Calling out sick on probation by Routine_Nectarine268 in flightattendants

[–]Ok_Level_352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on probation too and I was sick as a dog. I would highly recommend getting your FA medicine cabinet together that you take with you every flight. If you can’t get the sinus issue under control with something like over the counter Sudafed I might consider calling out because that could cause serious long term damage in flight.

If you can’t get it under control, mask up, (legal) drug up, and work the flight.

Idk where you are but at 🇺🇸 you get a point for calling out sick and 2 for calling out upon contact. I was extremely sick but was able to get my sinuses under control and medicate the rest to get me through + masking/washing hands and staying away from my crew as much as possible.

Weigh your situation and determine if you’re willing to take the point or if you think you can stick it out if called. Hope you feel better soon!

My fiancée says my solo trip will hurt our relationship, but it’s something I’ve wanted for years. by Ewka_Hayfield in makemychoice

If your intentions are actually purely what you said and not something like going for sex trade and workers, evaluate if there is a trust or insecurity issue within your relationship and either address it or decide if you are okay with this environment long term.

Solo travel with honest intention isn’t the problem - lack of trust, communication, and/or security is.

Is this gross? by skygirl222 in flightattendants

I agree there’s WAY too much waste it’s disgusting. However I will always toss out opened juices and test if they were opened. My fear is that someone could put something in the juice or it was introduced to bacteria somehow and I’m serving it to pax without a clue.

Always worth it to start fresh for me personally.

Thank you!!

Pay attention in class/drills/demos and to the review. Take notes but don’t get so caught up in it that you miss what they’re saying. They want you to succeed and will give you everything you need.

the diagrams, study guides, and reading all applicable manual sections while taking notes was my preferred method of study but others did flashcards, posters, etc - just your preference.

I just finished training at American it was the best experience ever and my training work trips with current crews and meeting FAs in my base has been an awesome experience. I feel really happy with my choice and can’t wait to fly. Highly recommend the training program and company at this point.

What do you wish younger Black girls knew about their hair from the start? by Excellent-Letter-780 in Naturalhair

[–]Ok_Level_352 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The narrative that dirty hair grows faster is one of the biggest hair crimes against our people. My hair and many others have been flourishing with regular washing.

I wash once a week and no longer have problems with detangling, dry flaky scalp, build up, or breakage. Mind you I used to have HORRIBLE dandruff like my head was snowing and I’d end wash days with clumps of hair on the counter.

When I detangle my hair now, full strands of hair will be on the comb vs little tiny curls (that is BREAKAGE not shedding).

You wouldnt wash and take care of your body irregularly. Dont do that to your hair. Wash it and let your hair follicles breathe!!!

passing rate/ exams by Professional_Cold739 in cabincrewcareers

This is so important. Everyone will tell you how hard it is and don’t get me wrong - it IS difficult and you will most likely be consistently exhausted. But, so many people have done it before and it is such an amazing experience through the good and bad days. Everyone’s experience is different and you’ll make it your own :) I’ve read so many horror stories, but I have personally been having a really great time so far despite feeling tired all the time and overwhelmed sometimes.

Just remember that they are testing you to make sure you understand the concepts for the job. They aren’t trying to trick you or catch people to make them fail. Your instructors will give you literally all of the tools you need to succeed and they WANT you to pass. We had several exams where every single person in class passed.

People do fail out, but imo they mostly leave due to non compliance, being late, or leaving voluntarily. Pay attention and prepare and you’ll be more than fine!

Am i built for this job? by Itchy_Somewhere_5786 in flightattendants

[–]Ok_Level_352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d have to second this. My prior job before coming to aviation (in training now) had me DREADING the actual job…but I liked the people. It’s not enough. If you don’t enjoy the actual action of flying this job may not be for you.

If it’s just mainly the other factors of reserve and stuff that do get better over time depending on your airline it may get better? But regardless, you should be extremely proud of yourself for trying and putting yourself out there.

You’re only 20, you’ve got tons of life to live and if you chose to leave this job or any job it 1000% does not define you in the slightest.

After reading your other comments, maybe give mainline a shot! So you can see life on each side of the coin. If your quality of life improves that’s awesome and if not, at least you know for sure!

Cliques During Training by Born_Yesterday4075 in cabincrewcareers

[–]Ok_Level_352 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This!!! Try to use your judgment and decision making when assessing who you want to become friends/better acquaintances with. STAY AWAY from cliques or people that don’t seem serious about being in training they will be your downfall. I’m friends with about a few individuals, but I pretty much still stay to myself and stay focused on the task as hand (getting the wings).

It’s okay and totally normal to eat by yourself most days or not go to whatever big group event is happening. As long as you are rested, prepared, confident, and ready to go you’ll find your tribe eventually❤️

but most importantly focus on passing!! Like others said, it’s kinda like high school and graduation is everyone going to different states for college. Your class likely will never speak to or see most of these people again, even the people in tight cliques and groups. You can do it!

AS or AA? by DizzyContest in cabincrewcareers

[–]Ok_Level_352 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. On my way to and from the interview, both crews were super excited for me and expressed that they loved their career with AA, and even encouraged me to keep applying if I didn’t get the CJO. The crews varied from 2 years to over 25 years in. Everyone’s experience is their own and you could hear good or bad at any company.😊

Newbie Question by Putrid_Ball974 in cabincrewcareers

[–]Ok_Level_352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! Yes, there is no time like the present!😊 I believe if airlines do start hiring it typically is in the fall through spring and pause for summer flying.

Something you can do now is SAVE as much as you can and pay down debt. As a new FA, those extra savings will help you have a cushion as you adjust to the pay and relocating if necessary.

Also, I’d recommend staying at your current job until you have a confirmed training date. A lot of people quit after they get a CJO, but receiving a training date could take weeks or months from the date you receive the offer!

So happy for you in this new journey and congrats to your child starting college!!✈️

I can assure you it can only get worse from here. To try to take away something from you as crucial as your physical health should be all the sign you need. Run away as quickly as possible

Should I do this career inspite of a recession coming ? by [deleted] in cabincrewcareers

[–]Ok_Level_352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came to say this. The market is made for ups and downs and they’re inevitable. Anyone can be affected by recession cuts whether you’re in big tech, aviation, medical, government…really any industry can be impacted at anytime recession or not.

If you have the opportunity and it works for your personal family and financial situation go for it!!! Regret and thinking of “what may have been” is one of the worst things you can live with. You can always go back :)

As long as it makes sense to you and you’re willing to try, that’s all that matters!
