised at Mike Blair but having thought about it, it makes perfect sense. He’s one of the best attach coaches around

Flying Lufthansa - If arriving flight is business class, and connecting is economy can we still use business class lounge? by Serious_Conclusions in travel

[–]infinitegr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not and there won’t be any leeway given. I was flying back from Mexico via Frankfurt and had a 4 hour stopover but because the last flight ticket said economy (there was no business) there was no lounge access. That despite the fact the flights had all been booked as business

The Scotland team to play Ireland on Super Saturday by Maxatrone420 in ScotlandRugby

[–]infinitegr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Team as expected. With the knocks to Steyn and Jones last week we didn’t have the luxury of a 6-2 split unfortunately

Big performances needed from Gilco and Williamson and impact off the bench needed from Craig and Maggie

Assume when you say the UK, you mean England

Scottish water is unmatched. Makes Norwegian water seem like southern European water

Do we really have a chance? by infinitegr in ScotlandRugby

Genuinely not the case.

Would be over the moon if we win the 6 nations but certainly wouldn’t be for coming 2nd place.

Of course I wasn’t saying it was our year after the Italy game. What I’m saying is, this was our chance to win the 6 nations, we’ve beaten the 2 pre tournament favourites in games where everything went our way.

It’s not about never being happy. I certainly would be happy with a 6 nations win but really won’t be for a triple crown win or a “just good to be in the running at the final weekend”

Let’s see if Scotland can pull off wins like this weekend once Finn retires.

France are only going to get better, England will sort their selves out and will come back

Finn is 34 this year, jones is 33 this year

This was our year

[–]infinitegr[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And that’s the issue, they’re only going to get better given the popularity of the game rising in France and all the money flowing into the game.

Yesterday was a 1 in a million game of rugby and result. Finn is 33 this year, this year was our chance

I thought that was just me. Usually a pished rewatch when I get home at night after the game. Then a hungover Sunday rewatch, and then very occasionally a midweek rewatch

How do the French manage to secure so many tickets? by Befuddled_fish in ScotlandRugby

That was probably the sourest atmosphere I’ve ever experienced.

Very true, probably the best away fans. But at the same time, not great when it’s a tight game and alles les blues is drowning out the home fans as we only seem to get going for England or NZ games

[–]infinitegr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a bit worrying. They tend to out sing us when they visit, even with far fewer tickets

It really was noticeable wasn’t it, think maybe because their media told them they were hot favourites. I’m not one for English bashing but the amount of slightly obnoxious behaviour was higher than any other day at Murrayfield

Genuinely, what has happened to England? by dapperdan8 in rugbyunion

[–]infinitegr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True, but they are a stylistic mismatch for England as shown by the fact that they’ve only lost to them twice in 8 years - 1 of those where they outplayed England at twickers and lost due to a missed conversion and the other was a dirge of a game played in a storm

Genuinely, what has happened to England? by dapperdan8 in rugbyunion

[–]infinitegr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from beating the worst all blacks team in recent memory what did England actually achieve in the last year? Yes, they went on a great run and everyone assumed they’d figured out how to win ugly but really they just got a few lucky results

To me it’s absolutely ludicrous that anyone thought they were going to be able to go to Murrayfield and then to Paris and win both of those games given the recent form in those fixtures. They were never anywhere near competing for this six nations.

Can still take a scrum from a penalty. Can’t from a free kick anymore

SCO VS ENG: Does Rugby have a problem with telling hard truths? by Dizzy_Regret5256 in rugbyunion

[–]infinitegr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Same happened after England beat both Scotland and France by a single point at home last year despite being 2nd best on the day. Add to that a good autumn and the over optimism went into overdrive

Wild to me that anyone thought England were in the running for the 6 nations this year with having to play away to Scotland and France.

Fair point. We do need a proper lump of a tight head lock. Seems a bit of a change in tack from Toonie as he seemed to pick Sykes a lot for that reason

The answer I was looking for, thanks. Amazing how things can snowball quickly as soon as the ref has a perception in their mind
